    I couldn't agree more.

Your tag says you're looking forward to Tera, yet you somehow have no problem agreeing with this statement?  That's truly priceless.

That being said, Rift is far from generic and has plenty of gameplay features to help distinguish it.  Or you can just ignorantly judge it based on a video.  Whatever floats ur boat.

I would say he is right. Rift = generic, Tera = non generic awesomesauce.

Perhaps you could enlighten us.  What, exactly, does Tera have that will make it stand out from all of the other fantasy games out there?

We can start with the combat and political system. Anyhow, not to defend it, Rift has to be the most generic game coming out in 2011.

Interesting game mechanics (though most players will hate the combat), but none of this makes it non-generic-fantasy.

Most generic?  Right, because ALL games are centered around mass amounts of dynamic content.  Good to know.

Yeah, because all I know about Rift comes from those two shockingly bad videos...

I'm looking forward to TERA for one reason and one reason alone - the combat system.  Everything else about it leaves me completely meh.

I have come to absolutely detest High-Fantasy and Rift is about as generic High-Fantasy as it gets.  You can blether on about Rift being some kind of innovative saviour of the MMORPG genre all you want pal, it doesn't make it fact.

    Playing: EVE Online
Played (retired): Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Age of Conan.
Awaiting: Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World.

    One boring game Rift is.

People who "look forward to TERA because of the combat system" yet never played Chronicles of Spellborn (best combat system in an MMO period) don't know the first thing about MMOs (outside of WoW) and should be summarily dismissed.

If combat was that important to you as you claim, where were you when Spellborn launched?

The Guardian Video has been updated with a new version with a different voice over. What do you think?

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The new voice over for the Guardians is MUCH better now

Why are both videos entirely in slow-mo? To disguise terrible animations?

    Everyone on this site:
1: MMORPGs are DOOMED, and I have the answers to save them!
2: THIS game's gonna kill WoW!
3: I wish things would go back to the Golden Age of MMORPGs, which only existed in my mind...

  • drake_hounddrake_hound Member Posts: 773

Well both voice over seems ok , but for defiant one i would definetly use a beter action scenes or dramatic scenes of being crushed ,

The guardian one cinematics are good with the voice over , the defiant one the drama part cinematic could be beter.

    Thats my 2 cents .

  • drake_hounddrake_hound Member Posts: 773

Whats the point of that discussion ?

If people want to see it generic , they can point to wow .

If people want another fantasy genre but with more options thats what Rift Offers.

That people dont want to see innovations , well seems 6 million western players dont want that either .

Sorry if you are burned out of the genre , there is nothing fantasy can do at this moment .

But is rift innovative in my eyes , and i am burned out fantasy player ...

Yes it is , for different reason then most here bash or compliment it .

If its not your cup of tea , no matter how much milk or sugar you put into it , it still has the tea taste .

Voice over still sounds horrible for the Guardians, sounds like a highschool drama club member trying too hard; voice would be better fitted to a ninja turtle. I can see the attempt to capture a valourous tone but there needs to be more wisdom, a voice more humanesque and used to professing, like a true king or sage.

  • PurpleCliffPurpleCliff Member UncommonPosts: 156

I preferred the first voice over. If I'm gonna play a fantasy war game where there's some massive **** goin' down, I want to hear the actors screaming with raw emotion, even if it's a little cheesy.

I don't really care though, this is one minute of play time ...

Being a not mentally challenged (it is not about you, it is about me), I would reserve such a aggressive defending of my point (which actually based on nothing, you didn't even played any of 2 betas, as you said) till the time you actually will be able to judge this game by something more than voice over.

And what about Tera? Does it's video have a good voice over?

Would you say something smart about it?

Sigh..yet another thread degenerates into childishness and my game is better than your game irrelevancy...

One thing I will say about Trion is there ability to listen and respond to their community, and the feedback coming in from the two recent events and make changes based on that. I have seen many companies who fail so terribly at this and its a breath of fresh air in that respect alone.

Whether Rift floats your boat or not I really couldn't care less, but I do give props to the Dev team, GM's and Community Managers at Trion.

Tera Trolls... hmmph. I've played Korean developed games before with LoS combat and dodging that most of the time is dodgy and slow. Welcome home gold fammas. I'll never play them again. Enjoy its released this month... in South Korea.

If you're not too closed minded as to what Tera is:

Funny I used to think that these both were the same game.

I though the name of the game was Rift: Planes of Tera.

    Seems I was wrong.

Tera is the one with that badger looking character...rift is the one with the..well, same ol' characters.

Not promoting or demoting either, just thought it was funny.
