I just had to point out how dumb this post was. You offered pros with no cons.

But Perpetuum seems ok, i downloaded over thanksgiving, but having trouble using paypal to try the game out.

It don't matter if they're laughing with you or at you, so long as they're laughing.

The encentive to venture to the pvp islands are greater rewards, better production and refining facilities not available on the PvE islands.

Four? Did they really add one more PVP island?

All PVE content and ore needed for any non-basic robots, is placed on PVP islands, Alpha islands(the starter ones) have only very limited, low end NPC.

Heh I was just asking the same thing. I only counted 6 islands total. Not 7.

There is mob camping, currently its a pretty large problem on the starter (level 1) grids/zones.

    The way it works is:

    1.) Mob spawns

2.) First player to successfully target/hit the mob gets the credit for the kill and can loot.

    VERY SHITTY.

    lol

Most of us are learning to avoid the heavily camped spawns, but unfortunately all the combat misssions require going there. So it's a pain in the arse to get kill credits when, almost impossible. You waste time and ammo (money) and come out with no kills.

    :(

The only work around is to train "targeting" EP so you can lock targets faster. And that is not really a good fix, only a bandaid for the problem.

It's needs to be dumbed down or something, so if you do damage to a mob, you get the kill credit for missions. But not the loot maybe. I dunno. Needs tweaked asap.

Outside of that this game is really really fun. Worth every penny on 10 bucks down! PLAY IT.

They must have done something with that code because in Beta, I was getting credit for kills, but was unable to loot the boxes. In one mission I got no loot at all, but completed the mission. I think the tweak to getting credit for a kill even if you weren't the first to tag a kill would be a fine way to address the camping.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I agree. If it was like that in beta then hopefully they can patch that back in.

Thats my only negative feedback atm though. :D Everything else is positive.

So you are now a fan of SciFi games.  Admit it.  Perhaps you never played the right SciFi game in the past.  But now you've discovered your latent SciFi gene with this game.   I really hope it is as good as you say.  It's certainly a small enough investment to check out.  So why not.

I really like this game.  Its much better than Eve.  The controls are like a normal game.  You have land, sky, buildings, terrain, battle mechs.  Its awsome.

Perpetuum is a breath of fresh air. I loved EvE, butI I made a bad decision to go play WAR with a buddy. I was set back over a year, and when I went back to EvE it was not the same. I agree with your assesment.

Edit: It read like I went to war with a buddy, lol. I meant I went to go play the game WAR with a buddy, stopped playing EvE for over a year.

One of the many things I've heard about this game.  It's not EVE, but mechanics and game-play can be similar at times, and still player-centric  ecosystem with a "new server".

Love the Dev interaction, today for example theY spoke in chat about how a market checking facility will become available when out of your base, applying it today, currently on test. A welcome addition, however the way it was delivered to the community was excellent. Many games even the big players could learn from this, inc EvE.

DUe posting here from my comp at work .....sooometimes my facts are a bit off.....like my typeO about the number of islands.....6-7 no big deal doesn't really mater the game is still a blast.

As for game cons......in my opinion FAR FAR FAR fewer than any other game I have ever played and I have not found any that make me question the monetary and time investment I've made so far.

DEV interaction super, eccelent, steller, awesome...... i don't know any stronger words to praise this aspect of the game. I have never seeen DEV interaction in a game like this. Its mind blowing. Devs are making changes to the game almost daily. Very fast fixes to pressing issues.

Materials gathering and whats available where. Only a few...like maybe 3 materials out of 12 or so are not available on PvE islands as it should be I think.

I'm sure they are not just running 1 server , this is like saying the windows update server is 1 server.

if the game is designed right their is no problem with this design, one  "country" could be 1 server or 1 "city" could be a server

so if people increase the servers will increase making each server responsible for a smaller area with more people on it

    don't blast away the unknown

Perpetuum is awesome. It reminds me of Eve back in the early days but it has more features and less bugs than Eve did at launch. I was lucky enough to find out about the game just a couple of days before early access so I managed to avoid the pain of waiting months for a chance to play it. I was so impressed that a day later I bought a second account and then a 3rd. Looking to pay up front for 3 years of game time to spread across the 3 accounts. The devs have earned my respect and deserve my money to keep them developing this great game. I've never seen a MMO where the devs are so accessible, you can message them in chat to discuss any issues.

The PvP is tactical, fast paced and a lot of fun. Its going to be interesting to see how this develops.

I have been playing Perpetuum for a couple of weeks. Its solid and for only have 10 Devs the game is amazingly stable. I give credit to the Devs and I will not trash the game. However i find it too slow and missioning/pvp got boring for me very quickly. So I will not be subscribing next month.

I highly recommend you try it out but it will not be for everyone.

I give it an honest 7/10 even though i will not be playing it.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

First of all the game is a straight shameless ripoff of EVE including interface damage types extensions etc.

Secondly you can not get by with just one account and be competitive so forget the 10 bucks a month. If you make 2-3 chars on one account you will gimp one of them since the EP (yourcurrency for char building) you get/spend is for whole account and you will have to divide it.

The game rewards people doing boring repetitive chores like mining harvesting drving a truck (no risk whatsoever) and severely punishes people going out exploring killing stuff once you die to a respawn or some bug and lose your bot and everything in it you will understand( and yea i know about insurance but you insure a 3m bot with 5 ml worth of equip in it for 1.5 m). So just be prepared to have several accounts if you want a good corp tio have you and do hours and hours of mind numbing crap not unlike your real life

  • jairusjairus Member UncommonPosts: 175

the game is a 5/10 at best.

the game is filled with very little content which you can blow through in about a month, people are already crafting the highest level mechs and using them. ( the ones who started with 50k EP )

going into the PvP islands is a must for almost all the latter assignments. in other words you are forced into pvp with the big corps( missions, quests, whatever you want to call them )

you must have more then one account if you plan on not being bored out of your mind.

EP is per account. 1 EP per min. as long as you have an active account you get EP. ( you don't have to play at all to get stronger pay 70$, come back in a year and you'll be able to use all the best stuff.)

if your a crafter.. all the best stuff , higher factories / high level ores are all in the PvP islands.

pvp.. whoever has the biggest zerg and the most alt accounts, wins.

other then that the game is so, so. but should get better with time. so its good to keep an active account even if you don't plan on playing right now, so you can be maxed out when you feel like its worth playing :P

"the game is filled with very little content which you can blow through in about a month, people are already crafting the highest level mechs and using them. ( the ones who started with 50k EP )"

Completely untrue, not a single person has started crafting heavy mechs, mechs are only just starting to pop out and only for 1 faction.

"you must have more then one account if you plan on not being bored out of your mind."

I only have 1 account, ive been in the game since early releasy and im definitely not bored.

"EP is per account. 1 EP per min. as long as you have an active account you get EP. ( you don't have to play at all to get stronger pay 70$, come back in a year and you'll be able to use all the best stuff.)"

Only half true since EP is only half of your progression, wealth is just as important and an inactive account will accumulate no wealth.

"pvp.. whoever has the biggest zerg and the most alt accounts, wins."

What PVP engagements have you been in? Me and my corp have found ourselves outnumbered many times but because of better use of the terrain, better formation, and knowing which targets go down first we have come out on top.

also forgot. Even at lvl 7.0+ relation., there are very few assignments ( in each category ) for you to do. so plan on doing the same ones over and over and over......... an after level 3.0 relation you better be ready for PvP if you want to keep moving on. because low level assignment stop giving you relation.

i'm not bashing the game even if some may see it like that but all this misinformation about this game is sicking.

i really do like this game only because it is open pvp and my zerg can pretty much do what we want without anyone stopping us.. we are well established on the beta island and if you come into our area without an equal zerg you are pretty much dead.

one more thing i would like to add. that the server is hosted in Hungary and lag is an issue atm. The GMs / DEVs ( who are very active ) know this and will replace your mechs if lost to lag and have been working on improving this ( thier main goal atm it to improve the servers). average ping to someone in the US would be over 100 in the 130-200 range. with crazy spikes every now and then.

there is also no petition system so if you do need help with something you have to wait till a dev / gm is available but they are on almost every day, are very active, and very helpful.

if you must know my two accounts are in two different corps, and there will be a time when i decide which one i like better, but right now is not the time.

Its true though.  We charged at a group of larger numbers with more assaults than us THROUGH a bottleneck and they all docked up.  They left someone to die that had just recently undocked and couldnt dock again.

Yes they will zerg if they have way more numbers, but they certainly are hardly ever prepared at a moments notice when a reasonably sized group comes around.  You can quite easily roam around the island without worry if you know what you're doing.

You wont see much if your docked up all the time.
