Personally I thought the combat was static, boring and pretty much a bag of pants..
There were no tactics by the players beyond surrounding the Risars for the time worn ground n pound. The Risar didn't try to flank or do anything much beyond heading over to someone who managed to draw agro once or twice.
This is supposed to be manual aim and dynamic combat.. Looked no different than standing there toe to toe with the standard MMO auto aim having a DPS race to zero health.
This game needs at least a year before it comes close to being ready, assuming of course it can survive that long..
And before the fanboi's start, yes I have played a lot of this game from Beta block "B" and beyond into live so don't go there !

Yeah... I recently experienced a GM event in a game that is in beta... man it was on a scale several orders of magnitude greater than this. That is no exageration either. Hopefully they will be releasing footage of it soon!

Good for you. Now provide some screenshots, link to proper thread, youtube vid, anything to prove you are not pulling this out of thin air.
Oh come on! I'm sure you can do better! You awesomly dig info about game you didn't played for months and can't provide some about some about event you participated in, in game you currently play?
THIS was a GM spawned event... all of those crossed swords indicate an invasion force. The Green swirls are RIFTS opened up from the plane of life where the invaders come through. The shields are towns/outposts that have been taken over by the invaders.
This wasn't a dozen mobs spawned and left. This... as I said.. was serveral orders of magnitude greater with something around 20 RIFTS... 30 invading groups... multiple towns under attack. Elite boss mobs... Scripted encounters... All against an actual story backdrop (as in.. it made sense and had a purpose). And it's just a BETA game.

Wasent that epic tbh secomd sure Rift has been a really smooth beta bug wise but ofc it is most of the programmers have YEARS of experience they came from EQ,EQ2 Vanguard and other projects and trion ave a big budget so stop comparing BETAS like that.

More than that, it's the only thing that larger studios will develop - yet ANOTHER class-based PvE themepark game. Because, we need more of those....
And, while some of that looks pretty interesting, there are those are are already bailing out on RIFT after the events you describe:
"After playing both beta events, myself and my whole guild from many games have decided Rift is not a game worth playing. I know many will say, you ve barely seen what the game has to offer, but I ve been one to decide on a game, based on early experiences. I find Rift to be boring and I just don t care to log in. Out of the 50+ members from our guild only 1 is going to continue at launch. It s too bad because we were hoping it could be the game. That said maybe one day it will feel better and i ll want to log in, but as of now it s got no appeal to us at all "
Hopefully it will do well, but the comparison really doesn't hold water here. Fantasy sandbox "virtual world" style games are a small niche, and as such, are rarely developed. Rift certainly isn't one, and though it might be a fine game of its type, if you're looking for a sandbox game experience, it's not going to provide it.
Mortal Online does. As has been said over and over, it's not perfect, and still needs work, but it is improving, and does provide a sandbox experience that's slowly but surely getting better. Rift will never provide that type of experience.
In my opinion, all games could use more of the GM involved events as discussed in either Mortal Online, or Rift. Personally biases seem to get involved when bashing one while exalting the other.
Again.. this was not a comparison of game types... simply a demonstration of a GM spawned EVent that was several orders of magnitude greater than the one being discussed. Feel free to use the RIFT forums to discuss it's deficiencies!

Game types is certainly germain to the discussion.
Great GM events in an overall type of game that a person does not like is probably not going to be enough of a draw to have them start playing, or keep them playing.
In GM events of the type being discussed, the basic type of game makes a huge difference. My discussion of Rift - which you brought into the thread in the first place for comparison - is to point out that it's not the same type of game as Mortal Online.

It was brought up as an example of a much greater GM Event. The basic gametype makes ZERO difference... none at all.
I agree that it's not the same TYPE of game as Mortal Online (in many... MANY ways). There is no reason that such an event could not occur in a sandbox game... as I said previously.. Shadowbane and UO were the first two games I experienced events such as this. If you prefer to have a dozen NPCS spawn and stand still while you form a circle around them and stab them to death... more power to you. That isn't a defining function of a sandbox game though... and a sandbox doen't mean that there can't be widescale GM Events like those detailed in the link.
If you would like to discuss different gametype let's make a new thread. If you would like to compare the actual EVENTS.. feel free!

Actually, this is a thread discussing the particulars of the Mortal Online GM event, not a thread that asked to compare and contrast all GM events from any game. If you wish to talk about the MO event, please do so.
If you wish to talk about the RIFT event, please do so on that forum. If you wish to talk about GM events in general, that probably belongs in the General forums (i.e. The Pub).

No, that's the way to take a thread entitled "Risars invading Cave Camp - great GM Event!" off-topic. What do Risars have to do with RIFT?
More on-topic, the patch notes today mention:
- Reports of increased Risar activity, troops apparently heading from Herabalter towards Gabaria.
Looks like the topic of this thread might be a precursor to an overall in-game storyline that is unfolding. Pretty cool - should be interesting to see what happens next.

It doesn't look like everyone shares the enthusiasm for the RIFT events, if they find them boring enough to leave now.
RIFT is just more of the same. It is not a fantasy sandbox like Mortal Online.
How original, two-faction based PvP. *YAAAWWWNNNN* It is not FFA, or full-loot, like Mortal Online.
Seriously, does the PvP described here sound familiar to anyone else:
