hmmm, he might think it's too big but I think it's perfect.

    No, it really hasnt.

it's a small world with every inch of the map filled with a safari park of mobs that one quest or another sends you to kill 5 at a time.

Do you feel the mobs are just there because of a quest or are there also mobs because...well, because they are there?

Edit: actually a stupid question, since the Rifts should deliver lots kind of these. I just criticized another game because of this in my old youth. But if the world has some beings which needn´t to be killed: more feeling of a world.

The mobs feel like they are in enclosures in a safari park, into which you are sent to kill them, if that makes sense. No inch of the map is left unfilled in this way.

In terms of world size, it's around the same size I would say as Aion. It's certainly no Vanguard (or even EQ for that matter... there are no Karanas that I have seen).

how is that relevant? we are talking about world size, and I said it was the same size imo as Aion and nowhere near as big as VG.

Making the comment it's certainly no Vanguard - of course has a negative connotation.  I'm just showing that one of the guys responsible for it thought the size of Vanguard ended up hurting them in the end.  Maybe perhaps Trion agreed?

Vanguard was very large. In fact the game was the biggest game I have ever played. They didn't need to add additional continents or anything since it was so massive.

I didn't play at launch since I heard it was plagued with bugs and issues. They got most of that straitened out a year or so after launch and had a re-opening of sorts but by that time the negative old buzz about the game kept crowds from checking it out. When I tried there was almost nobody anywhere to group up with past the newb area of the game. It had good intentions but it's a dated example at best.

I am trying to avoid playing the game right now as I do get bored easily when I 'repeat' too soon. With opening day only a month away (less now) I want o make sure things are pretty fresh. I would say though that grind leveling in warfronts is quite doable. I got into them so I could get my first 'blue' and just kept right on queuing.  Had a boatload of fun. Even when I wanted to be grind killing critters for my craft items (which was also fun) the WFs kept pulling me back. I tend to not be a PvP type but they were ....kewl...

No, it dosent, and it wasnt intended to, you just chose to take that from it. it's a statement of fact, nothing more.

Maybe, but I am specifically talking about how the game feels due to it's chosen size.

It feels, to me, like a safari park of mobs that I have been allowed to go in and hunt, 5 at a time.

Having every inch of floor space populated like this dosent help.

It's certainly no <put direct object here> does generally mean a negative.  At the very least it can be interpreted as such.

The mobs are tightly packed together.  Some do see it as a bad thing, I don't.  I like having to fight my way to get to where I am going.  Regardless, Scarlet Gorge offers room for exploration that people have been asking for.

Heh, imagine Rifts in a world like Vanguard.

I believe one of the Devs was asked "Is your world big or small?". Imagine you ask a man "is your penis big or small?". He answered correctly "it is medium".

I think and hope Rift has different qualities. One of them seems to be massive battles. Another one seems to be the team itself trying to make a good brand. This is what I hope most for - it shouldn´t harm their existing games.

There's quite a few zones we haven't seen yet.  A few have been cut for launch, we'll see if the game opens up even further down the road.

Remember I'm sure Trion has upped the mob density and spawn rate for this massive beta.

I've played in all 5 beta's now.  My main toon is 30.  I haven't done a quest since level 16.

Two starter zones --- one per faction is not going to make for fun replay value.   It is like Aion all over again.   The linear nature of the game in the first few levels is also going to hurt it.   Then we come to other annoying things.   If you are going to make a map, put names of places on the map(more than just Silverwood) and not just the few major cities like Sanctum.

Going to have to do better with combat sounds as well(though I will say that getting close to death in this game is really cool the way your character breaths and her heartbeat thumping and the screen starting to change color and all - very cool!).   They rest are not that great.   Like when our characters get hit or knocked to the ground she makes no sound.   This needs improved.   Same goes for archery.  The sounds are not that great.  Also why can I hear other peoples combat like I am right in the middle of it and they are 20 - 30 - 40 meters away at times?  I thought that was odd and it can sometimes be annoying.

I am going to write up my preview of this game.  I have tons to cover, but I am again, going to tell the good and the bad.   To many of these games get over hyped.   I am guilty of this with this game all ready.  I should have played a bit more.  I have and I am not convinced the game is anything more than a WoW wannabe.  It gets some thing right that WoW gets wrong...but then because it clearly is almost a duplicate of WoW - right down to the UI and how it functions(even key bindings are all ready set up exactly like WoW) it is trying to be so much like WoW only better and yet it misses the mark.    Water areas have no fish, no fauna.   I dunno what those cave thingy's we come across near some MOB's are(the Goblins and what not), but they look silly.  In WoW a cave is a cave...a hovel or hut is a hut - not just a facade.

Anyway...I'm not sold on this game yet.

I am going to play out the rest of this beta event and get as far as I can with it than write a preview.   I suspect that I will do try to do one more preview after the last beta event - but the game is due to be launched when - like Feb 24th for pre-order people and March 1st for all others.   That is not much time to fix all that is wrong.

Some very valid points on this.

Games should try to emulate some things about WoW for sure.  But that is one thing games seem to miss about WoW.  It takes ideas from other games and polishes them.  And improves them. And adds the Blizzard spark.

I think this game has the polish.  The rift thing was improved on by Trion over the PQ system from War for sure.  But what else? The soul system I could give you being different and better.  But after that, mehhh.    I don't think they thrown in enough change or their own spark to really have that HUGE catch.

Definately does not make you feel like you are closed in.. This game has a huge open world, I will be uploading a few videos soon here so i can show off the rift system and what not. Rifts are so freaking awesome dude. They just spawn all over the place anywhere at anytime and there is always crowds of ppl around to have fun with at these rifts.

It's not just the rifts either, they have all these other kind of events going on, bosses and mobs appearing out of nowhere and hanging out in the streets attacking players..  They got alot of events, not sure what they all are called but maybe one of the other more informed rift players can explain it.  I wasn't at all psyched about this game , up until I played beta 3 and found out how awesome it was. I'm kind of a rift n00b, but I am sure if people just try it out for themselves and not listen to the BS fanboyism going on out there, that they will wind up loving this game.
