Why I think Earthrise will succeed.

Let's be honest, when the game is released it will be as buggy and un-polished as sin. Like Darkfall, the game will get polished and get better. Trouble is with DF, the creators don't really "get" what makes a sandbox good. To them, sandbox=little content+ mindless ganking. They think a sandbox means an empty world. This doesn't seem like a sandbox to me, it seems like a war game, instead of adding new things that don't involve pvp to give players more options they just add more pvp stuff like the "fun hulk" which is cool and all, but they have the wrond idea. To me a sandbox is like SWG, some cool questlines (that I can choose to take or not to take), I can be an entertainer or crafter and never pick up a gun, I can be a bounty hunter or criminal or whatever. This is a sandbox because it's not all about pvp all the time, there are many options and pvp is one of them.

An even better example to compare to ER is EVE, that to is FFA loot game, yet there is so much stuff to do, weather that's to craft, become a criminal, participate in the super deep market, player polotics, pve etc. From all the interviews Masthead "get's it" I think. They realise that to make ER good, they must make PVP a very big component but NOT to make it a pvp game. DF and MO don't realise a game needs depth not just new ways to kill people in some open world death match.

I don't think DF will ever reach EVE level. Yes they got a lot of things fixed, and yes it does have a small dedicated player base, but I think after Masthead fixes the bugs it will climb up to EVE's level with several hundred thousand players. Why do I think ER will and DF won't? Because even though DF got alot of things fixed, it was always somewhat doomed b/c of the core gameplay mechanics and what the devs think a true sandbox is and it will always be very flawed b/c it seems these people purposely want it to not be a very deep game and instead just a shallow pvp game and that's the same problem with MO.

ER ones it gets the bugs fixed will succeed I think because although it will be unpolished the ideas are good, with DF and MO even if they get super polished and get rid of all the bugs (which will probobly never happen) and the devs put in every feature they ever wanted it still wouldn't be good because the devs idea of a good sandbox isn't very good at all imo.

You are putting a lot of faith in MH, and I truly hope you are right. I agree, it will be buggy, but as long as the "core" of the game is up to par, I have no problem waiting for patches.

Imo, I (we) got screwed.. SWG was my first MMO and I happened to get the game right after launch and loved it. I was a noob and thought all mmo's were the same. (sandbox) Ohhh how I was wrong.

I, in all honesty, can not wait for this game..Bugs and all.

I don't mind some bugs as well as long as the core is well done. I'm very anxious to give it a go.

I dont think DF or Eve are the best comparisons... you dont have to look far and long ago to find its identical twin.. Fallen Earth.. and we know how well that thing did... /sigh

Fallen Earth is still around, the devs are still putting out updates so I dont really see what you mean.

Lots of games are "still around" and it does not make them good games...  Fallen Earth was and is a mediocre to poor game at best shown by population and reviews. I expect this game will fall into Fallen Earth's territory or worse... hey there is always 1000 people out there that love a game to death like Horizons or Rhyzom but we all know fail... is fail...

Listening to reviews is as you put it "fail". And your opinions of Fallen Earth has to stem from not playing it if you think the game is "poor" and ofcourse "at best shown by population" thats a gem I think Ill keep it. That would mean Maple Story is the greatest game ever, followed by WoW.

I agree, I think the devs understand what a sandbox should be. It all comes down to execution.
