     Yesssss...

I was a bit disappointed by this. I was glad they showed actual footage but they really should have optimized the server before they started recording. it reminded me of one of those hack movies people make. They sit in the back of a theater and record a new release with a video camera then drop it on the internet

That was better than the last. Graphics and animation are better and and angles and lack of a HUD show they are still trying to hide the combat. As for the stuttering it's obviously from the software they used to capture the video and not the actual game.

    Playing: Rift, LotRO
    Waiting on: GW2, BP

Then they should have used different software and/or recorded it until it was 'clean'. Bad enough to show 'poor' quality game aspects but to throw a negative into their marketing with bad video recording? Not good.

I would honestly rather see video and information on a game as it actually stands rather than as the developers hope it will be. I'd rather try the game out knowing it's got some glitches, instead of thinking it's going to run like HL2 and finding out it's got problems.

I could live with the graphical issues if they weren't extreme, but only if the developers made a conscious choice to focus on game play and mechanics instead. Need more information to actually decide.

The dorky melee guys - towards the end of the video, when the three guys are confronting our 'heroes' leaving the little outpost, the melee guy charges up his hand knives and some kind of shield, then he runs a few steps and attacks. Those few steps are the dual hand melee dork run from the first video. I could live with that, but I haven't seen such dorky running since Steven Segal.

Heh, I have, and it's in that same video, the female "jog" animation is terrible : ( Looks better actually running, but the hip-shimmy jog is cringe-worthy. Maybe the boys will enjoy it...
I too much rather see game-play as it is, but it's hard to escape Xerith's point that this does not look like footage from a game a few weeks away from release.
Earthrise had concepts that sounded great on paper, but by the looks of that footage it may be some time (as in months) post-release before they hit their sweet spot. I'll keep an eye on it, and I'd love to be pleasantly surprised at release, but that's looking less likely by the day. Here's hoping they're keeping a few aces up their sleeves.

Yeah, I wasn't going to comment on the female model or the running...they must really, really like butts over there wherever they are developing this. It's got to be the armor though, I don't think human anatomy works like that. But again, I could live with it if most of the glitchy stuff is just graphics or animations. It's a big IF, but if they have skimped on the visuals in favor of game play, then I'd probably enjoy it.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

    What went wrong?

Did they run out of funding?

  • Shoko_LiedShoko_Lied Member UncommonPosts: 2,193

eeeeeeeewwwwwww bad animation, bad lighting effects, choppy feel, eeeewwwww. The fact that they have a video this long means either they need hype because of funding issues, or rush.

This may tell us something about the final product, it may not be even remotely polished like we all want our MMORPG's to be when they release.

I have a feeling this is going to be completely overshadowed by the big names upcoming.

I am not worry at all, yes, i do agree that on Release, i am 1000% sure that the game will have major issue on bugs and such

but give ER 1 year, it will be a good game overall when all that is fixed and with patches

because right now, it is the Visual that is having a Major Problem,

but Concept Wise, it's WIN, when all the Visual have been fixed, and all the Concept have been Implemented

i can see you even Play ER then

    So What Now?

Concept wise, yes, it sounds fantastic.. almost too good to be true - which is exactly what this game is. I'm highly anticipating February, so you can folks can why exactly Masthead are keeping things VERY quiet and producing amateur-like gameplay videos.

Right now, it's not just the visuals that are a major issue. Throw in the fact that optimization is non-existent, gameplay is boring and 80% of the features are missing and you MAY just be on to something.

    Not long to wait now.

How can you be so sure that the gameplay is boring and 80% of the feature are missing when you haven't even play the game yourself, unless you are already in Beta to be able to claim these statement, we dont know what's in the game nor what feature they will have implemented upon release,

because all we see is just a random Beta Footage which we dont know if it was captured by Testers themself of straight from MHS

for me, it's hard to believe that they will release a game with 80% of the features not there, just hard to digest that they will do that

    So What Now?

Visually the game looks stunning. Mechanically it looks FUBAR. There is clearly serious lag/desync issues, hence the stuttering while the PC's ran across the map. Combat and animation looks very clunky, but the environment/models/visuals are very nice. If we have problems such as these in the most basic of things, imagine how broken/non existent everything else will be, like crafting/questing/mounts/economy/housing etc. Doesn't even bare thinking about.

This game looks like it should be in Alpha, and if they honestly believe they can release this in February (which i did not know) then we have yet another game with great 'potential' simply flopping. I will not be another sucker throwing my money at 'potential' to never see that potential realized.

Due to a minor issue called an NDA, testers aren't permitted to discuss testing.

Just to reiterate, February is very close - hopefully Masthead will stick to their word and unveil Earthrise for the 164 people actively awaiting to play this game.

There also seem to be some heavy AA issues when you look at the trees and such. The environment looks interesting but I get the feeling that it might be coded very poorly.

    O well, we'll  see.

This was my feeling as well.  I have had this game in the back of my mind for awhile.  Beta I know. .   The combat seems more turn based click and wait.  It doesn't have that action feeling I was hoping to get from the game.

Also the NPC standing at the "base" near the door just waits while the players go in. . watches the ambushers set up. . watches the players come out and get ambushed.  I know it is an NPC but I am really looking for more in the next MMO I play. . but like you said. . .we will see.

I worry.  There are a lot of games coming out.  If the game launches poorly most will skip and and never look back.  You can use games like EVE or Darkfall as examples of games that had slow starts and built from there but they offered something that was not available anywhere else.  I hope that this game is different enough to warrant the same kind of patience.

Also I never get why people say that. . "wait until it has been out a year"  have they not been in development for several?  Players certainly help iron out some things but they also take up more resources as far as CS etc.

I don't see how you can make this assumption about the combat, I mean we only saw like 30 seconds of actual fighting. Personally I thought the combat in the other beta video did a better job of showing this off.

And seriously your complaining that the NPC doesn't have the ability to somehow react to an ambush...I mean theres plenty of valid complaints to be made about this video but that is not one.

    I'll be waiting.

Well when a company puts a video on their web page you would expect it to show the better parts of the product.  I don't think it is worse than other MMOs. . I had just hoped for something slightly better.  I stated that.

Also complaining about AI is valid.  it is something I want to see more of in games and it is an opinion. . so valid.  I don't know the context of the NPC or the place the players are in but is just screams "static" world to me.  I am looking for something different, so I mentioned that.  I think that is valid.
