i didnt get as much time as i wanted to play in beta, due to work being really busy the last couple of weeks and i wanted to know what some of your impressions were with rift. im really hoping for this game to be good.

hard to say , tryed most of the souls and ended up with a lvl 16 warrior , dont think anyone can really say that this is going to be a hit since the max lvl is still 20 in CB.

To each their own, and I wouldn't discourage anyone from playing Rift. Trion deserve respect but they've not really done that much you couldn't find in any of half a dozen, or more, recent games. If anything it's easier...if that appeals to people.
I likeapples and oranges yet I still don't think Rift is the game for me. You are just going to have to decide for yourself if you like it or not, after all it is your money we are talking about.
cheers

So far I have enjoyed the Rift beta. But there is still very little about the game that really stands out as 'something new' and that is more than likely why the game is being compared to other games. But one thing that Rift has over a lot of the games released over the past few years is the level of polish that the developers have put into the game. The first beta phase build was more stable than the release versions of more than a few games.
If you are looking for a life-changing experience from an MMO then you won't find it within Rift, you won't really find it in any game, but what you will find is a fun game that seems to have been built on a pretty solid foundation. The beta phases have gone from strength to strength and are a pretty clear indication of the dedication of the team behind the game. And that in itself has been refreshing given that we have seen too many games fall apart during their beta tests and the developers still push them out the door expecting us to pay for their broken, bug filled pieces of shit games.
Thats said, I won't be buying the game simply because I am waiting for GW2 and don't feel the need to throw money at a company just for something to do while I am waiting.
There's very little that is truly brand new in any MMO these days other than the odd inconsequential gimmick: there are always quests, there's always character development, there are dungeons, equipment upgrades and ultimately, an endgame...
What makes a game enjoyable or not has a lot more to do with polish and the subtle differences in how the same thing is done in this particular game...
And what makes it enjpyable or not after the first 6 months, when it stops feeling new, is the comunity... or lack thereof.
The real question here is not whether it's crap or not (it isn't) but rather how long it'll last and how many will stick with it.
WOW right now is not 10 times better than any other MMO. As a matter of fact it's worse than several others but many new people pick it up every day simply because it's the MMO everyone plays: you pop in any time of the day or night for as little or as long as you want and there's stuff to do and others to do it with.
If that somehow happens with Rift then it'll be a bonus but I doubt any sane developer these days counts on their MMO increasing their subscription steadily over 6 years to reach WOW numbers. If it lasts 6 months with a good base, mission accomplished. Anything after that is gravy.
I sort of feel the same way about what I expect to get from a new MMO. If it holds my interest for 6 months then I got what I expected to get from it.
I think I'll get that out of Rift.

I ve said in a few posts, that it is rather boring to me, too easy, and just the same old. In a year maybe it will have some new cool things, but they need to make the combat feel and sounds better too. It s so bleh when I fight. I would not recommend this game to anyone for awhile. The bad thing is better games will be out by then.
For me I'm at the point where I'm unsure about picking up Rift. Kinda like when you're at a bar/club and you've had a couple of drinks, but you're not quite at that point where you'll go up and talk to that hot girl. Then, you start to wonder if you only think she's hot because of the drinks you've already had.
One thing that worries me is that I haven't come across any PvP videos of Rift from the developers or users. There was one video from the developer where there was about 4 seconds of PvP and it looked VERY dull which might be why they seem to be keeping it in the shadows. Look at the video from their website below. Watch the video called "Enter the Rift" and scroll to about 2:50 into the video. The combat (at least for PvP) looks very dull.
However, the graphics are decent and I like the way the armored mounts look as well as the Rifts with tentacles pouring out. Reminds me of a good hent.........tentacle documentry about giant squids I saw on the discovery channel.
Check out the article below. That large battle event they had during beta sounds like it was fun and something that I'd enjoy. However, one thing that worries me about these dynamic events is are they static or do they scale? What happens when there's a lot of high-level players? It won't feel so epic if they just slaughter everything. I know GW2 mentioned their dynamic events would adjust to the number of players present. Will this do the same? If not, I see a lot of lower-level players feeling left out as the high-level players destroy everything.
I'm still on the fence. I really want to give Rift a try, but I'm still missing a little too much information to make a final decision. I think the Beta 4 warfronts experience will be the deciding factor for me. I really like the soul system. This is my only real complaint about this game, as I just bought a superclocked GTX 570 ($100+ more for the 580 seemed stupid), and even with a 3.1 Ghz (OC'ed) q6600, I had pretty terrible framerates, but, other people I talked to with lesser cards had much better framerates. Lowering the game's quality settings had little impact on fps for me. I know it's an older CPU, but not THAT old, and not THAT slow.
The event definately made framerates drop to 1/2, for me as well.
This IS the best game I've played in a very long time, so I'm most assuredly going to buy it. I pretty much hate almost all other MMO's (or are just plain bored of them), so that's saying a lot.
Get in the beta if you can, and decide for yourself people!

First paragraph - lol. That's funny. Not sure if you are exagerating or not, but 2 drinks (or even 4) never really made an ugly or even average-looking woman turn hot for me. I guess that's a good thing.
People really need to play the beta. I don't like pvp, for many, many reasons, but in this game, I enjoyed it. A slew of us, during the last few hours of the beta, ganged together to attack "the good guys", and it was fun as hell - as much fun as I can extract from a video game, especially at my age...
The graphics are great, IMHO. Especially the graphics of the rifts - they are amazing actually.

I've seen people make that comment about not seeing anything new, and I don't understand it, at all.
The rifts are a huge dynamic element, as are the invasions, (and where they settle down and camp a town they just took over). They travel the roads killing everything in their path, which requires people to work together to drive them back (kill them), etc.
How is this not new???
I haven't seen dynamic elements like this in ANY rice-burner-MMO, or EQ, EQ2, AOC, DAOC, UO, AO, AC1, AC2, AOC, WoW and many other games I beta'ed and subbed that I don't feel like listing. I beta-tested war too, but not long enough to see any dynamic elements some people said it had in it.
Again, how are these dynamic elements not new? How many games are out there that have something like this? I haven't played ANY that have, and I've played almost everything.

Notice the above? I said very little.
The Rifts and the Soul Tree are nice features, but there was nothing overly awe inspiring about them that made me want to drop everything and subscribe to Rift. The Rift events were fun-ish and helped break up the generic questing/harvesting routine, but they weren't so great that I would count them as a must have feature for all future games.
As I said, I have enjoyed my time playing Rift, but so far the game only really stands as an alternative for those looking for something new yet familiar to other MMOs with a couple of new bells & whistles. I would gladly play Rift before I ever subscribed to games like WOW and LotRO again, but Trion are going to have a hard time selling Rift to those that already enjoy those games and are invested in them. Randomly spawning mobs and a beefed AA tree may not being enough of a hard sell to convince people to leave their current game for Rift.

Then I wish they had done more interesting with crafting instead of trying to cater to the lowest common denominator with pretty much a similar generic system used by games like WOW and LotRO. People have posted their honest opinions around the forum. Try and find them.
Its all apples and oranges.
If you like apples but don't like oranges then you may or may not like Rift.
But on the other hand if you like ornages but don't like apples then you may or may not like Rift.
An interesting comparison...
Eek, I'm going off-topic.

Definitely worth the $50 though. Although honestly, virtually any MMO is.
