So this VIP key give away was poorly handled. Only because there were already 180+ responses every day i tried to get one. Today on day 5 i refreshed the damn page every minute all damn day like a idiot, only to see the announcement in news and poof all the sudden 5 minute load times . When the page finally loads 212 responses...uuuugh.
I dont care that much, ill eventually play the game. However I wish your give away was handled differently , this was just frustrating and a waste of my energy.
O and if this was done to get more hits on your websight.....lame . I wont fall for these shenannigans again.

They handled it like shit.
Postet when there where 3 comments. my comment appeard at 150..FU.
would have preffered a contest... because it lagged like fuck
I am really upset in how it was handled, in my opinion the first 200 post should not even be counted, as soon as the thread popped it was over. Its just stupid
I'd have to agree. MMORPG.com knows better than this, i might not post much but been reading their articles for years.
This is my favorite MMO site by far.
This was not done well. If even 50 keys went to bots or new members who will never come back it was unfair to loyal members of the site.
Kings and Sons of God
Travel on their way from here
Calming restless mobs
Easing all of their, all of their fear
Strange times are here.
yeah i didnt even bring up the fact of bots and people creating accoutns just for this key who will never come back. O wait i just brought it up..o well
To defend these guys, they are handling it the same as the other sites out there.
But at least they gave us a heads up. Its the big mouths out there that told the outsiders.
im sure we all could have done a better job administering this contest blah blah blah.....STOP WHINEING!!!
what? i have been googling it waiting for it to show up, and nada (the other days showed up)
so now...zip
wow
same here
This will backfire on MMORPG.com as they have turned what could of been a good marketing tool into one that makes them look like a bunch of idiots.
I would not be surprised to see this actually hurt their hits down the road as folks wont bother to visit due to their bad experience in this giveaway.
Hey, these guys are dissapointed, let them get the rage out of their system.
I know the pain of losing such a contest sue to lag and bad luck.
This is how Rift has handled all of their VIP key give aways, not MMORPG.com.
If they did a random drawing it would be bots creating accounts to increase the chances of winning. If they did a a first come first serve on all 500 keys they would have been gone in 30 seconds, again mostly to new accounts.
So as I said in a previous cry post, blame Trion Worlds, not MMORPG.com. Trion are the ones who have handled their beta like crap since day one. Neglecting their own community, making them run all over the internet for a chance at beta instead of handling it professionaly. Instead long time forum members get a basic beta key, for a chance at 1 beta event, and VIP keys got sent out to random people across the internet to advertise the game, sounds backwards to me.
wee i got a key
here's hoping wasting my entire day was worth it...
nolife ftw
I agree that this was stupid. I work from home.. I have 2 computers up.. one on the Rift News page and the other for work.. I refreshed the page all day... News comes up, I submit comment and lag out to no end... 240 summin to post... that was insane.
Your an idiot. Trion hands out VIP keys to various sites as a marketing tool and to get the RIFT name out... but Trion doesnt dictate or decide how that site uses them. Look at TenTonHammer. They chose to set it up so only premium members would get VIP keys. The only ones at fault here are those who work for MMORPG.com for doing it in the way they did.
If you actually payed attention to some of the other ways you could get keys maybe you wouldnt of made yourself look so stupid.
I think the old idea of letting everyone write their name on a list and then randomize 100 every day would work better... But of course did I miss the key so I might just be a bit whiny.
so i posted #45 but posted a link (ctrl+v) on accident instead of posting the generic "key please!" haha...so waiting to see if I get my key. Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones sorry everyone lost to bots thats the lamest thing ever...(i know cause I've already lost 4 times...)
I got a key at 94 well i hope i get a key and i deffenently like this site for that as for all the helpfull advice that the members give to ecah other. If would not have gotten one i still mabey have gotten one from the german web site and the non vip keys to boot. i will visit this site if i didn't before i did just never had an account.
last but not least play safe
They have given out beta keys like this in the past and on one complained. I think this shows just how much hype is being built up around this game. The gamers of the world are being worked up to a frenzy!
How should mmorpg.com handle it? Should they give preference to users who have a specific minimum number of posts? Or perhaps to those who have been signed up since.....September 2010 (or whatever)? How would that look to a newly registered user, or someone who genuinely signed up to try and win, and who might just stay a member?
I get the frustration, but I think this site doles out prizes as they get them. Most of the beta giveaways I've seen on this site usually involve much more than 100 keys at a time. I think the issue lies with someone other than mmorpg.com.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Hmm maybe you should check your facts out .
I think i will blame you not trion or mmorpg see how much sense that makes .
Well at least all the hubbub about how unfair the key giveaway is creates hype about a game...
I'm sure if you could get a key easily you wouldn't give two wanks about it.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
So you are saying that paying for a key is better than a chance to get it for free? Right, here I thought people were accusing MMORPG.com of being greedy, but apparently pay-2-beta is better? Also while on the topic, Massively gave out keys on a first click first serve basis, they were all gone almost instantly. I'm fully aware of how Trion is handling the beta keys and its a joke. However, you are entitled to your opinion and I wont call you stupid or an idiot for having it.
Usually you sign a list and then they draw the number randomly from the list.
But it seems like many sites use the same method here, not sure why.
I wonder if they shouldn't scrap this whole "Beta" thing, or at least stop calling it beta and call it "preview". A beta is to fix up the game before the release but the last few years it seems to be about marketing instead of making sure they release a good product. That rant is BTW not aimed to Trion but to all MMOs, they seems to be doing the same thing.
It doesnt seem to bad to me. I didnt get a key was atleast post number 170 or so (how do u guys get the exact number of your post?? counting??) They get people to sign upto there site and get alot of hits via refreshs hehe..
I check this site everyday but ive never bothed to sign upto the forum's and there's usualy no point responding in the forum threads, but now I have a account. I bet tons of other people fall into this boat also.
Anyways Garb out.
