It made me lol, and I think it is a harmless fun. Don't think Blizzard will be agitated or anything about it. Rift and WOW just have different target audiences. WOW is a more easygoing game. Slow respawn and as long as you play normal, you are always in a comfort zone. Rift on the other hand is a DANGEROUS world. Rifts can pop up any time and inferno can break loose, consuming your quest cities and your entire world, if you don't be alert. Rift is danger and challange on a whole new level. Whether or not people like it is something else, but Trion did accomplish something great with that dynamic and dangerous world in a way, we haven't seen before.

It may just be that people like their worlds less challanging. Something I have said for years, btw.

Oh they know he's there, the question is do they CARE?

Meh bad move on Trions part.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Way to flat out say who your biggest competition will be in your own trailer. Does nothing but promote a false sense of battle between the two games. I can be a really good game and still will be nothing out of WoW's pocket.

Everyone wants to be the next WoW killer, make your own stuff, carve out your own player base and be happy I say.

Well they should with the money they gotten from cataclysme alone , they should have done more with the income they recieved over 6 years .

But its allright you keep on playing , each there own and each there way .

Keep paying uncle blizz no harm done , just some of us want some serious competition in MMO market .

Competition breeds innovation or improvements .

Like many said maybe rift wont keep there subscribers , but my money is already on SWTOR .

I agree some serious competition would be welcome.

My money is you and I won't see a MMO ever compete with WoW's money.

A good game or two may come with time, but there probably won't ever be another hit like World of Warcraft.

Hell, Blizzard's next MMO probably nose dive's because it can't live up to the hype.

Trion has along ways to go before they start talking smack with Blizz is all.

There is only one opinion that matters.

I agree with Elikal I thought it was funny.  I also get a laugh out of all the butt-hurt people jumping in here with their "nuh-uh" posts.

People said WoW and WAR didn't compete either when they launched. People insisted for years that WoW and LOTRO don't compete.

They really arn't that different. Not compared to Starcraft two and Dawn of War two, two EXTREMELY different RTS titles. You would think that they woulden't effect eachother right? When Starcraft two came out the DOW population took a nose dive and still hasn't recovered.

Eve and WoW might not compete but all $15 a month fantasy games with similar to WoW gameplay and mechanics certainly do compete with WoW.

Watching these rabid WoW defenders puff themselves up over a satirical comment is goddamn hillarious.

It was unexpected, but from a publicity stand point, pure genious.

The majority of friends that i have that play WoW usually don't even know about other MMO's. I'm sure they're poking fun at Trion for this but at least they're talking about it.

Target audiences are identical. This game is for people that play WoW, but are bored with WoW itself.

Rifts are not that exciting. Sure a GM can ramp stuff up to astronomical proportions, but if that is an everyday occurance people will become desensitized and downright bored. O...rift invasion...again...

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

What is RIFT shaping up to be? Gear grind.

What advantage does RIFT have over WoW? Balls.

What advantage does WoW have over RIFT? Everything else.

GEAR GRIND the next year MMO is based on that SWTOR , GW2 , TERA everything , its a psychological factor that works

What seperate RIFT from WOW is character specialisation , something wow totally threw away , seems they are trying to fix that in RIFT , this can make a difference in having fun as a player by finding your own FORMULA own PLAYSTYLE own TOON you created or combined ....

ITs a huge addiction that wow threw away ,  sometimes a player finds things on there own , how things work .

The other Factor like most people are waiting to see is PVP since a unbalanced so many choices is impossible to balance

There is no one build that does it all in PVP , only thing balancing is preventing a 2 shot -3 shot comination that works against all . so this is again refreshing since no guide out there who tells you what to do .against X build .

and HIGHLEVEL rift system .this i dont know shit about , i guess i have to play to see it . (cant even speculate anymore after the input of beta people)

See more fundamental difference then what you wrote .

Let's be fair man, WoW has NEVER had real customization. All the specs were fundamentally the same except gimmicks like Elemental Mages and HARP Rogues. Sure, my RIFT character is a beast - and I have yet to see anyone that carries my spec or my control on a Warrior Archetype.

The fact of the matter is, RIFTs skills share many MANY similarities but that doesn't stop it from being a fun game for the time being. Go look at a rogue and a warriors first few skills from each tree... the only differences you will see are some Rogue skills are ranged, some are melee. Some Warrior skills tank, some melee. The only real difference most of the time is the name of the skill and 1 or 2 damage. That is NOT "extreme" character customization. It took me a couple of rerolls to find a really unique character archetype and I must admit... the 5v1 PvP fights I've won on the game already tell me it was a good choice. Oh, also DPS Tanked Fae - don't get me wrong I am having fun. But for the most part, do you really want to get to the end game just to improve your gear for the sake of replacing it with better gear in higher tiered dungeons?

Oh and... SWTOR and GW2 will not be like that. Some worry the end-game in those titles will be actually less evolved in the challenge department. Time will tell, but experience with RIFT tells me that gear is a HUGE factor.

Sadly my instinct tells me all games are going for the skinner box approach , its the easiest and even the fanboi dont realise they are being used , so simply put next year its gear grind , not mandatory , but sadly none the less gear grind .

Since its pyschological and gives instant gratification when you have syndrome one way or another .

Even casual gamers logging in want to be rewarded one way or another .

Its proven concept just like marketing and fanboi trolling , no disrespect meant .

And no matter what people say , wisdom comes with age , some are natural wiser then others .

While the youth may be smarter doesn´t mean they are wiser .

About SWTOR some people will replay 8 classes out of boredom just to go trough atleast every awesome story arc once .

With Rift its sadly about the character specialisation , finding your own fun toon , and the rifts itself .

GW2 I am not seeing all design concept in place yet , only promises , truth be told am not interested till the game is really finished and set on release , or have 1 global structure idea instead of zillion promises .

But sofar what wow offers if the competition product is finished and polished , is only this EXTREME GEAR GRIND .

Some love it and it can never end , but for most 6 years the same is enough .

Is it just me, or when I see this, I think of Vanguard's passion and over ego to beat WoW?

the irony here is when Rift is Played, I thought I was in Azeroth. so similar. lols

Lol they are basically asking for it! Sure its a funny comment but to all the WoW players who like to get a rile out of upcoming MMOs its a "well if you insist" so lets start shall we:

    We're not in Azeroth anymore...

1.but you can take this zepplin from Meridian to get to it! Oh and that one over there is to Northrend!

2.but the world is being torn asunder by Deathwing! wait...what... Regulous?.... sorry guys, sorry... ummm lets have another take shall we?

3.hmm maybe "your not in Lumbridge anymore would be more appropriate"

  • BeachcomberBeachcomber Member Posts: 535

Well Trion certainly reeled plenty WoW fanbois in...

  • slprslpr Member Posts: 340

This trailer is hilarious. I mean the trailer itself is good, but the "we're not in azeroth anymore" was so lame. If they are trying to convince WoW players to play this game, with things like that it won't  work.
