Reading through these forums, I cannot believe how "closed" people are to what Anet are doing.
Normal questing in every MMO I have played is a solo experience. Even if you WANT to group, it is rarely the case that you are at the same point in the quest chain(s). If you DO group then the quests are almost always too easy as they are designed for solo play. This has lead - particularly for me with my odd Australian playing times = to have a largely solo experience with MMOs.
Now along comes Anet with GW2. They replace this solo experience with an open dynamic event system that scales with numbers of participants and removes the need for formal group invites etc. You can work together without penalty. You don't ever have to go to a quest giver and click accept. You just play. Voice overs and environmental cues tell you what is going on and tell short stories which you are a part of. The observed trend is that people will "naturally" follow the event chain and start playing together. There is ALSO group content (dungeons) which require more serious cooperation and coodination (i.e. communication, leadership, planning) for those people wanting that style of play.
What do we hear... complaints that this is a solo zerg fest!?!?!
Comments
I have followed the GW2 news, just not the forums. If what you say is true (regarding the complaints), why do you even consider them?
The game is not even beta tested ffs. Chill, and let the trolls troll!
There is a possibility that it could be, depending on the population of the game.
This is not a game.
Give a man a bag of gold, and he will complain how heavy it is.
People will always find something to complain about, it doesnt matter how perfect it is. What I find funny is that any and all negatives I have heard about GW 2 so far have just been pure speculation, I have yet to hear any sound reasoning behind a problem someone has had with what we know about so far.

Don't worry, there are those of us who truly appreciate ArenaNet and are totally with you on this one. The transition from solo to group play looks very easy and smooth. Definitely accommodating to many different styles of play. You can play any way that you like with this very creative new system.
There will always be hate but Guild Wars also has a ton of love for sure. Can't wait to immerse myself in this world again. We may not ever group together but I'm sure we'll end up helping each other out anyways! ^.^
Ppl fear that D.E will replace the old quest system.
Write this: After gw2, quest-based mmos will become obsolete....like p2p games.
No one who has played the game is negative about it, even non-mmo players. That says it all really.
Trolls will always troll, especially with a game looking so much better than whatever game they are clinging to. Yes, gw2 is an evolution of mmorpg's, and i guarantee blizzard has copied gw2's DE for their next MMO. I'd put money on it. Of course, they'll bestruggling to justify p2p, but sheep will always pay for such things even without justification.
The trolls with think it's awesome then of course :P
lol Ive heard that argument before, but even if its a solo zerg fest, its impossible to hurt anyone by soloing in the game, any participation you give will help other players as well, so even if it is a solo fest, everyones soloing arround each other making grouping and coop play possible
*shrug* Haters gonna hate
But really I'm not surprised with the concerns people come up with, especially when most of them haven't taken the time to understand the many changes GW2 is coming out with. I think if people would just start by reading the sticky thread about what we know about the game then we'd have a lot less uneducated complaint posts and more intelligent concerns brought up.
Not much complaining just usual trolling. Some try to undermine gw2 so they think people will look at their own boring games which they are fanboys (saw some doing it from rift).
And anyways quests nowdays arent challenging or group oriented (maybe they are, read further). I do almost ALL quests in nowdays mmorpg solo. Sometimes even those marked as "group" or "heroic". Of course its difficulty is nightmare, but still possible usually. If you group and have 2 people group you usually clear them without challenge...
Also GW2 system might even encourage grouping of some sort for example: you come to area, you start doing DE, there is some people doing it as well, and just start chatting with them for some reason, maybe because they saved you ass, you they/you like how you work in team even without prior meeting, or maybe you talk about how freakingly awesome insanely you just blew up that freaking giant. From that you get friendlist to fill/join same guild.
Anyways there is many possibilities how this will affect MMO. It might happen as doomsayers are preaching, it might remain same as it is now, or it might increase number of socializing people...
I used to fight the trolls, but seeing how many of them there is, I realised I was fighting the windmills...
So I say:" Screw those small-minded people, I'll buy the GW2 collectors editon and even get all rewards from GW1 and enjoy the best game ever for many years."

Sure, this might be the best thing that happened to MMOs but we really don't know that until we played the game for a few months.
We do know that it sounds pretty fun and social for 30 minutes but it also needs to be fun in the long run. And unless you actually work at ANET you wont know that.
But I must say that I don't know by people complaining on this, GW2 is the most hyped game ever and most trolls spend their time in the TOR forums anyways,
Sounds great but don't celebrate until we actually seen it work for a while.
You read like one negative comment on guild wars 2 and you make a new topic crying "we don't deserve GW2." lol. Here's an idea, read the positive topics and you won't cry yourself to sleep every night.
Few people "know" how the game is going to play, (and they're not allowed to talk about it much) so most everything we do know is speculation, hopes, wishes and dreams.
This could be the true next evolution of MMORPG's, or it could just crash and burn like so many before it.
Some folks have "faith" in ANET to deliver on their promises, I prefer to save faith for church on Sundays and will wait until they are ready to show what they've got.
Of course I "deserve" GW2, heck they 'OWE' me big time. (in keeping with the modern spirit of entitlement)

It also has alot to do with the fact that they have very little to think about in their real lives other then MMOs. Trolls unfortionately are a very sad species lol
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
NOT WORTHY! I AM NOT WORTHY! I MUST WHIP MYSELF AND PROSTRATE EVEN MORE!
- OP. Nice choice of title, mate. No one should ever [object Window]deserve[object Window] an MMO; it is companies who should deserve OUR money.
I mean come on, you do not even have to form a group in the open world to be part of one. What is not to like about that ?
I look forward to trying it...But get serious with the "we are not worthy!"
The quests are logic loops, but I look forward to trying it and probably buying it, since its b2p.
Could people stop saying it's speculation. We've seen gameplay of it. We've seen how it works. I can form a pretty educated opinion just from that. Of course I'm just talking about gameplay here. Still speculation about how long it lasts and what not.
I mean, damn, we never know. Those Dynamic Events could be addictive as hell.
This game is not even out yet, people have not even been in any beta for it. We have no clue what it will be like. There is an idea , but companies say what they want all the time.
Trion says their game is going to change the genre... well, its not going to change the genre. It's a good game , it is fun, but it's not everything the devs are saying about it. Im gonna buy rift, becuase I enjoy it.
If I enjoy gw2 I will buy that aswell. (hopefully if I get lucky to get in beta)
Problem here with your post is that you say that we don't deserve gw2... what if they don't deserve my money? I'll have to find out when the game comes out. Or I get a chance to play it.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
I seen gameplay of rift and it is nothing like I thought it was gonna be. I was kind of taken by surprised when I logged into that game.. it did grow on me very nicely though.
"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
What else are forums for than a place to complain about things we can't possibly know anything about??? :P
Look at what folks say about SWTOR.
Just do what I do. The minute someone says "...just another WoW copy" about any game, immediately stop reading their post. Your stress levels will go WAY down. In this case, ignoring someone that says "just another solo game" might be in better context.
I hope GW2 wil be able to catch that coop survival spirit of games like L4D. On the top of that it is supposed to offer interesting, deep, uninstanced dynamic world without grind. I will play it just for some laugh with my buddies as it is going to be one of the few real MMOs on the market. Most modern ones feel more like single player games with low quality content.
This. I play a game to have fun. If i wanted to work, i'd do overtime.

I couldn't resist.
Not me. Don't believe me?...then go ahead...give me a bag of gold. Do it!...I dare you!!!
by the by....not a big GW fan. Hated it actually. However GW2 looks very interesting . Time will tell but I am considering a purchase unless it completely fails to hit any of the promoted marks.
