actually i have to agree. just get a review out and get it over with.

Game is out for sale so it has to be rated.

Why are subscriptions the point where a review should begin? Why not retail purchase?

    Oh right MMORPG.coms official response:

"It has already been said before. We would only be reiterating the news."

Now as far as I understand it, MMORPG.com has reviewed many other games and probably reiterated many a feature and function and it's never been a problem.

FF is garbage.  WoW Cata (even if you hate it) is infiinitely better.

Professional courtesy only goes so far, after a certain point your just insulting the users.

were quickly approaching that point,  please show us this site isnt just about $$ and its about the games. good or bad.

To be completely fair:  FFXIV isn't really launched yet.  It was launched as a beta and has yet to be updated to a fully realized launch version.  While I understand people would like a rating/review, I believe it will only do disservice to FFXIV as a whole.  I would much rather NO review, than a really bad (inevitable) review.  That way when the dev's FINALLY , if ever, finish their updates (hopefully prior to or AT PS3 launch) MMORPG won't have to go back and RE-review the entire game again.

  • vash79vash79 Member UncommonPosts: 72

Well if you mean it shouldn't have launched yet then I agree with you. However, it was officially launched and I'm not sure if they should get special treatment over other games. It should be reviewed on the current state of the game unless MMORPG.com wants to change their policy to not review a game until it has been out for a period of time allowing all rdevelopers to "fix" their games.

While not a review persay, Carolyn Koh is currently working on a series of articles about first impressions of the game. I'm not sure why there's so much fuss about MMORPG not having a review - there's plenty of reviews already, and none of them good. I'd personally like to see how a site rates the game after it's had some time to mature.

And it was confirmed that a majority of these reviews were just a bunch of BS complaints for the sake of complaining from what others had said prior.  When SE launched the "Character History" on the Lodestone you could look up the characters of a majority of the reviewers and most of them only played for a few hours and didn't get past lvl 5...it was rather pathetic of them.

    Now that isn't to say that XIV had its faults then, and even with the few updates we've gotten thus far, its still not up to par as it should have been with a newly launched MMO, especially being in the FF universe and SE already having great success and plenty of experience with FFXI.  Am I upset by the reviews, sure because its blatantly making the situation far worse than it really is, and its fairly common to still see many doom n' gloomers quoting from these reviews everytime an article on XIV or even XI pops up on a multitude of gaming sites and forums.  And pretty much everything that was supposedly bad, has been for the most part, updated and fixed now, with even more to come soon. {Course I suppose the 1st 2011 update could change dramatically with this new director and team, but he did say they plan to deliver on everything promised from the original team first...}

Whiteknights and apologists like the above poster are going to continue to make sure this game is a steaming pile.

Oh well its only themselves and SE who suffer, others will move on to better games and enjoy themselves.

There's probably a bit of hesitation because if the game actually DOES do a 180 and fix itself up nicely, they'd rather not go on record as dumping on it. It might turn into a "640kb of RAM should be enough for anyone" kind o statement. And to be honest, at this point, they WOULD have to dump pretty strongly on it, or set themselves up for accusations of payola/favouritism.

Not excusing it, just guessing at the reasons.

    A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs:
That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.

Here a Quick Review for you:

    The Good

    -Stuning graphics, Final Fantasy Sound.

    The Bad

-Quick lead-story that you complete quickly. After this you have no more quests till you level a 20 job. (So basically No content for Quests, lvl 20 in a job will take around 20 hours of grinding on squirrels... or one of the other 2 mobs around your level)

-The Guildleves are a joke. Think of a short kill 6 things... have the last one flee... kill 2 more things complete quest. Repeat these every 36 hours...

-Crafting is complex and I'd recommend reading up on the forums prior to any attempt in game, because you won't be able to figure it out.

    Conclusion

This game is a beta, it has no content, but does look pretty. Come back in 1 year, maybe 2, and check it out. It could be a good game then, but right now its just a unfinished crap that is floating in the toilet waiting to be flushed. Which if Square was smart, they will go ahead and hit the handle and revamp it... which is looking like what will happen. I'm crossing my fingers, and keep checking the lodestone hoping for that big patch that changes it all...

This game wont do any better as a revamp. If they admit failure they might as well just kill it and bury it, give everyone who bought it, a key to FF11 and go home.

I dont want that. The game has a future but revamp is not the future.

  • dreamscaperdreamscaper Member UncommonPosts: 1,592

My biggest fear after the survey is that  they will pull a NGE on us. Though it certainly has flaws, I very much enjoy most of the games quirks. Going to the WoW-clone route would simply kill my interest in the game.

    More specifically,

    • We don't need autoattacks.

    • Improve the retainer system instead of introducing an AH system.

    • The UI is mostly fine, just fix the number of clicks/presses needed for some deep items.

    What we DO need are

    • More content

    • Faster crafting

    • More content

    Nah, it'll be good for XIV since its still young.  Look at FFXI, while the core of the game hasn't changed much, its undergone quite a few changes in the past year, with the lvl 99 cap increase ~ allowing for class combinations of incredible power ~ Abyssea which changed the entire style of how XI is played above 75 {me wonders what they plan to do for the final 9 levels, now that they've made players so powerful, and able to lvl incredibly fast!}

Have you seen the new gear from the final boss of Abyssea that players are 1-shotting now!?  Its insane...

The 6-man PTs are still there, but nearly as rampant as before, especially with the FoV buffs, hardly anyone will PT in an underground area anymore, they want outdoor zones.  Plus it always seems the be on the squishest mobs, like the birds in Ronfaure, and more birds in the ToAU areas.  Course it was always crabs and goblin prior...lol

While I may agree with the NGE comment, its hard to get much worse than this game is in its current state. To say they won't revamp it and just add content is foolish. They design style of the game is very niche in its present form and I doubt they could even break even as it sits now.

The UI presentation is ok, but they need to do a slight re-customization to it. My thoughts would be to add timers to the action bar... Hitting the same macro over and over and seeing /ma casts "Fire" or target out of range, or spell not recovered is just lame and bad programming. I like turn based Final Fantasy feel with Timer bars, why not incorporate that into the UI, instead you have a half baked WoW action bar and everyone treats it as such.

Retainer System, is ok, but it needs to come a long way from its current form, and it would be wise to add a auction house. Hell, FFXI 's auction house would be ok... just cut and paste! lol... kidding

Agree on auto-attacks... thats just a bad idea.

More Content... Add some epic quests, not quests to level, but actually long story based quests with a nice reward at the end. Something it may take 5 or 10 levels to complete. The rank quests in FFXI are a good example.

With all these changes, they would slowly build a player base, but it would mainly taking players from FFXI than anything else. At this point, its pretty much their only option though. They can't do a complete "NGE" revamp, because you alienate any player base you currently have with no way of grabbing new players (except for maybe a PS3 launch). Quite the pickle SE has put themself in, anyhow back to playing DC Online while they fix this game.

Yeah, one-time quests is what this game definitely needs. Instead of actually, implementing lasting side content on top of the leves.

It wouldn't be fair to review a game that's in total ruins.

So someone can explain to me why FF14 should get a "special treatment" when others have got reviews even in utterly shit releases?

Oh yeah I remembered...the cash is flowing...

    "It has potential"
-Second most used phrase on existence
    "It sucks"
    -Most used phrase on existence
