I don't mean to troll, but I'm honestly wondering why there is so much hype behind this game? Watching a few videos on YouTube, it does not look good to me at all. I can't really say anything about content since I've never played the game, but at first glance the game looks like it has mediocre graphics, choppy animations and boring, slow-paced combat. So far, the only reasons I can come up with on how this game will succeed are Bioware and the fact that it is based on Star Wars. With the videos I've seen, the budget that went into this game doesn't really match the quality and the hype.
Is there something I'm missing here? If anyone could enlighten me, I'd greatly appreciate that. Again, please don't be mad and yell at me haha. I know I look like a troll asking this question and having this be my first post but I'm really not!

1. - It's Star Wars
2. - Lightsabers
3. - It's made by Bioware
4. - Because of number 3 it's probably going to have good story elements
5. - You don't have to do all the boring crafting chores
6. - It's Star Wars.
7.- Did I mention it's Star Wars? Made by Bioware?
This is not a game.
It's being made by Bioware and it's a Star Wars game. That's pretty much all you need to know to understand the hype.
Have you ever ben excited to go to the movies to see a new flick?
Same shit here :-)
Its star wars....and bioware!
Yeah and thats it xD

Could be the best sci-fi MMORPG since Eve
ITS STARWARS BIOWARE!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no, seriously I don't know
It's a Star Wars game made by Bioware! They haven't failed me yet.
It would have to be a bugless SWG pre-CU and NGE to do that.
This is not a game.
Did you play Dragon Age: Origins? Some of the best parts of that game was the characters and the stories. If SWTOR can get me as involved with my character and my character's companions, I am sure I will again be compelled to play all the way through.
I think that it will be absolute crap.
Biggest hype is about the story . ... lol seriously? Why not just make a movie, I skip past them in games anyways so that my group doesnt have to wait for me to watch it.

I am sure that they will succeed in keeping you as entertained for as long as you were in previous games . ... but in an MMORPG?
I bet that you will get sick of it in a couple months, Bioware or not.

Even if it keeps me entertained for just a couple minutes then I think it would a good purchase. I'm pretty confident that it will be a good game. The staying power of the game might be a question.
Say it was not MMO. You're still getting 8x Mass Effect stories for $50-60. I played Mass Effect for 10 minutes. I know it's got good story. So I know SWTOR will delieve an awsome story, on top of it IS MMO.
For me atleast, the winning part is: "Every NPC has voice evers." I haven't seen this done in single player and they're pulling it off in MMO. So I'm very happy.

This.
I have complete faith in Bioware this will be one kick-ass story driven MMO, with plenty of other elements to satisfy my other needs (crafting, pvp, pve).
Deal with it.
Given the plethora of recent releases I think he's setting himself up for a big crash

What hype? The only hype I see is for a different game we know next to nothing about.
It's Bioware + the Star Wars Universe. There really shouldn't be much more explanation than that needed.
Bioware have provided me with countless hours/weeks/months and even years of entertainment in their single player games and i don't imagine they'll disappoint me with an MMO. Can we count on a game that will keep us entertained for years? Who knows, but for £30 i'm more than willing to count on it entertaining me for at least a few months.
You're deluding yourself if you actually believe that to be true. The stories will be good, and I expect them to be on par or better than LotRO's main campaign, but if you think they're going to be even remotely as well done as a single player game, I have a fantastic bridge to sell you.
That being said, the fact that they're puppporting the story as being one of the main selling points of the game tells me that in all likelyhood they're completely missing the point of an MMORPG. The main storyline means NOTHING. What's important is the gameplay and the world and community that pops up around it.
Err you seen it done in Mass effect, and dragon age.. then theres DCO, while I wont call that a Npc voice over as you jsut hear voice from somewere (the npcs are not sync very well or the voice actualy sounds to come from the sky) thats 3 games, Im sure I forget a few very old games that done it (singleplayer) but well thats just age
SW:ToR will likely be a good game worth the money of its "single player" aspect alone the long term question is how will they handle social interaction. social hubs and how roleplay friendly will the game be? can you sit somewere on a chair , can you emote, that sort of stuff , while it does not seem that importand the flavor makes or breaks a game for many players even those that do not consider themself very active in the socail aspect of mmo's its like the sound or art in a game, you dont notis it to much if its there but if its absent you will feel a big impact on the game.
I'll be honest here...I LOVE Biowares Single Player RPG's(especially KOTOR and Mass Effect). But That's just it, I don't want to pay a monthly fee for a clearly single player oriented title. They keep talking about things like full voice overs and companion characters and awesome story. If I want that, I'll go play Kotor. I want an MMO. And hell, if it's a star wars MMO, I want classes that aren't just copy and pasted from MMO archetypes except with blasters and lightsabers.
Sorry, but I'm a little dissappointed with Bioware on this one so far with what's been revealed.
Yes and still less then other games. People have based their "fact based opinion" behind such little information.
I will most likely play GW2, but the hype behind it yet knowing so little blows away any sort of hype behind TOR currently on this site.
The explanation is simple : Different people get hyped for different reasons. There you go.
But I bet you already knew that. You also didnt really want that question answered, just vent your own frustration about it.
