lol whut? forced pve server where did you get that? and there GONNA be open pvp adn WvW pvp as early mentioned, as long with many forms of instanced pvp, so i dont really see any weakness on thaht point with so many options
Things will run a lot more smoothly around here when everyone just acknowledges that Guild Wars 2 is the Chuck Norris of MMORPG's. The only possible weakness it may have is that it is too strong in all facets of the game, so players will have considerable angst deciding about which activity to enjoy more than should be reasonably allowed during a given evening.
To the OP, GW2 will not have an open world pvp. Guild Wars was never about unfair match-ups and griefing. Open world pvp is unfair and a lot of people simply don't enjoy it. And you know why games don't put it in? Because you are having fun by making the game not fun for someone else. This is not tolerated in AAA MMOs and it's not something ArenaNet will ever do.

I don't hate PvP....I'm so dispassionate about it I have no feelings for it one way or the other. If it's in a game....fine and I'll play it. (My first "real" MMO was Ultima Online, after all.) But if a game DOESN'T have PvP but has all the other things that make a good MMO, i.e., good lore, good crafting, good quests and PvE dungeons, good tools for socializing, preferably player housing of some sort and guild leveling or achieving of some sort.....I mean if it has all or most of that....I don't personally miss or even THINK about PvP.
Some games have it, some don't, and some have varied TYPES of it. I just don't think every damn game has to be made for the PvP'ers, and with THEIR desires being the most important. God knows there are PLENTY of PvP games for those people. Maybe GW2 will have PvP for the people that DON'T live to "pwn n00bs," but just enjoy PvP once in a while for variety. You know....the ones that don't base their self image on their PvP scores and just do it for FUN.
Oh....and not everyone would consider that kind of PvP to be a "weakness," just for the record.
Guild Wars 2 has to have PvP because it's Guild Wars. The first game thrived on its PvP element and it was what made it THE game for a lot of players. The PvE aspect got more attention later on in the life of the game whereas PvP started declining for various reasons but most importantly it became too inaccessible for new players. The sheer amount of skills added later on made matters worse resulting in only a fraction of the game's population actively participating in the most competitive form of PvP, aka GvG. Now they are trying to bridge this huge gap between PvE and PvP with the Mists. Let's see how it works.
PvE is getting a lot of attention this time around so players looking for PvE will not be disappointed. And don't worry, PvP won't affect your PvE because they have learnt one very important lesson in GW1 - keep PvP and PvE seperate even if you have to make skills behave differently.
GW1 fans will be furious if there was no GvG which is what defined the original game.

I have never figured out why players have to PvP to the extreme, they will gank & kill another player over & over.. if they are allowed to!

I wonder whether the OP knows about Guild Wars' PvP, which bears some similarities with GW2's. Devs actually said that the competitive aspect will simply require you to go through PvE's tutorial and then (after just a few minutes after creating your char) you're in PvP mode, similarly to GW1 with all skills and items equal accross all players.

With forced PvE servers and instanced pvp only is pvp gw2's weak point? Don't get me wrong I think the combat will probably be great but the pvp is shall we say... neutered?
GW1 had and still have a lot of PvP players, PvP is the most popular part of the game.

I say many will love GW2s PvP but others wont. You can't please all and GW2 is aiming for balanced PvP with 3 sides in massive battles in a large open area. That is exactly what I want from PvP but that doesn't mean you want it of course, but it sure isn't a weakness.

Check again. There is a difference between a "massive multiplayer online roleplaying game" and a single player roleplaying game and the difference is the massive multiplayer thing, not the RPG thing.
I can understand your mistake since many games seems to be called MMORPG without being more than MMOs. But that is really no excuse since this is a RPG game.
I guess some people see EXTREME PvP as chugging mountain dew while you gank someone that is busy trying to pve. Good riddance to those that see that as EXTREME PvP, enjoy that in other titles.
If you enjoy competitive PvP that tests yours skills rather than your ability to grind or catch your opponents by surprise then keep your eyes on GW2.
It's like saying fights are more EXTREME when someone sneaks up on the other guy with a crowbar to the head as opposed to competitive fight scene like a UFC title fight between closely matched opponents. To each their own I suppose.

You do realize this IS an RPG game? You know most of the people who play on pvp realms (I'm among them as well) think that ganking is lowest you can go in pvp, it's the most idiotic form of pvp, and NO it's NOT FUN, it's stupid and frustrating, I don't see how it can be fun when you kill someone who clearly isn't a match for you and then you wait for him to resurrect and kill him again (yaaay, the FUN!! -.-) ... And no, if someone gets ganked doesn't mean he's not a pvp material, it just means someone, who thinks ganking 1 guy with group of 10 people is fun, got bored and went to annoy other people. So don't act smart if you really took in consideration only your own opinion... If you do it's just rubbish talk.
EDIT: Oh and I hope you know EXTREME PvP isn't anything like you just said ? -.- Do you even know the meaning of that word, I surely ain't familiar with that kind of pvp (and trust me, I played almost every mmorpg game worth playing)...

Well not to argue or anything Loke666 but this game is called an MMORPG for a reason and it is true that it has RPG elements in it but it also has the MMO part in it and so it is NOT an RPG but it IS an MMORPG if you're saying this is an RPG then what is Final Fantasy 7?
Korent...this is not an RPG... its simple to know that there is a difference.. I don't quite understand the concept .. it has RPG elements but it is NOT an RPG it is an MMORPG for a reason and that reason is the online part...You cannot call a MMORPG and RPG just because it has some of RPG in it....Just like the post above... what is Final Fantasy 7 then? And I didn't mean because you get ganked you're not pvp material but when you WHINE about being ganked you are not pvp material because getting ganked is apart of the package... and you can get others. Does the full name "Massively Multiplayer Online ROLE PLAYING GAME" tells nothing to you about what the game is and is not ?
EDIT: didn't see the latest post, so how do you call games which are just like any other MMORPG game without interacting to other people online who play the same game, but is role playing and has the same style. I know it's called RPG. So yes, it is the same but only difference is people are put together in the same world so they can interact.
"Happiness is not a destination. It is a method of life." -------------------------------
Is it a weakness if players can play the game without being ganked at every turn by high level players against whom they have no chance? Is it a weakness if PVP is fairly balanced so that the skill of the player matters, rather than PVP battles being nearly automatically won by whichever side is higher level, has better gear, and/or has more players in the area? I'd call those strengths, not weaknesses.
I like the idea of a seperate PVP system away from PVE. In my eyes GW2 appears to be the system that I am looking for right now in an MMO.
ugh, do you still not understand.. what I am trying to explain... it is so simple...I even gave final fantasy 7 as an EXAMPLE, IT IS NOT AN RPG BECAUSE OF THE MMO PART OF IT, CAN'T YOU READ! IT IS SO SiMPLE TO UNDERSTAND... I SAID IT HAS RPG ELEMENTS DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW? DO YOU GET IT? (I typed in caps lock because maybe you need some glasses and can't read the small type). YOU CANNOT CALL AN MMORPG AN RPG THEY ARE DIFFERNT TITLES BESTOWED UPON DIFFERENT GAMES.
EDIT: OK, now i see you're new edited post so you do understand.
EDIT: Truth be told when I play an MMORPG i definitely feel its totally differnt than an RPG. Besides an MMORPG being online an RPG has a main story that no matter what is followed there is nothing you can do really but play the story that is layed out for you to play. MMORPGs feel is just totally different and I think its because in RPGs there is no competition and you go at you're own pace in a relaxed fashion while in MMORPGs i feel that it is less relaxing simply because of the competition, you don't want to be this low level with stupid looking equip on and useless who can't go on raids or kill the players above them. The only thing an MMORPG has as far as i'm concerned that is similar to RPGs are the quests.. and even that is drastically differnt because the quests in MMORPGs are basically dry and unimportant you just do them so you can level.
I sure hope Open World PvP is a strong point. DAoC was my game of choice. I read a thread where a developer compared GW2 to it, thus my hopes are defintely elevated. If it is comprised of unavoidable zergs and instanced BGs where I am at the mercy of random groups of players then I will be disappointed.
I will wait before I buy it though. I'll follow forums and see what the good and bad is before I spend one cent or a micron of my time. If it looks as though they really did design the 'Open' world like it's actually 'open' instead of Warhammer's version of a bottlenecked crap-fest of a zerg (which continues to fail despite the 'battle' and 'personality' packs), then I will buy it.
I do have my fingers crossed for the game. But not too crossed. Since DAoC, I have wiped my backside with too much of my cash and time on games I 'hoped' were going to be even remotely in the ball park.
Yeah I hope GW 2s weakness isn't pvp as well as I only play mmorpgs for the pvp lol. I feel that if i want to play in a group and do some quests and fight some bosses lol I might as well take out the ol Legend of Dragoon.

Thus... I pray GW2's weakness is not PvP.
Yeah I hope GW 2s weakness isn't pvp as well as I only play mmorpgs for the pvp lol. I feel that if i want to play in a group and do some quests and fight some bosses lol I might as well take out the ol Legend of Dragoon.
