Feb. 4th Launch is still a go; and new forums

http://forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php?topic=7387.0

So, not that I was questioning it, but with such silence, it can make one wonder.  Anyway, Feb. 4th Launch is still a go, the existing forums will disappear, new forums will rise, and their looking to Recruit Forum Moderators.

I just want to get into any kind of beta/trial for this game sigh. I am not as adventurous as some who can say I am just going to buy this game. I need to make sure I will enjoy a game before I spend my hard earned cash. Crazy how they never had a bigger closed beta,  or even an open beta for this game. Makes me wonder if they are hiding how bad it is :(

Open beta, with tons of players requires a big server, as this game will only have a single server for the entire playerbase around the world.

As they don't want to setup a huge server, which will be unused afterwards, they're going without an open beta.

The players who are in closed beta or buy the game on launch will be a good size of playerbase allready for Masthead to get feedback about anything they need to know for tweaking the engine, getting rid of bugs etc.
As the game is getting better by time, the word will spread by itself and the playerbase will grow.
That's not the worst approach actually, as growing bigger over time is allways easier, then shrinking after an initial rush.

EDIT: Oh. And they chose to do it this way a year back allready.

So long as the game is good enough that's OK. I wouldn't want a repeat of Mortal Online (and I'm sure neither do Masthead).

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Theres also a new video coming out tomorrow, lets hope it does a better job at getting everyone excited.

I understand the point of "we aren't doing a large beta because we don't want to create these huge servers and then have them not used".  However, that makes me wonder how they can do a true beta stress test.  I've never seen any MMO I have beta tested get it all right on their stress tests.  Without one, your first true stress test is your first day live.  I think that is a poor decision, regardless of any other reasons why they did or did not do a large open or closed beta.

Above all else... never ever piss off the penguin.

I'm sorry... but they are doing an open beta.  It starts on Feb. 4th and costs $50 or so to enter.

The idea that there are perfectly reasonable reasons why there is no open beta... reasons that do not indicate this game is going to struggle out of the box... is just blissfully ignorant thinking.

I dont understand where this concept has come from. For some reason now days alot of people think that all games need open betas and its a normal thing but actually the concept of open betas is a relatively new thing.

An open beta doesn't mean the games no good.

  • fadisfadis Member Posts: 469

Open betas are new?  New... new like computers are new compared to the dinosaurs?

I'm at a loss to think of an MMO that hasn't had an open beta... ever.  Even the really crappy ones usually have a quick OB.

Open betas arn't "new" and they are the "normal" thing and have been for online games for a while now.

Seriously it just sounds to me like they are doing what most MMORPG's are doing now-a-days.. Releasing a unfinished MMORPG for a quick money grab so they can patch content in later.. It isn't exactly a bad thing, you gotta do what you gotta do to stay a-float.. But i certainly aint giving up my hard earned cash without feedback from a open beta or good reviews..

With all the Turd mmo's that have been released unfinished over the past couple of years the Devs of Earthrise must be in cloud cuckoo land to expect anyone to spend $50 on a game that no one knows how it plays.

Just look at the video that was posted on mmorpg last week to see the crap gameplay.

They need an open beta for all.

Releasing Earthrise while most gamers are prepping to play Rift?

Having an open beta on Feb 4th I could see, but damn...

I think they must have caught something from Smedley!

But 2 completely different games.  Rift is a Fantasy Themepark mmo while Earthrise is a SciFi Player-Centric Ecosystem Sandboxy mmo.

It a big cloud of cuckoo because they want you to spend $49.99 euros which is around $67 not $50 hehe.Well at least they arent throwing in a clothe bag with a 3/4 empty "artbook" and calling it a CE.image

The $67 pricing mentioned seems to be wrong.  I take it that their "Store" will offer a $49.99 digital download, which is fairly typical.  http://www.play-earthrise.com/

But I can see how some would be skeptical of Earthrise with the lackluster game-play and overall quality that turned out to be horrible and shallow with STO, Fallen Earth, FFXIV, WAR, DCUO, ect.  Maybe the difference is that Earthrise will play more like EVE Online since it's a more sandboxy player-centric ecosystem than the afformentioned.  Not sure.

Hehe I usually would agree with you here, considering how many other titles clearly were hiding a crappy game by not allowing a bunch of beta access, however, Earthrise is totally up front about their current progress, even though it looks very glitchy and very laggy and plain out unfinished, they still showed us what they were up to.     Doesn't seem like they're hiding much to me

I cant afford to buy a $50 game to possibly find out its a horrid mess of a MMO.

I can understand people not wanting to risk $50 on this game based on what we know/don't know about the game. I'm gonna take the gamble but I'm sure alot of people will wait a week or so.

  • Hellfyre420Hellfyre420 Member Posts: 861

Yeah i know i've been more then less supportive of this game but i will defiantly be one of those people waiting for a week or so after release to see if i'am gonna buy it or not.. I'am defiantly picking up Rift but right now i got plenty of work+time and can afford to pay for 2 MMO's and play them.

I wish this game would turn out to be a version of anarchy online 2 that a lot of us want to see.

If they would just post one decent video I am sure they would make all of the uncertainty of the player base to feel at ease to spend 50 bucks
