Oh yea and nobody really mentioned, while yea WAR ahd instances, it had some really large battles too. im not sure on the size but definatly some over 200. and yea...Planetsides battles of...was it 133? i thought it was 180 vs 180 vs 180 at one point? and wya, it can easily be done abd I dont know why its not more often, these people are apparently making an MMO afterall....theres plently of FTP games that cater towards arena style matches that im hella sure will do it better than anything with an EA logo attached to it.
"I’m hopeful that Bioware will put together a number of Warzones of different scale and scope, ranging from the smaller eight vs. eight, to hopefully some truly epic fights involving 16 or more players on each side."
Truly Epic Fights involving 16 or more players.... yeah.... 16vs16 was truly epic back.... mhhh i dont know if it ever was truly epic.....
Lets look around a bit BF2 => 64 Players... ok for a shooter... look at tribes 128 players? dont know exaclty... but fights were big. Mount&Blade ... up to 200 players... yeah it feels a little bit epic.... but being an MMOG and everything you deliver is maybe 20vs20 or 30vs30.... shame on you.
Anything under 50vs50 for the biggest battles should be laughable for a MMO.

Battlegrounds are a way of structured PvP, they shouldn't ever be about 100 vs 100 or such imo.
With those numbers, everything invariably turns into a zerg, which can be very fun but is the very opposite of 'structured'.
Keep the big battles in open PvP and even then, out of the more structured open PvP (such as RvR if that ever makes it in) and for special, rare events.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
well, i will skip this part of SWTOR for sure. i like open pvp in persistent zones. you call 16 vs 16 an epic-fight? epic-fights are starting somewhere at 500 vs 500 from my point of view.
i remember that they said once, that there will be open-pvp in persistent zones as well. did they cancel this feature, or am i wrong?
What game is out there that has 500 vs. 500? The most I've ever seen is 30 vs. 30, and that happened twice. I'm hoping they will still have open world pvp, but you're expectations are unrealistic if you expect to see more than 60-100 people total in any fight.
The real kicker is people like him expect these gigantic battles to run on their piece of shit Celerons and GeForce 3 TIs.
Unrealistic expectations indeed.
Not really.
Planetside had 133 vs 133 vs 133 (and even more before) player battles and that is a first person shooter.
Which can run easily on a 5 year old PC.
If a FPS can have 400 player battles which require actual aiming and such why shouldn't a RPG be able to do the same.
PS looked terrible graphically. Both the world and the character models.
So does SW:TOR, what's your point?
Actually it doesn't. It looks great graphically, the world is eons above what PS has to offer. Some of the character models could use work, but thats due to art style, not graphics specifically. You see no jagged polygons or poorly seamed worlds. Everything actually looks great.
PvP rooms with lightsaber or World of Old Republic?

*throws up on SWTOR*
I've got some good lobby mmos out there, why bother with SWTOR? Getting limited number of people in a small arena makes swtor just a multiplayer game with subscription fees and phat lewt.... sux... Anyway, the game will be successfull coz its basicly WoW+lightsabers+mass effect dialogs, have fun and let me throw up on swtor once more....................... byeee!
Not sure why people are still bashing SWTOR over their option to heavily utilize instancing, this is nothing new and the haters should get over it. No, I'm far from the biggest fan of SWTOR, actually I'm probably more against it but lines should be drawn as well. Things do get old.
Funny, how my earlier impressions of this game has been negative but as they release more information, I am actually coming to more of an understanding (not so much in agreement) to the decisions being made with this game. I'm also really glad they aren't putting so much emphasis on the class system because I think that's kind of what every MMO focuses on these days and it gets old. I actually think their class system is more a weak point than a strong point.
I really wonder how the class system will mesh with the PvP system especially with the "odd" skill distribution within the advanced classes i.e. ranged tanks and dps-turned-stealth healers. I would like to see how the story driven portions of the PvP aspect will be taken or will it be thrown to the side like most MMO's PvP. You can only drive so much story into anything until its left up to the players to provide their "input" especially when we're speaking on PvP terms.
Trying not to hate..........................but...............
..as an Aion addict, 8 vs 8 is a joke *Muhahaha*, try Abyss in Aion several 100s of people on both sides vs eachother is how *EPIC* PvP battles is today. 8vs8 is a few years back in MMO PvP
For all those wanting open world FFA PvP....browse the game list, there are tons of those out there. Trying to turn every game in development into a FFA PvP game is just silly.
This is a storyline based themepark MMO with all the standard features. If that's not what your looking for, stop reading SWTOR news, your barking up the wrong skilltree.
There's a big difference between FFA pvp and plain open world pvp. Many aren't asking for straight out FFA PvP, besides SWTOR will probably have pvp servers for those types of people. What many want is open world. Doesn;t ahve to be open entire world, but open world as in like anybody can enter and fight in it at once much like DAOC. There's a great number of people looking for that type of PvP play but there isn't any games out there that are doing it. Mythic tried doing it with Warhammer but they messed it up by giving more credit for scenrios then open worl RvR.
I have no problem with small bg's as learning tools much like the original bg's in DAOC. But once you hit max level open pvp should be where its at. Unfortunately the only people that understood that were the old DAOC developers and apparently they don;t get heard.
Warzones? 8v8s? Really Bioware? Really?! This is the vision that you guys have in regards to PVP in SWTOR? It's one of the major reason why I couldn't stand Warhammer or didn't like the WoW Battlegrounds.
So basically you are going to have little multiplayer death matches with your 8v8's instead of having open world PVP. Hell even faction based PVP is fine as long as it's open world.
I think I'm going to skip this game and just play GW2 and Rift. Seriously. What garbage.
Pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject as well. Bioware is doubling down financially on the same failed game direction that has torpedoed the previous "AAA" MMOs in recent years. You might think after watching countless failures and mass exoduses from games like Age of Conan and Warhammer who went this same route that someone at Bioware would have had enough foresight to recognize that people are sick to death of this model for PvP.
We can't forget I guess that the folks at Mythic are "helping" Bioware with this game. Given the recent track record of Mythic I wouldn't want them anywhere near my 150+ million dollar project, let alone adding in the worst parts of their failed game into mine. It's as if Bioware hasn't watched anything that has happened in the MMO genre in the last few years and think that somehow doing the same thing over and over will yeild a different result. It's MMO Insanity at its finest. The more info they release the more I think we are watching Titanic of MMOs steer into an iceberg in super slow motion.
Is this why Darkfall is beating all those games?
By the way, for those that are interested (Thanks to kethianw and cyphers for compiling the below info):

Confirmed that you do NOT have to PvP in TOR, its an option if you want too - IGN
Loot sets also seem to be in game, possible mutliple PvP sets mentioned - Gamespot
That pvp info you have there sounds alot like STO but then I hope Bioware up'ed the stakes alittle (a lot).
With only details for 1 battle ground (or what ever we want to call it) its still hard to tell what they will be like. Now IMO the information that we do have for hte 1 BG looks good.
