Personally it's a mixed bag for me... I like the Tabula Rasa combat, hate the revolutionary war combat where people stand around shooting at eachother.
And with that EarthRise is officially removed from my list. That's the combat revamp? Setting the combat to 300% speed and calling it a day? It looks terrible. I have no problem if you want to make your mmo have tab target combat, I have no issue with fps combat but god damn this hybrid shit. Sorry no deal.
I was quite dissapointed, to say the least. For now it's off my radar, once it goes into open beta I might check it out and see how much they've changed.
I for one was pretty disappointed. I have been keeping my eye on this game for a while now and I thought the video was terrible.
The animations were all dreadful, the character seemed to not be on the ground when running, and the combat seemed really boring. I was expecting so much more. They may have done themselves a huge disservice by releasing this video now.
I am not nearly as interested as I was before. Let's hope they are long from being finished with the game.
Idk, I saw nothing wrong with it really. The fact that the video software did not allow them to record the reticle means a lot. I am not going to pass judgement until i see what the reticle is doing and also until I try it myself.
There is no tab targeting, lets all say this together there is no tab targeting.
This is from the CEO of MHS in other words Ostiak or Atanas:
The TAB key in Earthrise is used by default for switching between free cursor mode and FPS mode.
Yes you can.. look at the target running at the player and the targeting just moves with the enemy. It stays right on him as tab targeting would.
The targeting moves with the enemy because the player is aiming at the enemy like in FPS games. We agree it is hard to see in the video, but hopefully all of you will get to try the game and judge for themselves.
Animations do 'not' look great, but remind me of the very stiff, non-fluid animations I saw of Xsyon 6months ago.
Game-play does 'not' look great, but clunky.
Graphics do 'not' look great, but I am assuming they were 'low' resolution.
Environments do 'not' look great, but sterile, greatly underdeveloped.
Granted this was a very brief look/view, but if it's their best representation at this point in time, I could understand if they need another year to really make game-play, mechanics, environments, and overall coding more robust, clean, polished, smooth, etc. It is still in-development, and by the looks of it, is not going to garner a premium interest, yet.
i wouldve liked to see characters moving around in more structures like the ones in the far bacjground. most of the actual terrain they were running on were large, open, and flat. noy much going on in the ground terrain detail dept. hopefully it was on a low graphics setting but that wouldnt make very much sense considering how much ppl have been looking forward to seeing some actual footage.
i was a little let down, but we also only saw combat and some running around. id like to see a crafting video.
Developers really need to learn from the MOST popular MMORPG (WoW) ever and really POLISH UP THE ANIMATIONS in their games if they want them to be REALLY succesful.
This game looks to have lots of work done, but if animations stay this way, with this jerkiness and completely missing bits and pieces, I don't see myself picking it up, like I didn't LOTR Online, even though I LOVE Tolkien lore and world and just about everything about it.
I feel that many people think the same way, probably most of them not even realizing it.
If you want to immerse yourself in another universe, BE that person inside that game, you must move and do things fluidly, never having something breaking that immersion, stopping things, like bad animations do (or lag).
Looks like the only MMORPG left on my radar is ArcheAge (god, what a silly name).

From what I could tell from this footage is that they have selected the open areas to show off the space in the game, as opposed to the original video footage (2009) that was more closed in. I do note that a lot of the stuff does not look as pretty as many of the earlier shots a year ago, suggesting the project may have lost some art budget (as many MMOs do in their development... older gamers can remember the original WoW shots before release). Another problem they may have faced is graphics processing problems with the open areas (such as AoC has in some open areas) so they have lowered the graphics for those areas to make sure it runs smooth for testing purposes.
Ultimately I agree with you on all your points, while originally the graphics looked promising, they are letting themselves down in this video.
That combat looks like poop, the terrain is really really flat, they need to do something about that. This games still has some aesthetic appeal though, but really I wouldn't touch it unless they fixed the combat.

That was no one's complaint, people are complaining that combat looks boring and slow, not about TAB targeting.

NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
Looks good to me...like an updated anarchy online......im all over it! when does it come out?
I do agree that more obstacles in the environment would be good though

Hmmm. I am holding my judgement and hoping for the best.
Talking bout the issues..and keepin it funky.
