    Right

I also have 6850 , and run it on ultra - 30 fps with AA + shadows ( I am perfectly happy with 30 fps - and if i turn of AA i get 50fps)

    BUT!

    I have to ask you.

Do you have strangely garbled textures on ground of rift invasions ?

I would provide screenshots. But i am on work right now.

My rig is (bear with me, it's a copy/paste version I use on forums because I was bored having to type it each time):

    AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition @ 3.5ghz (Zalman air cooler) - Gigabyte MA770-UD3 Motherboard - Radeon HD6870 1GB DDR5 @ 950/1150 - Soundblaster X-FI Surround 5.1 - 4GB of Transcend DDR2-800 memory - Antec TruePower New 750W PSU - 2x512GB Seagate Barracuda 3500418AS SATAII (Raid0) - LG DVD Writer and Samsung Blu-Ray reader - Hanspree HF237 23.7" Full HD (1920x1080) and Philips 200WS 20" (1680x1050) Monitors - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

With that computer, I run Rift on Ultra, with edge smoothing and also anisotropic filtering maxed out, smooth as silk, no noticeable graphic lag or slowdowns to unacceptable performance even in character heavy situations like rifts. Not a single graphic bug or texture corruption either.

Using the 11.1a drivers for my ATI 6870 card, 1920x1080 resolution. Neither my GPU nor my CPU overheat either (I'm constantly monitoring them). I just checked after playing several hours, maximum CPU temp 49°C, maximum GPU temp 65°C, which is very normal specially considering both are overclocked.

Respect, walk, what did you say?

Interesting. I've upgraded to the latest drivers, the latest application profile and I've gotten absolutely no improvement. Which driver are you using and what is your profile, if you don't mind sharing? I'm really on the verge of giving up, since I've not had this much trouble running a game since AoC (even then I could manage to get it to run somewhat on a terrible machine with some driver tweaking).

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

Yeah, I am at a loss. I have updated drivers for both graphics cards and motherboard/cpu. Nothing helps.  I have turned all the settings down to minimum. And still this game overheats my computer like nothing I have ever seen. My computer has never overheated on any other game/application I have played/used. I am lucky if I can play for 5 minutes before my computer jumps 12 degrees centigrade and shuts down my GPUs.

Bummer, I was looking forward to this one. If anyone has a real fix speak up.

The latest drivers are not always better. Sometimes a game that is working without problems will be broken if you install the latest drivers. Often new drivers fix problems with some games but other games that was working will get problems instead.

IMO, its best to first read what people have to say at rage3d before installing the latest driver. And also what people that plays your favorite game think.

It can sometimes also depend on what ATI/AMD card you use. Perhaps the driver is fine if you play a specific game and use a 5870 but if you use 6970 it is not working...

The 4650 is a relatively weak gpu, even more so in a laptop. I'd consider Craigslisting it and putting whatever you get into a new rig. A $100 gts 450 will get you better results but at a minimum I recommend a gtx 460 or 5830/6850.

    I use a Sapphire Vapor x edition 5850 1gb @865/1200 clocks

    8GB OCZ DDR 2 1066

    AMD Phenom X4 @ 2.6ghz

Windows 7 pro 64 bit edition

    On a 24' monitor 1920x1080.

I updated my drivers to 11.1, went to log in Rift and could not see anything but a grey screen at character select, I actually got in game and had major graphical issues, mainly most of the world was grey with no textures.

I uninstalled drivers and used driver sweeper to remove everything, installed a few others including 10.12, 10.11.

Got to 10.9 and now I dont have any problems. Peformance could be better I think but its easily playable. On ultra setting range from 35-45fps roughly in the open world. Crowded cities, rifts, ect I avg. 20-30fps roughly, depending on how many people are crowded around.

On High settings I avg. 40-55 fps or higher in open world, 30+ fps in rifts and crowded areas.

Turn shadows off and I get 10-15+ fps boost to above numbers.

I would like more fps but the game runs smooth with no hitching, rubberbanding, ect so the 30fps isnt hard to play on.

I have an ATI HD5770 with 1gb. Using the 10.12 Drivers in Beta 6 resulted in the best performance I've had in Rift so far. I can't run anything that uses the Unreal 3 engine at all, but Rift finally seems to be working out pretty good.

I have noticed that Anti-Aliasing causes a much bigger load on my GPU in Rift than other games. With most other games the load for that one feature is negligable.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

i run an ati 5750 and it sucks..i was getting 15fps around meridian, could'nt believe it...so i,m thinking of getting nvidia gtx 460..if someone can tell me how many fps they are getting with one of those, just has a guideline would be nice.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 graphics card and I play the game with no problems. ATI cards seem to have trouble with shadows (so turn those off) and the AA they added was throwing off my system so I would recommend turning that off if you had it on.

I guess I get decent performance with my ATI card compared to a lot of people (not even using recommended drivers) as I generally get around 30-56 FPS in any given area.  Game does tend to chug during Rift raids, as I've seen the framerate dip down into the teens.

It would seem that this game does still have major issues with a single brand of cards and given their heavy promotion of Nvidia, I'm entitled to loose even more respect for the game than I already have.

To OP , maybe the problem is something other than your card or drivers , I have noticed in my own rig that when the PSU is getting bad everything gets very hot , idk just a thought.
