Do you think Square-Enix will merge or go bankrupt?

I'm personally hoping they make some amazing games so people start investing in them again. But......

All they have left is Versus >,<

    whut?

that a bit of an out of the blue statement...

SE is is no danger of going bankrupt at present, not seen any indications it would be, Fair enough shares have dropped, but so have most companies

LOL just because final fantasy 14 is sliding does not mean they will go bankrupt. They make and maintain many other games. The title of the thread is rediculous.

No. SE is too big to fail. They expected XIV to be in the red from the start, so they have enough money that they can afford to loose some.

Their entire future is not riding on just one game.

When are they coming out with FFXIV 2?

The change the Rightous UI  to a boring workable UI in the current one, dude.

I like my MMOs to fight and disagree with me while I play them.... Laaaaaaaag Yesssssss.

I dunno man, their stocks are looking like 4kids.tv did before they were kicked off the stock market.

But yeah, SE has been going down for quite some time...even the Japanese are hating their game.

Or maybe theyll go sega's route and start making software.

Honestly wouldn't worry about them going Bankrupt. I'm sure they are still pulling in enough from FFXI to make up for the hit they took with FFXIV lol.

Honestly, I don't see SE going bankrupt any time soon. They have too many game titles other than the MMOs that are going well.

They've already got the two biggest names in JRPGs working together, what more could they do? Heck, they even own Eidos now, owner of one of the best Action Adventure Games in the Game business.

I didn't even know about Eidos ... but I do have to say that I miss the tale of Final Fantasy I with Squaresoft pulling themselves out of bankruptcy.

I can only imagine that if it came down to it, SE will either merge again to keep going, or pull another FF and release something so awesome that they'll be rich again.

Neither. However, I do think that between the lackluster XIII and the apparent failure that is XIV, SE will have to batten down and rethink how they do things. Once upon a time, they could do no wrong. Now...........

My brother and I had a conversation the other day about FF13. I told him I think SE may have released it that way to prove a point. That the Xbox 360 isn't capable of handling all the cool things that SE wants to do. He asked me why they would do that, and I said "For the same reason Coke released Coke New, stopped after a huge backlash, and re-released coke with the old formula. A Huge PR Stunt".

Besides. SE has a huge Ace up their Sleeve. If it gets so bad that they have to consider mergers, they just pull out one tiny gem. FF7 Remake. Book, back in the green!

Haha, they've pulled alot of money from that FF7 Stone, but I along with many others would still buy and buy again if it was new.

Wonder what mentality that comes from, but I won't complain about it.

As much as I loved SE's old games as I was growing up, their recent titles have all very much lacked in quality in my opinion. They have been on a downward slide for a long time now and they have no one but themselves to blame. It is obvious that they don't care as much about the quality of their games and whether or not they are fun, so they deserve to fail IMHO...

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

SE is still far from either, but they do need a new FF VII and no more FF XIII and XIV for a while.

1 good game and they are back in business, and in worse case scenario can they always remake FF VII with new graphics, that would sell well enough.

Nah, I think SE can survive another flop without problems, 2 more might lead to a merge.

Completely agree with this comment, the recent titles lack depth and freedom and customisation (MATERIA! Imagine an mmo where people wanted materia to customise their abilities instead of armor for just more stats! Ooops going off on a tangent there...). Honestly I was appalled when I saw that auto-attack thing in XIII, I actually barely played it - didn't get much of a chance at all. And honestly, I'm not keen on voice acting in their new games, they all sound corny with generic americanised pseudo-90s/early 2000s catchphrases. Make it a bit grimmer with funny bits, like everyone would have imagined VII and VIII to be. And cut the emo-shit, I listened to emo music when I was younger (I'll also admit to the occasional bit now and again nowadays as well) but it's way over the top in their recent titles.

    Currently playing: No MMOs
    Played properly: WoW
    Tried: AoC, WAR, Aion, Darkfall
Looking forward to: FFXIV, Earthrise, The Secret World, Guild Wars 2 (very much), Project Copernicus (and Mercury for that matter), Everquest and Planetside Next (finally a meaningful mmofps again)
Wants to play in 2 years time if it survives from the subscriptions of fanatics and turns into the game with all features stated on the website: Mortal Online

Already FF VIII were pretty Emo, Spoony called his hero "Emo git" in his video review (long but funny, Spoony is evil).

I agree with you on the voice acting, it seems like the got the voice actors who usually do Anime/toycomercial shows, you know with robots or junk that more tries to sell toys than have an actual story.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Coke history but the problem is: After FF X the FF Series(and to a larger picture,SE's game)'s been declining severely in quality. And this has turn away quite a lot of people from the series and SE.If SE's trying to pull the "Coke PR Stunt" then SE'd only need a bad quality product in a series of good quality products, but the problem is....well.....see above. Not to mention SE's said HD towns are not possible because they require too much works, talk about lazy and incompetent developers.Because these I don't buy the "SE's game's been declining in quality because they's trying to pull a Coke PR Stunt",I believe SE's games been declining in quality because SE's been becoming more and more backward and incompetent.

Besides. SE has a huge Ace up their Sleeve. If it gets so bad that they have to consider mergers, they just pull out one tiny gem. FF7 Remake. Book, back in the green!

As they've stated, HD towns are impossible because they require too much works. So don't expect FF VII remake,or even if it'll get remade, don't expect it to have the same quality as the original game.

You do realise that their action figures and plush dolls from the series can finance a small nation by themselves, right?

First off, if I company is struggling, it doesn't consider mergers.  Mergers are expensive.  Instead, they might be bought out by a better off company.

Also, there's no reason for them to declare bankruptcy unless they are in debt, and I guarantee they have enough in the company coffers to more than pay any such costs to whoever they might own money, if any.  In the worst case scenario, they would simply go out of business.

And honestly, I doubt they are in any kind of financial position where they really need to consider either a possibility.
