Thoughts from a veteran SOE MMO player: not buying the hype, not buying the game.
Even if this game, by some minor miracle, happens to end up being good, how long until Smed's hamfisted lot of codetards runs it into the ground? Or turns the whole thing into stupidly easy mode? Or turns it into a cash shop + staion cash + sub ripoff?
Why do I think these things? Because that is what SOE does to games....
And it is the SAME EXACT people, both in management and running the coding, so why would these things not happen?
My rebuttal was far from just the usage of fail, what was fail was having to respond to such a long post from someone obviously trolling. Altho I do applaud you for trolling in a much more time efficient manner. Everything on this post is the result of research from demo's and announced information on the game. This doesn't violate NDA because the information is readily available to anyone who wants to research this title. Nice try tho.
Yes, just the usage of "FAIL" as a single word sentence discredited your entire rant IMO. You used it on someone who took issue with your OP - rather than explain, you went for the old "FAIL" argument. Nice lol.
guess you're right too. So much of your post was speculation, that you really haven't violated the NDA.
... I did explain, hence my response to each of the troll's rants.
Fail was my response at the end for wasting my time and his attempt at trolling, which obviously you can't comprehend so this is the last of my time I waste on you. be sure to read each post completely before jumping to conclusions.

I completely understand your point and had commented on the exact same concerns in the original post. But I love how you want to try to troll me under the bus by saying I am a veteran MMO player. Yes I have played some SOE games the main one would be everquest, which was a great game in its era. That doesn't mean that I am a SOE fanboi and you obviously didn't read the entire first post because you completely missed my point about me disregarding this game because it was from SOE. That being said they do have experience on the hardware side of things in making mmo's and understand the value. That doesn't mean they have creative control of this game.

Here's the difference: I won't believe the SOE hype, they put out there for people to "research".
When a company like SOE has burned as many people they have, and their CEO has straight up lied as many times as he has, they get NO slack whatsoever. No way I would buy this game at release, or for months after release. No way I would buy this game, unless I had friends tell me it was fantastic. And even then, I would have to think about it, and why?
Because even if there is an SOE game / something in an SOE game that you like, chances are SOE will take it out or ruin it.
I wont be buying the game. I hear about the limited powersets and what all Cao wants to do with them, and really.....
I consider this game to not be complete and finished product. period.
Superman....Ice.....no......NO. He is a Might based character that uses the "brawling" weapon style and has freezeing breath (iconic) and heat vision (iconic), his is not Ice based. Get it right and finish it, dont make me start paying to play your beta you call a release.

That is what an SOE MMO veteran knows.
From someone who has lived thru eq2 I completely understand your views. My point is that if they hit on 90% of whats promised they will release a far superior product than previous titles released by mmo companies. Also this is a join venture with DC and WB, which could be a bad thing or a really good thing. The guy with the greatest creative input works for dc, SOE is just established in the development business and have a hand in the creation. The title could be a complete flop, but the title also has a lot more promise than I ever considered previously.

Games will always be lacking something at release because people always want more. DC has such a large IP that i am sure that the launch will leave out a lot of content that people would want to see in the game. The game hasn't launched so who knows how many powersets will make the launch, but that doesn't mean they won't make it into the game in 5 months from launch. If you wanted a light power set and it doesn't make it in at launch, that doesn't mean the launch is a failure, its content that needs to be developed and released later. This all boils down to personal opinion tho, you may want to have more power sets to choose from, that doesn't break my heart bad enough to dump the title.
As far as the superman thing goes, I don't quite understand what your trying to say. As far as i know super strength is in the game either as a initial selection or one of the traits you get while leveling up. Freezing breath and heat vision are two of his iconic abilities, I am still missing the link of how your trying to make a point with this paragraph, maybe i am just misreading.
I think a lot of people are missing the fact that they pushed back the launch. How many mmo's have the guts to do that, this is a good sign and something SOE has never done.

And I don't care enough to pay money for this game to this bad company, to be disappointed, again.
Probably ever.
I will not buy. I will wait and see, I will listen to personal reviews from people I know, and even on the off-chance they are tremendously positive, I will still probably not buy.

troll me ? grief me? nitpick me? if someone trolls me, thats what they are doing its an action not a title. If your 100% sure I work for SOE, that tells me a lot about you. A mature individual can assess the value of a game without working for them, its called intelligent observation and discussion. you mad?
I think a lot of people are missing the fact that they pushed back the launch. How many mmo's have the guts to do that, this is a good sign and something SOE has never done.
And no, it does not take guts.
It takes about having two functioning brain cells to see the absolute shelacking that FFXIV and STO took for being in unfinished states at release. It is unlikely either game will ever recover from their terrible launches.
And if it is something that SOE has never done, it is because this is the first MMO released since SOE was corporately "demoted" and made to work for the SCMI (or whatever the aconym is) division that makes the PS3 and titles. The first non "free"/kiddie/whatever not real MMO, at least.
It is probably their doing and not Smed.
And anyway, if it is the usual SOE quality, a delay won't matter.

The original post, which smells an awfully lot like professionally produced viral marketing (I do some of my work in the marketing industry) implies otherwise. It deflects and minimaizes SOE's past failings while over-hyping the positive aspects of many yet unseen features. In short, the whole post says: "Even if SOE was bad in the past, this will be different so you should buy it."
It might as well be from a handbook.
Plus repeated and direct attempts to minimize and deflect all conflicting opinions in an organized manner is suspicious, as well.

If my posting this has swayed you from playing this game than I am glad. When I posted this initially my thoughts were to inform others like myself who jumped to judge without knowing anything about the game. Now I am helping by forcing knuckle dragging mouth breathers like you to not play and that just helps create a better community in the game. Mission Accomplished.
If community of this game has scrabs like you, then how its a good community? I read your post and responded w/o any insults, you on the other had used "retarded" on your response so stfu SoE looser. You define bad community in mmorpg.
the same goes for pretty much every hyped mmorpg. you simply can't know if its gonna be finished, but using common sense and taking all other mmorpg launches as example, there is at least a 99% probability, that DC will be unfinished and bugged as every other mmorpg that has been launched so far.
At launch game will have end game raid content.
again, hype. you simply can't know what this game is gonna have at launch. Age of Conan praised its instances and end game content before launch, BUT 2 out of 3 end game instances were bugged as hell, or unplayble.
First super hero MMO to correctly use loot and items.
City of Heroes or Champions Online got loot and items. Of course you don't equip armor or weapons, just some enchantments. Because once you equip those things, your Hero will lose its unique appeareance and thats a pretty important factor in a hero based mmorpg. If all the guys wear T1/T2/Bla you won't be able differ, nor does it fit to a hero image.
Game at launch has zero crafting, which is a plus considering it would be hard to fit into the genre. Also consider this a plus because developers did not try to force into game to fit the mmo requirement.
Why is lack of content a plus? They simply didnt make it in time. Most, if not every mmorpg had a crafting system at launch.
Quest are put into a storyline development for your character making the grind to end game more enjoyable.
Hype? Who knows? An objective view is not possible, since nobody was able to play it and review in a neutral way.
Has the real feel of creating a character in the DC Universe and experiencing that universe up close and personal.
A lot of MMORPGs have pretty advanced character creation system. Its nothing special nowadays.
Huge IP allowing for years of additional content and expansions.
Huge IP doesn't mean much. Best example is Star Trek. Failed horribly, even tho its the holy Stark Trek.
Has the true feel of becoming a super, travel is fast and robust, flying is not limited by a fly-o-meter that only allows you to fly two blocks.
City of Heroes and Champion Onlines, both have all travel powers you clould imagen for a super hero. Flight without limitation, super jump, port, underearth movement and so on and on an on..
Graphics are robust and well programmed, allowing older systems to play the game.
Again: Hyped. You simply can't know how well or bad the game will run. Its not being released yet. The graphics doesn't look special for this generation of MMORPGs. Its even comparable to Champion Online, which is 2 years old now. Tera or Blade n Soul have better graphics.
UI, servers, and controls differ in the PC and PS3. We don't have the fail UI system of Final Fantasy forcing PC players to use a system made for consoles.
PVP content completely developed allowing for both open world and arena style combat. PVP elementals also reflected in talent builds and items.
How could you know that? You know what they said about Aion? The next great PvP mmorpg hope? Yeah. It failed, it failed so miserably most pro gaming clans cancled it after the first month. A mmorpg simply cant have a balanced PvP system at launch. You need a lot of tests, huge amount of player feedback to reach a state where PvP is somewhat balanced
Your opinion is not an objective one and by far nothing that a vetaran would write. If you learn something from MMORPG launches is that most start off pretty bad. They are bugged, unbalanced and not ready. It's all about the hype. But as long as you keep your expectations low, it won't hurt that bad in the end.
last note: A vetaran, would review a MMORPG after playing it for 1-2 months. He/She would compare it to other mmorpgs and define if its worth it to play this game or not. All you do in your post is "reviewing the hype" and of course nobody will tell you something negative about a game that is going to be released soon.
And I don't care enough to pay money for this game to this bad company, to be disappointed, again.
Probably ever.

We are in an interesting situation with SOE, on the one hand, I can't forgive what they did to SWG, but DCUO does have a number of things that have made me think twice about trying another game from them. In fact, I do plan on buying DCUO. I've bought all the super hero MMOs.
When DCUO was announced I was pretty sure I wasn't going to buy it because I got burned on CO, DC comics never really did it for me, and it was an SOE game. Now though, after seeing the game and the way the combat plays, and how they speak about the content updates monthly.. I can't help but be drawn to the game. Of course I'll be trying it in Open Beta, (well hopefully I'll get in this month because I received it as a pre-order for my birthday) but unless the game doesn't play remotely close to how it looks like it plays, I'm pretty sure I'll still buy this one.
It kind of is reminiscent of Funcom. Many people are angry at funcom and won't buy another game from them because of AoC, but The Secret World actually looks like it could be good. I can't rule them out now either. Even Cryptic with their Neverwinter MMO has piqued my interest.
A good game is worth looking at, and I think DCUO might very well be a fantastic game.
I wont be buying the game. I hear about the limited powersets and what all Cao wants to do with them, and really.....

I can totally respect that opinion and you bring some valid points to the table. I was under the assumption that super strength was added into the game later more as a talent tree kind of thing rather than a starting trait, but i totally agree that it should be one of the starting power sets. While I find it regretful, I will have to play the beta/open beta before I can finalize my opinion on power sets.

Thank you, my intention was as such because thats what I am doing, giving them a chance on this product. The fact that you think I did well enough to be considered a professional makes me think I got into the wrong industry.
I didn't say it was good viral marketing. Part of the point is for it not to be recognized as such. That it is, completely removes any possible effectiveness, and may create backlash against the company producing it.
And I don't care enough to pay money for this game to this bad company, to be disappointed, again.
Probably ever.
I will not buy. I will wait and see, I will listen to personal reviews from people I know, and even on the off-chance they are tremendously positive, I will still probably not buy.
SOE can blame themselves.

Good point with SWG and one I overlooked. I had left the game a short time before the patch that destroyed it so I was no longer invested in the title. So I did overlook one of the worse transgressions on their resume. A lot of mmo companies have burned me in the past, AOC I wasn't invested in because I saw the flop coming, so when it happened it didn't scar me for life, whereas everything that NC soft releases turns to a turd (star trek is ranked as one of the worse released games EVER ). I agree that everything hangs on how beta pans out, after trying the beta of star trek i immediately got a refund from steam on my pre order and I will do the same if this is a sub par product, I refuse to financially support any game that presents me with a bad product just to fill a need in my life to play an mmo.
And I don't care enough to pay money for this game to this bad company, to be disappointed, again.
Probably ever.

I will take the inital compliment as it was intended. That I did a professional job of making a post to inform the community on the information I found myself by doing research. I fail to see any backlash in simply listing opinions on released information that developers have provided. In fact I find it funny that my opinions on a game have turned into some secret viral marketing to promote the game. I went from being someone who visits mmorpg that makes a post now and then, to someone that has to be up to something because i simply have a good feeling about a title that you may not.

You are not allowed to like any game here. Except Guild Wars 2 and Eve.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
I am somewhat critical to add loot and itemization to the superhero genre. You don't see superman or Batman get exited about loot, comics is more about personal development, skills and powers than items even if exceptions exist.
Not that CoX or CO did that part very well.
CoX certainly did it better than CO, though. I just wish they didn't start referring to alot of the higher up enhancements by names like "earring of the X", etc. Totally destroys your "this is my unique character with his/her unique powers" feel. Should've just referred to them as enhancements from training and called it a day.
Also don't mind the actual inventions that you can make. The implementation is bad, though. Nowhere near enough inventory space, and they don't have much "oomph" as powers go.
I'd be interested to see some gadgeteering options more along the lines of Champions PnP, where you have a set maximum of points you can spend to slot gadgets(powers). Where you might only be able to change them out at a workshop. Power balance would be a pretty big challenge, though. Maybe go at powers the way Ryzom did.

And it is the SAME EXACT people, both in management and running the coding, so why would these things not happen?
... I did explain, hence my response to each of the troll's rants.
Fail was my response at the end for wasting my time and his attempt at trolling, which obviously you can't comprehend so this is the last of my time I waste on you. be sure to read each post completely before jumping to conclusions.
speculation? what exactly is speculation?
That is what an SOE MMO veteran knows.

Oh another thing STOP calling everyone trolls SOE SOB employer.
Probably ever.

troll me ? grief me? nitpick me? if someone trolls me, thats what they are doing its an action not a title. If your 100% sure I work for SOE, that tells me a lot about you. A mature individual can assess the value of a game without working for them, its called intelligent observation and discussion. you mad?

They have already said their are only 6 power sets. Fire, Ice, gadgets, nature, magic, mental. They had others slated and they said they would have them done in time, so to me i consider that unfinsihed for both reasoning and player choice.
Super strength is not in the game, only the above listed power sets, that is a huge issue for a lot of people. the wikie listed a lot more. As have as the hard light powerset goes. i heard and agree with how they want to do it. My point here was taht if i want to play as a character inspired by super an i do not get super strength power set, i am mad an Ice based cahracter, so all my abilities are Ice. Being coated in Ice, throwing snow balls, ice boulders, and i choose heat vision and ice breath as iconic powers, but they said you have to wait until lvl 10 or so to get any iconic choices. The only "super strength' i heard of was an Iconic that lets you pick up cars, but its not a Power set that includes thinkg like invulerability or ground pounding, etc.
Push it back more, i'm ok with that, but give me the power sets that make more sense.
Thank you, my intention was as such because thats what I am doing, giving them a chance on this product. The fact that you think I did well enough to be considered a professional makes me think I got into the wrong industry.

I didn't say it was good viral marketing. Part of the point is for it not to be recognized as such. That it is, completely removes any possible effectiveness, and may create backlash against the company producing it.
