Rift Rocks! Did many people miss Epic HUGE SERVER EVENT boss Battles???

anadora77anadora77 Member Posts: 6

Holy Crap!  I can not believe the haters around here.  It is really blantely obvious who has actually taken the time to really play this game (I have been in beta testing since beta 1)  You can NOT simply go into this game and play around for  a few hours, (play it like WoW) and say......ok its just like WoW or  doesn't offer anything new.   Rift's own development team has even shown and talke about (on podcasts)...that this game does have pieces and parts from allot of mmo's out there.  But it Twists them up.  What allot of  negative responses here have missed  is:   Massive EPIC SERVER Events!!!!  (un leashing huge Epic server bosses)  If you didn't happen to be on or did not take the time to read  and get involved, and watch your map to see where the Epic Server Boss and minions are at....then you are missing a BIG....HUGE part of what makes this game new and really stand apart.   Please  copy and paste this into your browser and see a video of one of the first  Epic Server Boss Battles.  This is NOT just a big boss....like with  a few 30 peeps in raid dungeon in Wow.....THIS  IS ......holy Crap!  The entire server can come in.....right  in  the open world and start bashing on this thing.....and you get  very cool epic gear for participating in it.   So  go here and see a tiny piece.....of what I am talking about.    Battles like these take the entire server and start at a least 30mins to kill.    It  IS just an Awesome.....Awesome feeling to be a part of  it.    The game has more pieces and parts than I think what many have experience here.    This game Rocks!   And is not a bad price on pre-order in digital Collector's edition at  60$  for what you get for ingame and extra things.   Please go copy and paste this into your browser and watch this!!!!

These Battles are crazy fun.

Yeah, I got to help with one of those, and it was super cool!

OMG gratz on your first super awesome terrifically positive post here on mmorpg, OP. And cool to hear the vid has the same super awesome terrifically positive comment. If I wouldn't know better I'd almost think you were a dev or someone else professionally marketing Rift for Trion! Wait .. I don't know better.

Anyway, this looked pretty fun. Not that WoW doesn't have world bosses but the fact that they stomp into a questhub is really nice. Blizzard has always hid them way out in the wilds and they needed to be kited to cities. I have to applaud Trion's effort to have so much unexpected things happen out in the world.

There is no chance he works for Trion.  No one could write that bad and hold a job.  I would be surprised if he is older than seven,  That being said there are some valid points in his post.  They just get lost in in that unreadable mass of jibberish.

Those are cool sure, but unlike the guy claims in the video, they weren't exactly random in the beta, at least for now.

It would be a good thing if they weren't completely random in the release either tbh, as I missed quite a few of these because I outleveled those areas. I saw one of these on average per beta.

I don't hate this game at all, but the rest of the invasions do get repetitive.

I missed it. However rift hooked me with how well made the games other features were. I will agree with anyone that says rifts are the reason to play this game over others but for me I really became immersed with the soul system, the games graphics and zone design and I really liked being an armorsmith, so much so that I would go around finding items just to break down gear for more materials. I haven't found one mechanic that rift doesn't do well yet.

Ahhh yes,  I realize  they were not entirely random and automatic  as some of the devs have talked about on the pod casts

they are trying to tweak this....so far they have had to manually start the server events...but they will become random and automatic.   These are even a step above what  has been seen in WoW.

....you think you gents would get a clue by my motto.......whatever,  Clueless.

As a sub-level 20 toon, I felt very left out and ignored during those events.  Why can't developers learn to truly involve all levels in these types of special scenarios?  Why is it always the higher levels that get the full benefit and rewards for them in every game I have played?  Lowbie toons are just as worthy and pay just as much money as higher level toons.  Program these damn events so that even level 1's can fully participate in some aspect of the damn things and fully rewarded for doing so and not relegated to typical cannon fodder.

Did you all get a chance to fight the big trent  with 280k hp too? The one that turns everyone into random woodland animals. But yeah, these type of things are what make Rift, never a dull moment if your actually out playing in it. I can't tell you how many hiden quests and random wierd things I have found back in some spot WAY off the quest hub rails. If you like to explore, this game really rewards you for your time off the beaten path.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

You missed the deffend freemarch event which were held in beta 3 AND 4.... I suppose its easy to miss when its only 100-200 people running wild and chat spams for over an hour (yes its a long event)

If im not completly wrong I believe they where even held 4  times in total although I only participated in 2 of them.  And they were targeted for players at lvl 10-20.  And if you didnt make it to level 10 in 3 days (takes about 2 hours game time if you play nice and slow) I would say its your own fault.

The one your thinking about was held in stonefield for lvl 20+ which were also epic! But still just because you missed the events doesnt mean there wasnt any.

Also that golem showed in the video is nothing compared to the end boss :)

While the events were massive in size, there didn't seem to be much to them other than that. All I saw elite mobs patrolling everywhere and killing anyone who wasn't in the raid-zerg. Some of my low level friends had to log out because they couldn't do anything except die.

IMO... hardly an 'event', but I guess It counts, and I guess it's better than nothing. maybe.

They could have joined a Raid or created one themselves? That would have been my first instinct....

If your friends logged out then I suspect the game is not for them. I can't tell you how many times I've died but I got back up and got back in the fight, even though I was out levelled.

It's the difference between a "safe" world and one where something is happening, something where you have to make decisions.

And they could have ran. Heck, I ran out of several invasion's notice and shadowed them until I saw others doing the same. Then we joined up and attacked.

You actually have to defend points and clear out nearby footholds (or it's possible the invasion will overrun you) in some invasions.  They are a bit more complex than just lots of elite MOBs spawning at once, you can't just go around with a single raid to beat some of them, you have to effectively split your forces.

The bosses themselves were heavily zerged, but if you engage one with less than 100 people they do require some effort to defeat.  We engaged one of the Guardian bosses in Guardian territory as Defiant and fought the boss for 10+ minutes till the Guardian zerg showed up and interfered, and it was putting down AoE pools and also had a self AoE that would 2 shot our tank, as well as AoE fear which made staying out of the pools difficult.

The AOE fear that turns you into a deer? That would be the Giant tree boss i think?

I was there for the last boss the staff just dropped on top of us during the last 30 minutes. It destroyed much of Kelari Refuge by the time I'd got there, and had the area locked down pretty tightly, one-shotting most people dumb enough to aggro him. But I rallied the whole server in an epic battle that took 15-20 minutes. Was a lot of fun.

Was a banshee, turns us into skeletons.  Also fought a boss on a normal rift that did one that turned you into a fire elemental.

The video footage, if you cut out the salesman like excessive wording of the youtube poster can be summed up by this.

Developer spawns elite boss mob outside of quest hub. Mob has lots of HP. People attack it. It doesnt die till 30 minutes later because...it has a lot of HP. The end.

This means people literally stayed there and smacked a mob for 30 minutes just because it had tons of HP. This makes me a bit worried about what many of these "gamers" constitute as fun. Dangerous days ahead for the future of gaming if this attitude grows.

I bet if if the developers spawned a piece of yarn (string) with tons of HP and turned everyone into kittens.... the effect would be the same.

Actually one of the big bosses did turn people into cuddly little animals, and it was a tree.  Now silly little animals hitting a tree is almost as yuktastic as kittens and wool LOL.  So you're closer to the mark than you even realised.

MMOs suck because corporatized corny publishers hire corporatized corny devs hence this corporatized corny marketing attempt by whoever the frick the OP really is. Hyperbole much, OP? Sheesh.

Could you post the video where things get epic? That one you linked in your original post was meant to be a joke right? At least it worked much like a sleeping pill when I watched it.

So come on, so us the epic!

Trion wouldn't post something like this.  If anything, Trion would post the link of their commercial in the WoW forums.  Instead of being like, 'Rift looks cool!' in the title -  They would post something like 'Did you see this crap?'  See they would do something like that because they know how to get attention.  They also know their game is good and people will play it.  This OP is a fan, a young one at that probably.  So think about that, before you slam him so hard.  I admire his enthusiasm even though it comes off a little immature.  The mass invasions were fun to me and I'm not the only one.  Hate all you want, it won't change that fact.

Trion is a smart company and if you honestly think they're trollin' this board making threads like this to get your subs, you're in for a big f'n surprise.
