Well, that's the thing, look at the games it was up against.

The questions on the polls where STO did very well are based on 2010 games.

So it's not too far out of the question that STO has better pvp than hello kitty online or any other game. I imagine players didn't vote for Mortal Online because of issues, maybe they just don't like its pvp and perhaps because its' launch seems to have come in drops and drabs so people might not know too much about it.

Then "None of the Above" should have won, or...

massively.joystick.com should have NOT posted the findings to save themselves from a vault load of embarrassment.

It doesn't matter how much got fixed with STO since launch... too many "oh crap"s during it's first quarter. All the "At a Boys!" now doesn't give Cryptic any mercy.

What I think everyone is failing to look at here isnt the fact that STO won all these awards, its that they won these awards with a ridiculous advantage over everything else.

Your going to tell me that a game that is currently ten dollars at Target, that had a terrible launch with outcry from basically the entire MMO community, and that was looked down upon for its C-store and other microtransaction activities....

Has a good ten times the number of votes than 90% of what is on each list? Even some big A-listers that have much more hardcore fanbases like FFIV?

Seriously guys look at the numbers, this isnt a conspiracy theory or some random flaming or hatred, its obvious that Cryptic is cheating the system as a last ditch effort to get STO some sales.

It could be bots, it could be anything really, but its way too out there to believe that STO which as I said before is a ten dollar bargin bin game has:

    Best New MMO (???)

Biggest Suprise Hit (Really a hit? With who exactly?)

Best Roleplaying (If anything this should be the biggest indicator for MMO fans)

Best PvP (Im sure STO's super hard working community loves their PvP, because you know, thats the focus of STO right?)

Best Crafting (Come on guys really? Second place with only "None of the above" coming close?)

Best Launch (The only semi-realistic one, because in all honesty yes all the other games didnt do so well with sales)

Why doesn't it matter how much they fixed? They fixed it. Fixed is good. It's better than "not fixed".

So in the end, does STO have the best crafting of those games? PvP?, etc. I can't answer that because it's a fan run poll.

Obviously some will think that Lego's launch was better or that Mortal Online does have better pvp. In case all these polls are somewhat unscientific and an easily be weighed with a good campaign on the game's forums.

So who knows, maybe Hello Kitty does have better crafting.

Wow, just gobsmacked that that abortion of a game won awards. Were there really no other games more deserving or does it truely say how aweful 2010 was for mmos?

I doubt there are many people left who think Blizzard can't make a mistake. Anyone who played WoW more than a free month has been dissapointed one time or another. The difference here is that Blizzard are much more systems designers than other areas, so if a system is broken they fix it or come up with another system that works.

I know I'm not expecting a life affirming experience that will transform the way we perceive games and online interaction (one could hope though), what I am expecting is an extremely polished experience with well realized universe and its fiction. But most importantly, I expect functional and fun gameplay not dragged down by poor controls, animation and art style.

When it comes to real breakthroughs we should all be aware by now that pouring tens and hundreds of millions of money just won't be the way it happens, that's gonna happen small and then be integrated in the mainstream.

    Oh, right, STO...

Well, I did pick it up on a Steam deal a week ago. I'm still playing and having a moderate amount of fun, mostly because I really like Star Trek and enjoy the universe. The thing is, I'm not gonna pay to play this clunky little game, I might return if it goes free to play one day. Space combat is actually surprisingly fun, but ground stuff is just bad in any sense of the word, poor animation, it's got a very Benny Hill feel of the whole thing. Then again, customization is just insane and you can have more fun creating an avatar than actually playing it. Shame I only have two slots available.

STO - best crafting and best pvp of 2010 is a joke and demonstrates that the poll was poorly implemented.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

I do not play STO, so I don´t know about the rest.

But I wouldn´t vote for the game as BIGGEST SURPRISE HIT. In my opinion a surprising hit would be, if a game flew under the radar and then by word of mouth became a hit (kind of like Minecraft). From what I have read STO took the opposite direction: People were partially hyped pre-release, bought lifetime subs, and then the game arrived.

Not saying a game doesn´t get better after release.

Perhaps there needs to be an award for "Sucking the least for the year"

STO, at least we are not FFXIV or APB or...

I am sorry for the analogy, i don't mean to offend, but calling STO the winner for 2010 is like making a bunch of crippled kids race down a track and saying that the one that fell down last and got the farthest is the winner.

    All die, so die well.

I don't see how this is a suprise at all.Massively.com is practically the official home base of the CDF after all.If you read the blogs on anything 90% of anything Cryptic related on the site in the alst two years you'll see practically notihng but glowing reports of how great CO and STO are and what a great company Cryptic is,the only exception was when theyt were reprotedly going to charge money for  Vibora Bay for CO and that was only midldly negative.

Now I'm not saying there's any conspiracy or money changing hands at all,Massively is not a unbiased news site it's a collection of bloggers giving their opinions and views and those opinions and views have attracted an audience who shares them. Thus I don't think there was any rigging inviolved the awards reflect the views of the site and it's readership.

it's no different than GW2 getting awards here if you read back on anything Arenanet related you see very few blog articles saying anyhing negative and if you read the forums here 90% of posts are just blind faith worship of Arenanet/GW2.This is specially true when compared to any other game on the site which are regularly mauled and negatively reported on.This is the general way the overall community feels and thus is validly expressed in polls and awards jsut liek massively or any other blog site.

So you think Vindictus has better crafting or that Hello Kitty has better pvp?

    you might. No judgment there.

but it's not "best out of all the games out there during 2010".

It seems that it's the best out of some games that were launched during 2010. I might add that it's nice to see "Love" on that list.

I think perspective is key here. I highly doubt that the fans of Lego Unviverse are rushing to forums and polls to push their game as "the best of 2010".

And a great plug to see Tabula Rasa the most missed MMO. Would love to see that come back somehow.

Lifetime STO subscriber, still playing it, and hoping it'll improve and survive beyond the next 12 months or so.

That said, I laughed out load (for real!) when I saw this on the STO forums. Truly the MMO industry has reached a sorry state if the launch, pvp, or overall enjoyment of STO can be considered the best for a 2010 release.

Conclusion: It really doesn't take all that much to be better than the utter crapfests that were MMOs released on 2010.

Technology wise STO was pretty clean launch...The content wasn't bad either. There was just so little of it. But now theres at least twice the content that were there at launch and It'll only get better with Foundations....Ive been testing them on test server for a while.
