Ive never understood why people complain about the dungeon finder program in WoW insisting that it stops people from playing with others and it makes no sense at all.
Personally i love the fact that i can play with players all over the world and theyre not just limited to the server im on, that is a plus, not a downside.
Anyways i like Rift but i still dont intend to play it because im tired of WoW and quit it.

It is pathetic how this game can not stand on its own feet. If I want to play WOW, I play WOW with all the features of 2011.
If I want to play something else, I play MTG or a shooter or a boardgame.
Amazing, the topic and the linked post are all about the question of 'why should a wow player give rift a shot?' and then gives examples to support that concept, and you turn it around into an insult saying Rift can't stand on its own? I'm sorry, but I read that linked story, and not once in there did it say WoW players HAD to play Rift becuase! Seriously, if you think Rift would not exist if the WoW babies didnt come over to play it.....yeah seriously.

Yup.. Rift, the best game that WoW players have never heard of..
I didnt watch the video, but, if Rift is close to as well done a game as WoW and has some of or all of the same features as WoW, but not half the ass hats as WoW playing it then it will be a great game IMO.
If you're happy with your current MMO, there is no reason to play Rift or any other MMO.
If however you're not that happy, or you're curious about what the other developers are doing, then there are enough keys to let you in the close beta and see for yourself.
Personally I tend to try anything I get my hands into and choose what I like and dislike according to my own taste.
I agree with a lot of that article, the life that the open world in RIFT has makes it more of a mmo than WoW is right now.
Has anyone been on a pvp server, and can confirm the rest?
i play on a beta pvp server and yes there are players that do gank lower lvls lol
as for open PVP cant say a whole lot because its still in beta. With beta 5 coming out on tuesday and having a huge increase in players we will see alot more open pvp
There are some good points in that article, but I don't see a point in comparing every game with WoW. I am ex wow player and I quit because I got bored from playing one same game over and over. I don't say it's bad, but after 2 years I decided to quit it.
Now I am going to try rift, if I like it I will keep playing, if not, I'm moving onto next one. I don't know what is a big fuss about it, we have opportunity to make choices.. nobody is forced to play wow or any other game.

Sshhht, let's keep it that way
[mod edit]
Shouldnt be too much of a problem, most of the WoW trolls got bored with spamming general chat after the first day of beta3, it was very civilized after that. Its all about brand loyalty, thats why Trion are doing so much to build it up. Yes there is guild ties, but nothings stops them from opening a branch in other mmos.

Well the article 's whole meaning is summed up in the 1st paragraph..Did u like vanilla more than cataclysm?
Indeed Azeroth was quite alive with lots of ppl running all over the areas searching exploring discovering things, even farming mobs for rare epiq drops, they were actually going to the instances ,encountering hordes/allies outside instances(i recall loads of huge party fights outside instances).
One other thing that annoyed me alot nowdays is that when i played in vanilla i knew most of the horde players, we had vendettas,or friendly -neutral relations in some occasions with some of them, i knew who were good warriors, there was some names warlocks mages, u knew if they fighted u it was goign to be a hell fight, and whole that was giving a fewling of a live medieval fantasy world to players . Also u knew many of the players on same side u knew who were good and bad, u made friends for long time, social element was hell stronger thn now. All these things are gone noe and sacrificed at the altar of casual gaming where many players don't have time to search for parties and duneon finder tool putted a nail in the cofin of sosialism.
Playing bg's and dungeons with players that u dont know, has many disadvantages ...
Players are jerking off pulling plugs or just leave party if items they wanted from x boss didnt drop , nerdraging, ude behaviors, and all these cause they hide because they hide behind the courtine of being to another server so they can do whatever they like without giving a shit. In vanilla u couldnt jerk off with your party mates cause everything u did left a trace to your name within the server..for goood or bad and it followed u.
Some will say yeah ok but with dungeon tools we save time to find parties and bgs faster. Well if u want dungeons and bgs faster all blizard had to do is merge half empty or almost empty servers into 1 so instead of 40-50 server with low and mid populations to have 5 full polulated servers and with all those zillions of dollars they made make way friking better servers maybe that can handle more ppl online?????
I was playing in vanilla in defias brotherhood server as alliance and the timer for bg was 3-5 mins... Now with bg tool finder i get queqes like 7-9 mins...how it helped then anwy. And tbh figthing hordes from same server was more intresting cause it was adding to game's atmosphere that was alive at that time. Fighing ppl that u maybe wont meet again or wont meeet them at least in your serber world gives nothing to game's feel.
Anwy all in all of rift is indeed close to vanilla wow concerning world's fewling alive and things i said above its bye bye cataclysm for me..and for many others i assure u...
Amazing game, fun, looks great, and its actually innovative..
so there people that call themselfs x-wow players you dont want this.
same goes for people who call themself wow players.. u dont want this either..
Non single minded game Mmo players, yes you want this.
------ Playing MMO's since my first which was Ultima online, then Anarchy online. and so on.. Now a days im very critical before i ewen bother downloading a Free to play mmo.
So far in betas we have been confined to one or two zones with 2 or 3 day s of play time. Of course it's going to feel more alive with more people around.
Secondly, we have no idea how end game will work.
- You get teleported to the dungeon if one person walks in. Means you can stand in a city.
- Content is content, be it WoW, Rift, Vanguard, whatever. once you've done it you aren't going to be out running around.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
Great article which tickled my hype-gland on multiple occasions as it noted all the things that appealed to me so much in vanilla WoW back in the days: strong and lively server communites, exciting world pvp (on pvp servers) and a single, open world.
Evolving from a midly interested fence-sitter to an alert distant observer.
Yup.. Rift, the best game that WoW players have never heard of..
Sshhht, let's keep it that way
Why shouldn't a wow player give Rift a shot? If they enjoyed WotLK and Cata, they shouldn't. If trade and general chat is amusing to them, they shouldn't. If their typing is peppered heavily with leet/netspeek, they shouldn't. Probably best to leave WoW players in WoW.
I understand population is a huge thing for MMOs- it's a reason WAR tanked for me personally. Filling out a new MMO's population with content WoW players is like using toilet water for Kool-Aid- it'll work, but you probably won't like how it turns out.

HA!
If you think tab targetting and warrior charges and rogue combo points are just things all MMOs have, then be prepared for RIFT to have the same population and their nuances. RIFT fanbois already sound just like WOW fanbois.

Are you serious? How can you like it? Sure it's nice if you only want to farm gear as fast as possible but other than that...
I love the social part in MMOs but blizzard completely ruined that in wow.
I think that there may be a great amount of gamers who just don't want to deal with Blizzard aka Activision and/or Cataclysm for various reasons anymore, but basicly still prefer questbased, linear themeparking. To those, Trion is offering a value product.
Trion is also smart to release at a time when alot of WoW'ers may notice that after some month of Cataclysm, WoW really has nothing left to offer and therefore may look for a change.

Nice article. I also covered many reasons why a WoW player should quit for Rift in my thread here:

What makes you think Vanilla Rift is going to stay that way ?

A WoW player content with WoW has absolutely no reason to try Rift. Infact anybody happy with their current MMO has no need to play another one

I recommend WoW players give this game a shot. I mean, it'll certainly be familiar to them.
