Kinda like how CoH and FFXI are good mmos but noone ever talks about them, they have steady playerbases and are respected but you never really hear about them... that will be rift.

I'm getting on board with this prediction ^^^^^^.  Just a sneaking suspicion I have.

I'd like to add my counter-prediction.

Release Day: Some players will say that the game offers nothing new, or that there are too many bugs, or that the combat system sucks, or that it's just like WoW, or it's boring, or there's not enough content, or quit the game after a few hours because it's not for them but feel compelled to come here to post a "Why I quit" thread to supposedly "warn others to not play this horrible game".

Other players will say the game is a refreshing take on the genre, or that the bugs are to be expected with any new release and the game is still fun despite some minor bugs, or that the game is nothing like WoW and it reminds them more of X game (only better), or there is plenty of content and they don't know what the other players are talking about, they say they will subscribe to the game (or will subscribe if X or Y is fixed before the free month is up), they will feel compelled to come here and post replies to the "Why I quit" threads to supposedly "warn others that those players quitting are just missing the point".

There you go, see if that doesn't come true :D

I don't like WoW, so I hope nothing kills it, it can hopefully keep its audience, and those looking for something new/different can find new games.  Nothing is killing wow but time, they got too much cash and can retool quickly by throwing cash at it, if needed.

Like AOC was a WoW killer. Like Darkfall was a WoW killer. Like Aion was a WoW killer.

    Right.

There will only be two, "WoW" killers.

#1: When Blizzard descide to pull the plug

#2: When / If they release World of Warcraft 2.

I'm greatful to WoW, that keeps the majority of kiddos away from the other good MMO's i want to try / play.

Everyone needs to remember that we do not want Wow to die out. It keeps a crap ton of sheeple away from other games.

All we need now are more successful indie developers who are not influenced by corporate thinking who have the balls to make mature and intelligent real mmo's.

I know RIFT is still a clone at heart but there is a huge difference between the original Everquest format and what that format has become today. We need old school revival combined with new age thinking and games made for gamers once again.

I will find out if this became reality once my VIP access is in use. My ultimate game would be a Asheron's Call Rebirth (more sandbox and new tech retelling of the original game) but a 'made for the players' themepark that is actually fun would be a nice distraction.

    You stay sassy!

Back around 98 when EQ came out, the lvl cap was 50, there were no instances, 12 starting races and several dieties to select from. The races and deities only affected the pvp reams, only 3 pvp realms. Generally there were about 4 factions. With each xpac you got  new races for your factions.

As much as I like the idea of Rift and what it has to offer, and as lame as 98 games are nowadays, nothing will compare to the pvp on EQ. Nor will camping mobs or world bosses with out qqing about some body else camping your boss or haveing to pvp for the spawn spots.

Even raiding you had to organize 6 man parties to hold down each section of the zone. There was no dungeon instant for your 20m groups. I miss the difficulty lvl of what EQ had to offer back in 98. Hopefully Rift will bring a lot of it back. But from the sounds of instance dungeons and raids, perhaps it is just a New WoW with better graphics and new ways to do new things.

Considering WoW is releasing Cataclysm in a week, I am sure the WoW players will have plenty to overcome and do during the release of Rift.

SC2 already reduced the population of realm servers on WoW anyways.

The only way WoW will die is when everyone makes a mass exodus of the servers for something else. If Rift does it, good for them, ToR does it, good for them. The only thing killing these newer games is word of mouth, people see a screen shot, see a discription of the game and BAM! instant WoW clone. They hate it, they tell people in the WoW guild who where interested in it and they hate it and so on and so forth until the game is considered nothing more than a grind fest.

I remember when everyone left EQ, i was the last of my friend's to leave the game for anything else, but everyone left for WoW because they all loved the Warcraft RTS games, but other than that, they only left because they where bored with EQ. So when people get bored of WoW, thats when a game will become a WoW killer.

Its been said many times... The only WoW killer I know is going to be WoW itself.

Blizzard will launch the 1st virtual WoW mmo with all their money.. Ok.. I am getting silly...

Anyways, the game is a anomaly when its comes to mmo's. It had the right time, place and player base.

And this isn't sarcastic, goodluck to Trion Worlds with Rift, we do need other types of fun playing mmorpgs out there now.

    Vanguard the WOW killer

The game that will kill WoW will be the game that people don't label as a WoW killer.

    Everquest and Everquest 2 Veteran.

Every time someone mentions WoW in a positive or negative sense, someone somewhere re-installs it.

    Look! There goes another one!

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

WoW hasnt been killed yet because there really isnt/hasnt been anything viable of late to overthrow it's reign from the top... yet.

I think this year is as good as any for WoW subscribers to finally call it quits with MANY solid MMO titles coming out in 2011:

    - RIFT

    - Guild Wars 2

    - SWTOR

    - TERA

    - DCUO

There's hope for better gaming on the horizon and next year we'll be a great year to be an MMO gamer.  WoW will gradually come down off the top but it wont be killed... yet. ;)

    Another one of these? really?

    /facepalm

Before I make my statement, let me say that I do not play WoW anymore; I left 7mths ago after reading some of the new things coming with Cataclysm. There is no WoW killer; there will never be a WoW killer. Games will survive even when something better comes around; look at the original EQ and UO for examples. Those games are still around, even with outdated graphics and lack of game play in some areas.  The only WoW killer is blizzard and that’s only if they shut the game down themselves.

Lets just hope WoW never dies and they all stay loyal when other great up and coming games like Rift and GW2 are released because the one thing that has the potential to ruin these games is that feral nerd raging community moving en masse to one of these great new titles. All hail WOW!!! (World of Wankers!) hahahaha may it live for ever

OREALLY? looks like you missed the raging community of Rift, during the VIP beta key give away drama. I am pretty sure Rift will have plenty of raging little whatever you wanna call them.

Also not enough stereotype in your post, try harder next time. You left out plenty of cliches like all WOW players are losers, have no life, are dumb and suffer from ADD, live in their moms basement etc etc. And always make sure to end your psot like this...

I don't play WOW so i am better then all of you. look at me i play RIFT, i am such fine specimen and then..

    /flexing my muscles.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?
