What I don't understand is how people would rather stare at the ass of some dude for 40+ hours a week in-game. I guess it's different if they make their characters out to look as much it possibly can get to themselves, but then that's a whole other can of worms. If I had the choice, I'd stare at T&A as a profession.
excatly, i think most people make their character to represent themselves wich is bizarre at the start on ROLE playing games anyway it sholdnt matter wich sex you chose and its up to you if you get some kicks later on ingame by pretending to be that sex in real life aswell , but simply for the staring reasons i quite often make female character.
I'm a guy...and I play female characters once in awhile. It has nothing to do with looking at a sexy animated butt. It's just to do something different.
When I play females, I usually pick the ugliest race there is...trolls, ogres, orcs, etc...cuz there are very few of those type of characters.
Seriously....I don't get the whole "I want to look at a sexy butt" thing....it's a freeking computer generated, clothing covered, pixelated rear end. I just don't see much "hotness" in that.
But hey....we're all different and that's what makes this world great.

Hehe...well, playing a male character in EQ doesn't equate to gay porn where I live...but okay. If that's where your coming from in creating a character in an MMO....go for it.
I don't fault anyone for playing what they want and how they want. They're spending the cash so whatever. I just think some people always feel the need to justify things in the most bizarre ways.

But, trying to get any kind of compesation (in any way) by pretending and decieving with appeal in game (and gender of game char is part of that) is serious matter (from psychological aspect) and its unfortunatelly very spreaded in MMO world.

I'm perfectly fine with guys playing female characters, as long as you're not trying to fool anybody as to your real gender for advantages.
Unless you get at LEAST a free computer. Once a scam hits a certain amount of money, it's just comedy gold. Pretending to be RL female to get a magic sword in game? Lame and pathetic. Getting somebody to pay your rent for 6 months? Now I can enjoy some real schadenfreude!

I tell people I'm a male, which most female characters really are. I've met a guildie who was female and played a Male Blood elf character, really there is no issue.
But if you go around as a male, pretending to actually be a female in real life, that is an issue.

I can definitely say they're real. The best scammers are NEVER caught. It's amazing what you can do with 'dropped calls', talking in a female-impersonator voice, using voice filters, getting a girl to play along... and so on. Even easier if you 'oh, my mike is broken' 'I'm shy, I don't like to talk to guys', and a surprisingly common excuse for impersonators... 'I was raped by a guy so I don't feel comfortable letting any get close' (Except you can send a computer to my PO Box, that's cool!). People can totally be evil! Of course, it's because it's sooooo easy.
Online people are sometimes so desperate it hangs off of them like a stench filled cloud. Especially in any sort of place that purports to be social... which MMOs qualify as, as much social networking as game.

Welll... there are guys who really wish they were women RL (People with gender identity disorder), and women who wish they were guys. If they want to play in a game like that, it doesn't really bother me... (Though it'd probably work better for everybody concerned if they admitted what's going on, sometimes that can be awkward I suppose) it just gets weird for me when they use it to get advantages. That's just creepy.
i have also one example to share the power of female character in early mmo days back in 90s.
in this game i had female character , random people usually male characters came to me and give free stuff just gfor the sake they believed i was female out of pixelated form i didnt use general chats or anyhting i was doing my own stuff with freinds in peace but it affect the way i was just being that sex and i got loads of stuff, some friends played male chars and they usually got unfriendly behavior rather than overfriendly , but then again that was back then, things are more different now

I honestly never really understood why it matters what gender the avatar is in these type of games. At the end of the day it's just more art isn't it?
As someone stated above, folk's actions can be swayed by the sex of the avatar but I have never been one of those people. I can only understand it academically, not actually.
