The fifth Guild Wars 2 profession was unveiled (at least in part) a bit early today in a "Top 10 of 2011" article published over at PCGamer. The reveal was later confirmed in a Tweet by PCGamer's Josh Augustine.

The fifth profession reveal looks to be the "Guardian", which is said to be the class of Logan Thackeray, one of the game's signature characters. No further details are available at the moment.

Login? You sure it's spelled like that?

It's guess it's cool to know it's Guardian, but...kind of lame to announce when there's no info.  Not really worth a post imo.  Looking forward to someone actually having information about this new profession.

Full reveal is out on Thursday, plenty to speculate about until then :) I'm going with it being the Monk replacement class focusing on protection/smiting.

I still believe Thackery is warrior class.

Its sooo much better than making threads about nothing (or writing articles about there being no new news.  image

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

Lol, isn't it pretty clear right now that he's not a Warrior?

    This is not a game.

So it's the "blue mace lady" then...

Well I'm not really impressed witht the name "Guardian". Seems too.. dunno. "Guardian" - it's missing something archetypal like "paladin" or "knight"

Imo they chose "guardian" just to try to be different from other mmo classes of that type (a tank that can throw a heal or buff or two). :( Bah. They'll probably call the engineer or even better gadgeteer (you know the guys with tech and gadgets) into something original sounding like "gunner" (ugly and misleading word if I ever heard one) or "tactician" (lol, just lol).

Oh well, what's in a name? I'd be much more pleased with "paladin" and WoW be damned.

Releasing a class with no info is weird. They should have just waited until next Thursday.

So instead of the trinity, we are going to just have tanks and dps?  Since everyone can "heal".

IF it's a monk replacement class focusing on protection then guardian is the perfect title for it, theres currently a protection prayers skill in GW called Guardian, all works for me :)

Wednesday rule begone forever!  I have to say, I started thinking of it as the "Guardian" a few weeks ago (not sure why) so this name reveal isn't too surprising for me.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

totally intentional cuz theyre not yet ready to release all the info yet till thursday and this is their way of satiating the ravenous GW2 crowd - a teaser that will have people talking and speculating over the weekend

There will always be tanks, even if there are no dedicated tanks. Many mmo editors have already talked about their experiences tanking as various classes; tanking as a necro, as a warrior, as a ranger, and even briefly as an elementalist while using their Elite, which let them draw aggro and survive long enough for the others to be ressurected. So yes, there are tanks, there are heals, there is dps, but no one particular class is going to be restricted to one particular role, even if they might have a leg up as compared to someone else. It's really not that different than the theory behind GW1's system. The skills to multi-function will just come within the core classes instead of needing to multi-class to do the same thing.

Unfortunately, our beloved mesmer might take a little longer to balance due to the changes to their core mechanic but I'm pretty sure we'll see it after the Assassin lol.

Well it is a matter of taste.... "Guardian" hmm... "guardian" - it guards... hmmm... hmm.... not really, no - doesn't do it for me. It's like calling warrior a "hitter" or elementalist a... "hitter" again. It might make sense from a GW1 perspective but i'm looking at a a bit wider, like iconic archetypal perspective.

On the other hand it might be just me. "Guardian"... the guy that guards.. what? from whom? It's just not.. dunno. It's like calling the engineer a "tactician" - well everybody uses tactics, why would that guy be a "tactician"? Or "gunner" - so he has guns - so what? He's supposed to have all kinds of tech-wizardry at his disposal as well  - so why "gunner"? Hmm.. still don't like the name "guardian". Oh well, like it's important anywayz lol.

It's not really a tankish profession, it's a replacement for the monk.

Is it just me or does that picture look....odd? He's so skinny and the perspective is off somehow. I would have hoped for a groovier pic. Oh well...didn't get mesmer, got lousy Guardian pic. :(

Guardian reminds me of the Guardian class in LOTRO. I wonder at the similarities?

Your logic could be applied to any profession in any game.

    This is not a game.

this reveal actually made me a little afraid for our mesmer , doubt creeping in if our beloved fast caster / dominator class became a victim of their iterative process and the prof art is just a concept made long ago

still cant wait for more info!
