I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2. If NCSoft pulls off what I think they will with a totally free of extra charges game, it may change the entire market for ever. I also think that they will revamp everything that GW 1 did wrong, and make it better. So as you can see I'm excited about this game also.
HOWEVER :
Guild Wars 2 had been announced well over a year ago, and to this day a release date seems not even close. Don't you see that it's a marketing trick to build hype....Nothing more !.......It's no more than GM announcing that they are building personal space ships. After all it would only take GM to build a simple Flux Capacitor that does not work to solve the legal issues involved with early advertisement.
Video game trailers are silly.......They have close to nothing to do with the actual game play. Remember Warhammer ?...They had one of the best Game trailers of any MMO. Yet, look what game play turned out to be. I've witnesses others here on mmorpg.com think that Video game trailers, and cartoon oil paintings depict the actual graphics of what a game will be like.
Some even go as far to say " I'm glad they are not releasing an mmo yet, it will insure a more full, bug free game ". I don't understand this logic either. You have no clue at what the stage of development a game is in. It could be three years, and not even have NPC's in yet !
I need a new mmo bad, just like you. And to each their own, everyone is different, but I personally find it ridiculous to spend as much time as others, studying something that is so far off. I pop my head into the GW2 fourms about once a week only to find " nothing yet ". But post after post of excitement.

Maybe its late and I'm tired but your point seemed to be "Don't speculate on a game because it's not released yet".

ArenaNet have done a wonderful job of providing information for prospective buyers [blogs]. They seem to have taken unremitting lengths to add improvement and innovation across many features you care to name and dare to price it B2P! It's a great scoop anyway you look at it... and most ppl can patter out in answer to when will it be released: "When it's ready!" as some sort of mind worm meme. They're too good?

you are on the wrong mmo community portal m8, if you dont wanna read whats happening here in the forums stick to the news section, dont read the comments, or just go subscribe a gaming paper. this portal is all about hyping and speculating, trolling and all the other ups and downs. i think you missed sth and went the wrong direction in choosing your source of information. *doh*

If I didn't come to this website, I wouldn't even know Guildwars 2 is in development.
You need to do a reality check, please. There is hardly any marketing push at all, outside of the game conferences. They are just blogging as usual, and players are eating and it up and hyping it all on their own.
Get a grip, and let go of the baby mama drama.
This is pretty much my opinion on any game that doesn't even have an open beta. People hyper analyse everything to the point they convinced themselves they have some knowledge of the game that is actually relevant.
No one knows what the games are like till you play it, see some gameplay videos, or find some reviews that you trust.
But... people like to speculate. So let them speculate and have fun debating the reality of what it will turn out to be. All in good fun.

1) ArenaNet, not NCSoft. NCSoft is the publisher of the game, ArenaNet is the developer.
2) No offense, but do you just not do your research before posting on a game? It was announced over 3 years ago, and it was in development along side GW:EN. So if everything is going good, release should be next year or 2012.
3) Look at game play videos, not the trailers. Obviously your ultimate decision will be made once you play it, but game play videos will give you an idea.
4) Isn't the point of this site to speculate on upcoming MMOs while discussing existing MMOs?
5)........ um.... Why are you using forums as your main source of information? Go directly to the source, www.arena.net/blog or www.guildwars2.com. The developers also post over at www.guildwars2guru.com.

I guess the reason why so many people are hyped is because a few thousand people have played GW2 at NYCC, SDCC, PAX, Paris Games Week, and these people have given it mostly good reviews. The fact that the game was playable even if not completely ready is a turn-on to many which just close-to solidifies the promises that Arenanet has made. You can't say people shouldn't be hyped about something that feels so right and you shouldn't complain about people being hyped either because its what they do.
This is not a game.

You're telling people predicting a release in 2011/2012 that they are way off, but offer no proof or rational argument to support that. Can you see where you went wrong with your topic?

Yep GW2 has been in development since 2007, so around last quarter of 2011 early 2012 we will see it.
I get the point the OP is trying to make, cause personally i'm sick of hearing about this game also. People act like this game is already in open beta with some of the theorycrafting i've read about this game. How its going to be gods gift to gamers.

I agree with the original poster. Since I have played online games from when I I beta tested the very first one, I have been losing any intresst in prerelease video or info. How many let downs does it take to create skepticism ? I still pop on here with the faintest hope that maybe a good online game might someday be invented.

From what I saw and played at PAX this year, somewhere between Q4 2011 and Q1-2 2012 isn't that hard to fathom, though I'm still expecting late 2012 or even 2013, but that's because I'm a black-hearted cynic.

Everyone is speculating, studying the game and having over 9000 posts on the gw2 forums and yet he might not like the game. It's just bored people.

And let me remind you that there's more to the hype than some interesting announcements and a few sweet trailers. There was a very polished playable demo shown (and played) at a couple of recent shows. And that demo, although missing a number of features, looked well beyond any alpha phase, cobbled together, skeleton of a game play demo.
It may still be a year and a half off or just a couple of months, but it's none of your business if people want to talk about it and speculate. If you've got a problem with that, maybe you should rethink your rationale for participating in game forum in the first place.
