Can we interview him again in a few days? You know, after he's gotten some sleep and isn't running on his twenty-second cup of coffee.
Christ, look at it. His answers are nearly incomprehensible.
You're right, I can't read any of that non-sense they typed. I knew I couldnt be the only one to notice that
You're not the only one. It did look like they had not slept for days or that the person typing up the interview was on pain meds... which ever lets get a better interview please.
thats why I didnt like DCUO, the game was not complete when released... they rushed it. But I do like CO better than CoH of course I have not played CoH since shortly after the release of CoV.. its prolly better now than before, but I like games with economies and CoH didnt have one when I played, it was kill the baddies, buy your healing and such then do it again... no professions, no auction house and no banks...
CO could use a better profession matrix, and it would be nice to have HQs for supergroups.
Cryptic licensed my favorite, and arguably the best, most creative, superhero, or any other genre, pen and paper role playing system and then did bleep all with it. While certainly a meatier game than STO this game is still a pathetic shadow of what could have been. For me this game isn't even worth playing for free. Shame on Cryptic's cheapjack assembly line MMO method, and shame on Hero Games for letting these twerps use their brainchild no better than a two dollar whore.

Completely Free to Play = no more revenue for the company = no more new content = no patches or bug fixes = no programmers to do anything for the game..
How fun would that be? A game that never changes what so ever.. it would be like a console game... never changing, never evolving.. unless you buy every single new update that comes out... kinda like WoW but without paying to play....
What people are missing here is that the archetypes do not make you gimped... you arn't as strong as a subscriber 'who knows what they are doing' (its easy to make a crappy build)... even then they arn't much stronger. However, every archetype is viable for every aspect of the game, from how I see it (and I know the system very well).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
I use to Dread that I had bought a Lifetime Sub to CO but now Playing after the new patch im glad i got a lifetime sub...I think all you people who are complaining are just ignorant...And DCUO isnt all that..I have played the Beta and I will NEVER pay for a Sub on a game that has no main story and i have to get right up to my TV just to see the chat....I would much rather play CO than DCUO...I mean come on..Yall Complain about Cryptic Screwing everyone and then Praise Something SOE helped with...SOE did more Screwing than any Developer out there in my Opinion...
After playing DCUO And Trying CO DCUO wins in terms of Game graphics, mechanics and control. However CO does have the much broader Customization going for it. Sadly thats about it.
Initially yes, but as you level up in DCUO you gain a great deal of different looks that allow you a large amount of flexibility in terms of looks. Additionally the ability to swap out your looks at anytime in DCUO is a very good feature.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
I think the archetype system is smart. Anyone who played CO will tell you that sometimes the power and advantage system can get very overwhelming. Archetypes make it easier for someone who doesn't have much investment in the game to get started. With the free form system, a free to play player who gets overwhelmed or makes the wrong choice and makes a gimped build will just leave. With a more class-based system it's easier to just jump in and play.
Calling it glorified trial is just unfair. You can get through level 1 to 40. It's hardly a trial. You can "finish" the game without ever paying a dime. This is more than what can be said for a lot of imported F2P games, which usually after some threshold the grind becomes so tedious that it's practically impossible to advance without spending money.
Its free, you can play the game entirely from 1-40 whitout paying anyting ..what more can they do.. DDO you -must- buy packs. (or spent a year grinding 20 hours min to get the points)
Its not as shiny as DCO but far superior when it comes to controlls, mail system, customisation, Chat / cht-window/taps ease of use. Ui controll. ( did you know you can fully rearange and rescale about every single UI window/detail) it has far more powersets (gold member) and about the same Archtype sets for silver, and more are comming.
And dont take my word for it.. just try it, its free..
(I havent played CO for about 5 weeks now, seen it all, done it all, but it remains a game I had about 8 months of fun in)
( I did test the Beta f2p-CO and yes, your weaker due to archtype sets (not able to pick the most power full from every set) but its more then playable both solo and team based.)
I will give this a shot, I liked CoH and the pace of this looks fun to play.
Despite the fact that the games were originally developed by the same studio and cover the same genre, that's about all they have in common. I played CoH. I played CO in beta but refused to sub when I saw the lack of response to beta feedback and the decision to go live as it was then. It was just awful and deserved the reviews it got. Some more content has been added since launch. One small step...
DCUO is a good game, don't get me wrong, I liked it somewhat, but not enough to pay 60 US for the PC game nor the 70 USD for the PS game. But I was very disappointed in DCUO in a great many ways. Champions has many of the things DCUO does not, and more. They need more improvement, but all I have seen since I started playing CO is that they have constatnly added new content, or fixed things players said where an issue. They really have worked hard at that, DCUO on the other hand was full of promises of this but how do they fix bugs in an MMO for a person playing on PS?
You do realize ps3 has a hard drive right? It gets patched.content added same as the pc version
Sadly, I tried CO when it came out and it destroyed my computer even on the lowest settings. Only MMO to ever do that and I've played EQ2, LOTRO, and Aion to name a few recent more graphical MMOs that look better than CO imo.
At any rate, everything I read suggests its pretty much CoH/V without all the content, which was a great game but too slow for superheroes imo. Been playing DCUO and the combat is amazing, exactly what i'd want for a superhero MMO.
Playing on the ps3 and its a blast, but the chat system is rough (I can read it fine but its chunky).
CO is even better now, Im haveing lots of fun with the revamped and new content. Powers are better know, old bugs fixed.
I see some trolling against CO's the crap launch, Man, that was more than year ago. Stop the non-sense, 99% of people posting against it never tried the game after f2p launch. Its another game. Im loving it, we had like 1500 people online at any time yesterday and today. People who are returning.
Its a LIE that the game wont get new updates or content, is preconcept a stupid discrimination, the subscribers still there, nobody is leaving, Cryptic is just making more and more money.
Stop the sick bias to DCUO, its SOE is gonna fail. I was in BETA and it I know that game is not a mmorpg, is a console game with RP aspects. Take the DC IP from DCUO and you have a mediocre game.
"Sadly, I tried CO when it came out" well, CO is not that game you tried to play, not anymore. DCUO is not a mmo its a kid PS arcade game with some socialization. Good luck with SOE the killer of mmo. I m telling SOE will make you cry in dispair.

actually it is, the reasons the game was was lame on release are the exact same reasons its still lame. Cost was never the issue.
But your right about SOE's DCUO more fail hero games after fail hero games.
I installed the game... wanted to play the specialist archetype, becuase it was the only one in which i was interested - all else being boring and unimaginary archetypes- saw that i must buy him from the store for 12$.
"In terms of business, we like subscriptions, businesses like subscriptions because it’s a very predictable amount of money that comes in, whereas when people buy things when they want them it’s a lot less predictable"
i read this as,,,,,we would like to put out a crappy product and still know we're getting payed but since consumers werent as dum as we thought, now we have to work for our money.
I've been playing for about three hours now and I am having fun with it, but I can see it getting old soon. IF I had bought this when it came out with the $14.95 fee in place, I would have been very upset. For what this game offers(from what I have seen at this point), this never should have been a full priced retail product. Once I put a few more hours into it, I might cough up a few bucks to the Atari store for some goodies.

That about sums up Cryptic perfectly. Turn out crap and charge more than full price, and be shocked that consumers reject it.
Best thing about this story is, as I type this, there's an ad for DCUO right in the middle of it lol.
I might have to give this a shot now. I declined getting City of Heroes since I don't particularly favor the whole subscription thing and missed out on Tabula Rasa (which had a cool setting for an MMO) so I might have to try this... after it's been patched and we get ourselves an archtype or two for the gadget powersets....

Wouldn't it have been much more efficient to look this kind of thing up on the website? Looking on the Free to Play Archtypes page shows the 8 archtypes that are available. Could have saved yourself some time there.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Let's say CO goes completely free...

There is good ftp that lets you enjoy the game without a big investment, like ddo. Then there is a game like CO.

Calling the day that CO admits it failed a banner day, is interesting spin.

Is it just me or this guy doesn't seem too happy about the F2P move ?
