I won me a collectors copy from Ebay for $25.00. So in a few days I'll be seeing how improved it is since the last day of beta.

I've enjoyed the game since day 1 and continue to this day and now I'm baiting because in my opinion I enjoy the game and want to provide my experienced opinion to others who might be believeing a bunch of posts by people who never reached level 10....

Part in red would be baiting. When you continue to do something you are accused of doing it does little to help prove your innocence.

... and it's still irrelevant to the fact that his OP, wherein he stated an opinion, albeit an unpopular one, was not baiting. That's the point of contention here. Whatever he said after that takes nothing away from it.

I normally find your posts accurate, Mike, but I think you fell a bit short on this fellow, the OP. While your logic is indeed sound that his original post was not baiting on the surface, read EVERY SINGLE comment of his afterwards. He set a harmless hook on a string and didn't bait it until the fish were swarming around. So while you're technically arguing a correct point, you're still not really correct in the overall picture this OP is painting.

On topic, FFXIV is not a well designed or put together game by every aspect of what is the general consensus of what makes up a good video game. People can have their opinions of what good and bad are, because it's subjective, but every objective piece of analysis people use to analyze video games, this game is falls of the mark.

    Hello all

Now as i see it FFxiv is a good game . Its just not a great game though the Dev's are working towards making it better witch to me is a good thing and the fact that SE has admited it isnt up to Par makes it even better  cause they will be trying to get it up to Par. Give it 6 months and it should get to being a goodish - Great game. I have a Level 23 char 15 lancer ,15 Botinist and a few others.

Give it time after all ffxi took almost a year to be playable.

    Current games;
    Star treck online
    Rift
    Eve online
    Firefall

If this is a good game then what is a bad MMO?  I mean this game launched with A LOT of basic stuff missing.   They are taking about 3-4 months to get in all the stuff that was missing and fixing the dumb design decisions they made....then maybe it will be a good game but its not there yet.

There is the mistake of it all FFXIV ISNT a MMO . Its a console port that just has some MMO features.

If you Remember this it is a good game though SE is trying to make it a MMO.

I'm pretty sure it is an MMO. It's just a bad one right now. A car is still a car if it's missing all its wheels, engine, doors, and trunk. It happens to be a real shitcan of a car, but it's still a car.

Well said, I'm surprised someone would think what the OP originally said was baiting people. I don't know what the trend going here is all about, but it's rather funny, I see it on every forum. It's like people expect everyone to think negatively about every single MMO in existence.

Look folks this may be a tad unrelated but understand I'm only saying this because it is a rebuttal against the "everyone hates it so it must be bad" line of thinking I'm seeing here. I grew up with Hardcore music, bands like Slapshot, Sick of it all, 108 (oldschool 108), Battery, OS101, Cro-mags etc...

Just about everyone I grew up with and their mothers (except a handful of close friends) hate what I listen to, yet many people love what i listen to as well. Different strokes for different folks as they say. As a musician I will say there is no musical value in what I grew up with, none at all. Yet that's not what it was about, much like old-school MMO's it was about community, friendships, and hanging out with like minded people.

I'm not saying that's what FFXIV is about. However it goes along with the idea that different people have different motivations in doing and enjoying what ever it is they do. How many of you hated SWG in its early years because there was no content, lots of bugs, ever changing jedi system so on and so forth?

There was nothing there in comparison to games like WOW, and other themepark games that have released over the years. Yet there are a great many people that loved it anyway. Because when there's nothing to do, you make something to do, and everyone plays along. That was better than any content added by a dev house I've experienced. Maybe that's what people like the Op are doing in FFXIV?

You know man, you're right in a lot of ways. In my linkshell we have a vast community of tradeskills, we repair and build for each other, we cook and fish together. We get into a group of 8 and chain crabs.. We have fun... We don't worry about how much points we need to level, we do what we need to help one another and experience and skill points just come. We help new people find there place and there calling in Final Fantasy XIV, sure there is no high end content... but I can bearly get all my jobs over 30 and I still am a level 3 alchemist! So I have a lot more to do... it's like 11 to me and always will be... it's about the communtiy and not getting into a vast hurry. FFXIV moves slow anyways.... the combat is like a snail compared to WoW... infact it's not even comparable...

Enjoy the game for the community and the friends you make in it... sometimes it's fun to login and just get your whole group to a fishing hole to see who can catch for food for the cook =)

(EDIT: Sometimes I even login and craft for 4 hours! It's fun! How many other games do you have to spend 2-3 hours crafting all kinds of random stuff just to make something? How about a game where you have to look up the recipeis because you can't "magically" remember everything =) )

One of my biggest problems with the game is that the chat system is awful. You are limited to how much you can type, you can't resize the text smaller. When I played no one would answer my questions or talk to me, infact no one was talking anywhere. Why? Because the chat system is awful, it deturs people from using it because they are battling the interface.

There hope that this game will become much better than it is and i'm excited for the day that happens , but i don't know how anyone could have community fun in this game with the chat system the way it is. Unelss ofcourse you know all these people IRL and somehow managed to deal with the numerous UI problems.

    Current MMO: WoW/GW2

The chat system is awful to a point yes..... I will agree with you somewhat... although we use ventrilo so I use the chat maybe once every hour?

The worst thing I find in FFXIV, is the marketplace... sometimes it can take 30minutes just to find a single item.... 90% of people are making it hard by putting stuff in the wrong places and just not carring what the taxes are.

aion online = bad, lol, cursed items cash shop :P, worst. but did have good aspects. just because its bad doesnt mean it has good things about it that made me play the game in first place. like the pvp was fun there. personal stat allocation. I love mmoprgs that allows you to also add your own points every level = win. :D

But long term doesn't keep me an it was just a free game i was trying out for fun intermission. Long term wasn't as epic as you thought.

What does Aion Online have to do with Final Fantasy XIV?

I know you're going to block me for this. That doesn't take much of anything though...

Really? You pulled a quote from two months ago when he was having issues? Issues that he's not complaining about now? So that would make it not an issue anymore. That also doesn't make it not worth playing. Just sayin'...

The game has issues, no denying that. I'm in it for the long haul, so the game I see and play is good. It's only going to get better from here I predict. Can call me on it if it never does though. But it is.

Hands down it's the worst MMO I've paid money for.

It'd have been absolutely the WORST single player RPG I'd have ever bought if this was at all true.

It's an empty shell of a game. It's deep in its texture and lighting and shallow in game play and content.  Really it needs way more than a patchwork for the obvious rushed errors they made. Some content will go a long way.

I think the point was to show that there was in fact a "reason this game would not be a game worth playing."  It may be a little stretch if that post really is two months old, but technical issues are a reason that one might not play the game.  Personally, I had a huge problem with all the loading screens and how long (not terribly long, but so often that it added up quickly).  I think the game was far too catered to console.  Perhaps people who enjoy consoles will have a tendency to like this game better, but as a PC gamer, it certainly is an issue to me when a game is released on PC but simply feels like I'm playing through an emulator (and a bad one at that!).

I really hope all MMO developers add this game to the list for what not to do in releasing a game.  However for those of you in the "majority" (sorry I had to make a snide comment about that! :) ) who love the game, I hope you can enjoy the game for a long time to come.

I would go so far as to say it comes off better as an attempt at an MMO than it would as a single player game. If it were like this, but in a single player setting it would be even more boring. But the idea that eventually they will get to charging monthly for this "empty shell of a game" (I quoted you there because that pretty much sums up my view of the game as well hehe).  No matter how much content they add over time the general gameplay, quests, story quests etc will all feel trite and lacking in depth or a sense of adventure.

I'm just confused as to how people who have been developing games in a franchise for so long could make a game like this and think it was going to succeed in the current market. Sure the graphics are spiffy, but mainly in the level of detail and I never felt wowed by anything visually. FFXIV is going to have a real hard time hanging on come next year.
