yep but on the flip side look at eq1 and eq2 some great content over the years and how many xpansions dose eq1 have now is it 11 ).
has for vanguard it was doomed from when it went live and if soe had not got it it would have shut down for good, but then they put it on the all acsess pack runs great not but has never come back from when it went live.
i think soes big mess up was swgs when i changed the whole game and lost all there main subscribers in the makeing.
but if this game has the same support that eq1 and eq2 had will be great .
I've seen you make this statement a few times -- have EQ and EQ2 been releasing free monthly content packages or just paid expansions? DCUO has promised monthly updates and, frankly, it will need them to flesh out the game. Otherwise, it will linger on station pass life support and see a brief bump in population every 6-9 months when a new expansion is launched. I really don't think SOE has as amazing a reputation for delivering frequent free content updates (see SWG's GCW and Matrix Online) as Turbine and Paragon Studios.
We really have to see what comes out from the dev team in Feb and March though.
DCUO is fun. It's a good game. It will need to evolve and expand a great deal until it can reach "great". The UI and chat bugs need to be sorted out, arena queues need to be fixed, the world boss fights really don't work so well, and the game will need to add a lot of content as time goes on. DCUO could become a great game, but it has a lot of work to get there. I'm enjoying it for the moment, though.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
I don't care what the haters say. This game rocks. I haven't had this much fun where hours just fly by without being bored or frustrated in a long, long time. Now it may not have that sense of awe and wonder like Everquest did, and the depth is also questionable, but the arcade beatem' gameplay is just straight up bumble gum fun.
I'm enjoying the game a lot, its not a typical mmorpg so I understand why some folks here might not take to it, but as online experiences go I consider it one of the very best. As for other games benefitting or suffering I am not so sure, DCUO really offers something different to any other mmo, whereas they are generally all about the avatar, DCUO is more about the world and the experience of playng, for myself that is a rarer accomplishment and very refreshing - I am very happy to take my time levelling and just soaking it all in, I appreciate the care taken to deliver the DC ip and although it is worrying to have it in SoE's hands this feels so much fresher and more involving than anything else I've played I am willing to cut them the slack and hope they realise the potential it has.
SOE Sony has a great track record of improving their games and they do not die.
Matrix Online?!
To be fair SOE has been active on development support for games they wrote eq, eq2, swg, and planetside. Games they aquired have been left to support there own dev teams or die if they didn't get the numbers.
Now one can certainly say they screwed up swq with all the changes but one can't deny that they have invested quite a bit in development on that game.

Can't really say for Vanguard 'cause i never got to play it (though the latest patch listed is dated december 2009), but i played Planetside and i can tell you after the latest update in early 2008 the game received only some small fixes through the year. It has been completely abandoned in december 2009 (date of the last patch).
One nice thing about Dcu...is that it has not caused COH population to decrease...I was afraid that there would be a massive drop in players, however the servers have been close to capacity the last few days
COH is a great game and I enjoyed playing it too. That said, after playing DCUO I could never go back to COH. Graphics, combat, travel powers, quest immersion, world size, alert/raid/pvp queueing .... I could go on... DCUO just does it better. It's definitely a more hardcore super hero experience!
Glad you are really having fun OP! I have waited to play this game so that I can enjoy myself without all the at-release bleeding hearts trying to spoil the game because it isn't everything they ever wanted in one game.
I'm trying to get my friends and family that play WoW to play DCUO with me. If they play at least a month or so then we can transition over to RIFT in March :P
I'm just looking for any half-way decent game to be playable long enough to help my friends move away from their 2nd jobs in WoW so we can all have fun with GW2. (angelic harp sound)
I just started today and I have to agree, it's a great game.
I went in thinking it might be trash like Champions Online, STO or City of Heroes, but it's really good. It's clearly quality and has a great actual comic book feel to it.
With updates, I could see it being a great success for a long time.
Comments
whatever....
SOE has a HORRIBLE track record,I almost didn't try this game because it is SOE, but my love for DC overpowered it for me. To my luck, DC rocks
It is really MUCH better then I expected, and I'm a disgruntled SWG vet
Most fun I have had in a while.

so one game out of how many? good catch.
You're forgetting all the games that are on life support and haven't received a single content patch in what, years? Planetside? Vanguard?

Technically not a SOE game. They bought it after it had launched and failed. They just managed to keep it running for a while.

"Unlike WoW which I have played a long time"
lets see how long you play DCUO
the game has only been out a few weeks.
Lets see if everyone still feels the same when it comes to re-subscribing.
