I wouldn't say they need a new class since they are doing just fine with that they have. If they were to add one though, I would love to see a new CC class based off the EQ Enchanter or maybe a Bard.
You been drinking the spiked Kool-Aid? Why would you want new classes to unbalance the already unstable class system there is?
They are just getting to the point of balancing classes already and you want to throw in more confusion.
But who says perfectly balancing the classes should be the primary goal of an MMORPG game. I used to play DAOC and the classes there were wonderfully unbalanced at times, kept things interesting and fun.
Lack of variety in classes (yes, I know, they have 3 talent trees each) was but one of the reasons I left WOW so long ago. I say bring them on.

From a pvp viewpoint, i dont want more classes. 10 classes at 3 specs each totaling hundreds of skills is a ridiculous challenge to balance. I think thats half the reason they got rid of hybrid talent builds. Id like to see them balance what they have before adding more classes to the mix.
They just simplified the trees for the classes and adding another which would need proper time to balance the skills would throw all that off for a while. I say they need time to see what effects of this simplification has become in the game before they start adding other classes.
I'm not talking about the classes being all equal in power but they need time to see how what they have done plays out in all areas of play, the death knight was such a wonderous time that they ruled for months before being fixed.
New classes would be cool, there is no doubt about that. However, I think if they do that, they should introduce those classes with a 3rd faction. Don't ask me how, I dunno. Maybe a faction that has Harpies, Naga, and Centaur. I just think 3 factions is the key to any game that has PVP. I blame Planetside for my mindset in those regards.
If the leaked timeline turns out to be reliable and they do plan to release the next expansions after a year and a half, then I would bet on their being a new hero class in each of them. 18 months is just too long to go to only get 5 more levels. They will need something more if they plan to charge anything at all for the expansion. But 18 months also means that it will likely be a smaller expansion that what we have seen in the past so don't expect any new races. Of course that is just my speculation.

Balance is stupid. Not all classes should be as powerful as each other. They should have pluses and minuses, and rolls to fulfill.
Yes so you get pwned by a noob because he plays the counter class... thats the stupidity of rock paper scissors system
Unbalanced pvp=fun because weak and skilless players get to "win"
Fair 1v1 pvp=difficult but fun when you win a close balanced match, but many people simply cant play competitively and just throw the i just want to have fun argument so they base the game for casuals so they can win in everything in some way
Originally posted by Deviate I like everything blizz is doing with Cataclysm and all, but I think the game needs a couple new classes to spice things up. What do you guys think?
It is a nice statement, but what type of class would you add?? They have pretty much all bases covered as it stands?
Adding in classes and or races just for the hell of it may seem like a nice idea, but it can also create absolute chaos for months trying to figure where they fit into the scheme of things.

Cloth wearing tank would be interesting.. Battle Mage?.. Monk artist? However, the problem Blizzard has is that they nerfed all the class defining roles into over simplified Holy Trinity.. It would be hard to add more classes without adding in added class roles that would be useful such as support class that buffs and debuffs.. CC roles like a pure enchanter, it can crowd control ANYTHING.. etc etc.. The pulling role was detroyed because of carebear mobs only chase you 10 feet before they reset.. .. EQ1, those were the good ole days.. lol
After seeing what has been done with that game I realize that even though there are 2 new races and all new quests that after having played all the classes that I really have no desire to do it all over again with any of them. I will try of course but I think that this game will probably only hold my intrest till I hit 85 with my DK and try out some of the redone content. I would be more enthusiastic and more likely to continue my sub longer though if there were a new class to play through it with.

I would have asked the same question before Death Knights were added. yet, they fill a niche and bring something to groups/raids. I would expect that another class could be designed that would ultimately provide its own utility as well despite the existence of the other classes that may overlap it some.
Not being a huge lore buff, is there anything in the lore, or the pnp game, that indicates other classes? if so, would those classes have a translation to the MMO?

This is an RPG, there won´t be any balance. One guy uses an axe with 1200 damage, his opponent one with 900 damage.
/need tons of classes, the more the better
Dumb example, balance in a game with prograssive stat gear is when both sides have around equal gear and skills makes the difference at the end
I would love to see an 'underpowered' class in the game. My level 12 druid was killing 21's the other night no problem.
Yes good job killing kids who dont know how to play, or you have heirhloom etc gear or etc. In wow you cant win against a player that many levels higher as long as you dont have a huge gear advantage(heirhloom) or a huge skill advantage
They said afair that they will be more hero classes and there are at least 2 more expansions so more classes will come.
Classes would be fun but more unbalanced xD
Yeah, right... Look what they did to the last "hero" class... Death Knight went from being a blast to play(as a specialized anti caster class) to being the nerfed over class that it is today. We went through at least four(possiblly five) entire skill resets, months and months of nerfs and "balances". So NO we don't need any more "hero" classes for those clowns to butcher.
i would like to see more classes, specificaly i would love to see some sort of class that uses summons as it's primary ability but unlike necromancer you have more direct control over your summons in such a way that like 90% of your skills are something you command your summon to do.. i donno lol

I'm pretty sure Blizzard by now regrets ever mentioning hero classes at all or introducing playable DKs in the first place.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
I say give us 4 more classes, hell.. nothing will ever get balanced enough anyway to satisfy us. So bring us more classes to complain about - please! I'm personally tired, real tired of the classes.. waiting to try warrior for the first time with worgen tho.

In a big way!

No it doesn't you add classes to WoW and the game will sink like a fat man tied to an anchor.
It's hard enough as is to balance all the classes they have now. More would make things incredibly difficult IMO.
Being a former lifeguard way way back.. Fat floats.. muscle sinks.. LOL Just in case you were not aware of that..
He have to be a really really fat man to resist the weight of the anchor.

something like
fire element summon = melee dps line
wind/thunder element summon = ranged dps
water/earth summon = healer
