I've got everything except Jade Empire, and it's all been good so far. Dark Ages got a little long towards the end, but it was still a good game with a good plot. I've got a lot of faith in Bioware, although I am disappointed in the way they set up space for SWTOR. Yes it's an RPG experience, but this is Star Wars, and you need to do space right. A single player on rails thing isn't it. However I have no doubt I will enjoy the game and I'm looking forward to the PvP as well as the story.

If Bioware really is setting up SWTOR as KOTOR3(ish) then the space part makes sense.

Last I checked, KOTOR1-2 didn't have any space stuff like X3/Freelancer/Tie Fighter. KOTOR1 had a stupid turret thing but that was on rails.

More than Lucas Arts.....Cutting actors out of finished iconic films shows no respect to even their own brand.......You'll see when all your requests fall on deaf ears.....

I keep an open mind about TOR, I know Bioware have some really talented people but I am not sure if their style will work for a MMO or not.

This pretty much sums it up for me as well.

I want to get excited about this game but simply cannot because I'm not so sure Bioware's style will transfer over to the MMO genre well.

I don't want a single player RPG wrapped in an MMO wrapper.

The devs once described is as KOTOR3-4-5-6-7-8 etc

Bioware wont be the problem once the game releases, the problem will be Lucas and getting the OK to make changes.

I have faith in Bioware. I'm pretty sure they realize the differences between MMO's and Single Player RPG's. So far it all looks good. Not perfect because..what i believe is perfect simply isn't possible yet :)

I know it is really 'hip' to rag on EA (and back in Origins/Bullfrog 'buy and kill' days they deserved it) but if you look at the last few years they have done some really good stuff.

Need For Speed franchise is back on track (no pun intended)

Cancelled NBA Elite cause it was terrible (rather than ship and patch it later)

Mirrors Edge might have had flaws but it was a brand new concept that they ran with, with fairly large support for a new IP too.

Let Bioware do its thing and ship Mass Effect1/2 and Dragon Age. They didn't back out on the ME 'side boob' hoax thing, nor did they back out on the variety of mating preference chars in Dragon Age (cough Leliana/Zervran cough)

You are correct, I don't, which is why I will try it before making my final decision.

I'm just not excited about the game and to be honest, it's down the list 4-5 games of the ones I want to try next year.

I truly hope it is successful, it's just not really looking like something I'd be interested in long term from what I have seen so far.

I like bioware but I have no faith at all they will deliver something I will play. I love the star wars franchise, love mmos, hate the direction they took the game in.

Everything I have seen/read so far makes it seem like it is going to be a carbon copy of WoW with different lore/character model/setting. And of course the ridiculous amount of voice over. Battle grounds type pvp, linear character development, similar looking graphics. Boo hiss on them.

total faith, i love their games, all of em. i love what they are doing with it. ive always imagined this but now its gonna be reality. finnaly something that will be fun and exciting unlike wow and all those others.

    [object Window]

bioware doesnt need any wow fanbois. they have their own fanbois and im one of them.

    [object Window]

    also mass effect 3 ftw!

    Carbon copy of wow

Battleground type pvp: There is also open world pvp they have been talking about. So this is just one option

Linear character development: seperates at level 20 i believe to two seperate class, not really clasless but you do get some choices

similar looking graphics: Yep and a tons of artist copy other people style. Quite a few used pointalism, it's down to how well they utilize this art style.

Your entitled to your opinion but i thought i just provide some extra added insight.

I'm still hyped on this game. Looks like exactly what i've been looking for.

if you wish to state you don't like the game, then so be it. But theres too many differences for it to be a carbon copy.  If you want i can tell you but i'd prefer to let you see for yourself at their offical website. www.swtor.com

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Honestly, not much, I personally have the feeling SWToR will just be another wannabe wow that will fall far short of the polish and gameplay wow has. I'm looking forward to rift myself, it actually sounds a bit interesting compared to most other mmo's coming out in 2011.

"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

People who havent even seen or played this game who make broad assumtions about SWTOR make me laugh my ass off. I think everyone needs to wait and see what the game is like at release before saying they arent going to play this or its just a WoW clone. From what I hear, its anything but a WoW clone.

hmm let me state the features of ToR:

Crafting: Giving orders to your companions to gather materials or bringing them along as either the gather and you protect them or you gather and they protect you.

Companion: which can help you but also have their motives and opinions on things as well that at times will come up during dialog scenes to either alter or in some cases completely reverse the way you expect the dialog to go.

Cover system: which allows enemies to avoid your attack by going behind objects out of your line of sight (edit: There is no auto attack so you'll have to move to hit them). On the other side it allows you to duck behind rocks and barriers for different skills and much higher defense.

Off line crafting: you can have your companions do the crafting while your offline, you can also send your companions on mission to gather materials for you.  You can also talk to them via communications to do orders for you without having to return to your ship

Questing: When you begin a story you can control and alter the story depending on how you'd like it to proceed.  You can bring others into the story (companions and PCs) to again alter how the quest runs.  You can also contact your mission giver via a comm system instead of having to run back.

Combat: Tank is ranged instead of close combat which means he'll have to hold aggro while also keeping his distance from a mob (speculation on this one but i wouldn't be surprised if it happens)

Seamless world: they've stated unless your going to another planet or into space, that you'll never see a loading screen.

It sounds more like it took a couple of features from every game and then added a few of their own, more so then trying to copy wow itself.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

how much faith do you have in mythic?

ANY time a studio is absorbed by EA its only a matter of a few years before its staff is "folded back into the group" after EA takes away all their operating capital.  Hell they already did it once with Bioware.  I almost forgot about that.  When they bought the company, it was called "Bioware Pandemic" after they merged with Pandemic Studios.

although every time you bring it up, no matter what company you talk about that they have absorbed, somehow, that company is always the exception in the discussion.

TOR will suck as much as WAR did.  It will just have better graphics.

    Games i'm playing right now...

Everytime a game comes up that tries to be unique a person will come along and judge the game before it is released. I guess it's just the nature of things.

I lost my trust of companys a while back. That's why I get in the beta of the few I'm interested in.Then I only believe what I see...not the promises .It's saved me a bit O money already.

  • whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Agreed my trust is more so in the game itself then the company.  Regardless of what people might say, what i see is something i'd like to play. So for now i'm watching this one closer then any other.
