black prophecy will be just like vindictus.....instance based and kinda short lived type gameplay....ill admit im looking forward to it whenever it gets here (who really knows) but for it lasting for more than a year without losing its appeal will surely happen....for eve...it wont lose playerbase and probably will increase little by little....but like someone said in previous pages...bp is for people that want pvp like a fps but in ships...
I have a hard time bucking my integrity long enough to choose between a game that exists in a launched, playable state, and one that doesn't.
Being a more fighter based game, my initial thought would be that BP would be my preference. But there's a remarkably good chance that when I get the opportunity to play it, that opinion will change, drastically.
Kinda like when I thought AoC would likely be my game of choice over LotRO.
i have never played eve so i can tell you it SUCKS...
just kidding...i did play thru a 14 day trail and loved the graphics and open space adventure, but Fallen Earth came out and i dove into it (like a lemming off a cliff). I told myself that i would try eve again, but haven't done so yet...kinda hoping we would see an Eve II one day and i could get in on day 1. I'd love to play an open space game, but like many others, i would like to get out of my ship and walk around on different planets. Unfortunately, that day may be a long time off. Imagine how much system resources would be required for space travel, space battle, infinate space AND the world to world experiences required...all in 3-D with wrap-monitor technolgoy. It would take a billion dollar team of devs 10 years to create that game and by the time they were done, the technology would be outdated...
I didn't find eve appealing. It was slow, there was no action, nothing. Yes, there is the human interaction, scamming is legal and blablabla. But you know what? I have enough of that in real life.
I've read that some people spent months of playing, to get into a corp and become a director, just to strip it clean. Remember that south park guitar hero episode? "Congratulations, you are a NERD!"
But people play it, they think they are cool, they've spent months planning their character, earning isk, getting to know the game better and better. And then, they think that they are H A R D C O R E, they got isk, got power, got relations, got knowledge of E V E. And I don't give a fuck.
These people hate WoW players, coz its simple game which involves lots of clicking. And eve is, ofcourse, superhardcore mindblowing game, wow hase no consequences, you die, you ressurect, you get epicz, you dont give a fuck e.g. "eve >>> wow" etc. But for the same reason WoW has so many subscribers.
Eve "combat"... Epic battles of chewing popcorn and reading some magazine, while ships try to blow each other for 10 minutes. Having fun? O'RLY? Making eve a sci-fi game just to make it look big (huge universe, ships, planets etc) sucked. "Bridge! Fire the lazors, engines full power and a cup of coffee to keep myself awake for 10 minutes" says a captain of a 4 module ship with 8 guns of the same type. Thats the sci-fi?! Are you kidding? You cant target subsystems, afterburner takes a whole module slot, no boarding ships, no skill. Watch Legend of Galactic Heroes, thats sci-fi. Coz eve is a perverted joke, worshipped by thousands of zealots.
Freelancer, freespace, homeworld, O.R.B., and others, if BP is going inherit any of their features its going to be a success. Eve had none of them, and seeing BP compared to a joke like eve makes panda sad.
There's one thing I hope for. That BP is going to become nothing like eve. Player-driven economics is fine, polotics is fine, everything else should die with eve.
p.s. habbo hotel with a few tweaks could become eve.
Wow, someone got butthurt... First of all, yes scamming is legal, corporate theft is possible, all those things give the game a lot more depth than someone closedminded as you can imagine. The game is hard, people have to stick toghether, trust eachother and get to know who they are flying with. You mentioned Wow, you seriously think that if a game has a large number of subscribers it`s also fun for everyone ? Imagine wow without the themepark crap and imagine that people loose their wellfare epics when they die. Imagine a WoW game where the endgame is not bashing the same damn npc for months but fighting as a part of a well organized fleet with hundreds on your side, against hundreds of other players. Too hardcore for you?
Combat may seem boring to you, EVE is not a shooter nor a mmo where you spam fireball, its more about choosing the right ship for the right job, setting it up properly and learning to be effective in it. Imagine that each different ship is like a different "class" (healer, tank, dps, etc). There are A LOT of things you can fly with an immense variety of setups. Tactics play a major role in every fight.
You can manufacture things, mine, invent new, more potent items, you can build your own station, you can extract resources from planets, or you can just live by playing the market, buying cheap/selling high, whatever.
Eve is what you make it. If you got butthurt and emorage/quit after your first days in the game, dont come here and bash it. You didnt even scrached the surface of the game, There are players who play for 4-5 years and still consider themselves noobs.
But then again, im glad you didnt like it. Keeps the garbage out.
I don't understand why some people are compelled to compare 2 things (I suspect it's a disfunction).
Other than that, why do they compare 2 very DIFFERENT things (This one I suspect it's stupidity)?
What do EVE and BP have in common? THEY ARE BOTH IN SPACE!
Its natural to compare something new to something known to discerrn if a change is in order.
I don't think the two are as different as you're making them out to be (this is not hello kitty vs dark fall.
Can't address your last point as I've not read much about BP, perhaps not too much.
But if they both have ships, both have some sort of trading economy, both have PVP, and are sanbox style games then of course people will compare what is common and contrast the differences.

Actually i meant the whole topic, im in closed beta mysefl but i wont comment. Its not out yet, so til they release the question cant be answered unless you love to speculate or break the nda assuming that all goes live as it is.
EvE is for me best MMO since I find out it exist. I mean I didnt play it for few years - I just thought its best. EvE can give you so many ways of playing that there is only few other mmos where you can do that. Yea now I play it and now I think EvE is even way cooler than other games. Its mostly because how CCP cares about game. I think they do best on market from this point of view and thats why EvE is so amazing.
I'm ply going to try BP but I dont think it will hold me long, Its just shame that Star Trek online is not more like EvE, with planet walking and stuff I would live it. Especialy Star Trek universe..
Played: Lineage 2,Guild Wars 1 and 2, Age of Conan, Ragnarok Online, LOTRO, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, EvE online Tried: KAL Online, Face of Mankind, ROSE online Playing: CS:GO
eves a sandbox mmorpg and BP is a FPS thats just point and click atleast thats the feeling I get from the mouse controller who cant just hover the mouse pointer and over there target and hold the fire button
and while I like FPS they never stay on my computer for more then 1 week at a time, eves never left.
What a stupid thread this is. BP is an action FPS space game with practically zero RPG elements in it hence it being F2P. Eve on the other hand is a fully developed point and click (shitty combat) MMORPG that can actually charge because there is a ton of content in it.
How the 2 are comparable is beyond me. Oh I get it - they both have stars instead of hills and grass .... Lame thread.
First off, the two games are very different so it is difficult to say one is better than the other. But I'm actually one of the people for whom it is a valid question, because each game has things I like (and would like to see in the other one).
EVE: Huge, persistent world with all levels of difficulty, from pretty safe newbie area to free-for-all PVP in unpoliced space. Plus pretty lifelike politics and economy that are allowed by the large playerbase (300k all on one unsharded server). An almost perfect sandbox game with only a few weaknesses like sucky PvE.
I played EVE for quite a while, and right now only RL issues like not enough time for 0.0 warfare keeep me from resubbing.
Black Prophecy: Actually flying your ship instead "click&point". Actually flying your ship. Actually flying your ship. In all other things BP is likely to be weak compared to EVE. Or no competition at all. But the sheer fun of fighting in Freelancer style instead of waiting for the ship to execute my commands is reason enough to try it.
In related news, Jump Gate Evolution as originally planned might have been perfect. But then, it got nerfed to a mostly action game like Black Prophecy, and now it seems to be dead. Codemasters have sued NetDevil/Gazillion over not delivering.
yeah i saw that i wonted to try jumpgate E to me jump gate E look realy fun so i;ll try Bp in stead from what i under stand its instants? cuz i like to sink in to a good game till old republic come out : ) and guild wars 2 thats just me iam sure other are waitng on other games too : ) i tryed eve online once i gess it was to complex for me or not sure now that i saw some changes if any one like to tell me to give it a try agin if its worth trying agin : ) thx
I'm just going to skip happily over the flames of this thread so far and say that I'll probably play both. I did just resub to EVE after about 6 months off, mostly so I can see Incarna and also check on the Sansha PvE stuff.
I think one of the things I will probably like about BP if it's done well is a bit of direction and a game a little more suitable to casual play. One of the videos showed something that looked like tournament style PvP matches, and also Team missions.
Jumping back into EVE has really reminded me how much of a commitment it is and how little help the game itself gives you in making fun. You really do have to make your own and whilst that is a strong point of EVE, it's also a weakness sometimes depending on your energy levels. (or mine after a hard days work anyway)
EVE pvp combat can actually be incredibly intense and highly memorable, but that is the reward for a great deal of time spent not doing anything terribly exciting 90% of the time.
I continue to remain perplexed at why EVE doesn't create the in game mechanics to allow people to enter something like the Alliance Tournaments all year around, instead of just making them available for 99% of the EVE player base to watch on Youtube. I guess they are worried the game will become just a big stadium.
BP's combat definitely looks more appealing to me right now... but honestly who knows based on a few videos and the website.

There is the test server, Singularity. Account data from Tranquility get copied over every few weeks, so if you have a well established regular character, you can play it on Singularity. Most items cost only 100 credits on Singularity, so you can buy new ships cheaply after losing a fight.
It requires a bit of fiddling with your setup, but I'm sure you can find a tutorial somewhere on the EVE forums...

hard core sand box game or fps shooter oh yeah there the same.
I am going to stick with eve and my 1000 man battles or as of saturday 3400 and the lag wasnt that bad.
Eve may be quiet at times but when it heats up the action is more intense then any game out there, beacue it hurts when you loose.
If BP had any type od meaniful death penalty and was more of a sandbox game I would be game, but its just going to be medal of honor in space
This should have been Jumpgate vs Black prophecy which one would you like to play more. I know what my money would be on
This.
Jumpgate Evo = LOL they havent updated or had a news article out in nearly a year......
I wouldn't consider 10 mins and more of delay "not bad".
i have never played eve so i can tell you it SUCKS...

Have fun playing with your pokemons
eve is more strategy, bp is more shooter so i don't think you can really compare the two that well other than by visuals
also still don't know what the cash shop in bp will be like
ultimately i would like to play eve with a more shooter/twitch based combat(as others have already said)
Definitely Eve, and from what I've seen I would also choose Jumpgate: Evolution over Black Prophecy.
I don't understand why some people are compelled to compare 2 things (I suspect it's a disfunction).

I love EVE. great game. But I like to FLY things, not point and click. BP all the way baby..
BP does not have enough substance to hold a candle light to Eve. Its just an arcade space game that will satisfy the fast pacedness we all crave.
This is not a game.
What game do you like more? The one you could play actually ore the one you couldnt play yet.
Pi*1337/100 = 42
don't know if you meant me, but, I'm now in the CB for BP, so I'll be playing in just a few hours
