This should not be the selling point of the game for everyone who has posted so far.
Anyone who says that the OP can do what he wants like this, is straight up lying through their teeth or has not played the game for more than 15min.
This is not possible, nor will this be possible with the current game mechanics set in place. There are things that a person will absolutely need, that they can not get in just any place in the world. The Dev team has also designed the crafting system to where it is required that you interact with other players. During Prelude, this is slightly different because they need to test certain features. But, during launch you will not have access to all the crafting skills you have now. Even if you did, you would still need to frequently go to areas where there are trash to scavenge and gather in large quantaties to build pretty much anything.
Yes, you will have acces to all the skills, thats not gonna change and Prelude starts March, 1st (we're in beta now).
Playing solo will be hard though. You'll spend a lot of time just gathernig something to eat (food will deacay just like every other item), also your items won't be as good as someones who mastered the skill so you'll have to replace them more often(more grinding resources). So the most valid way to solo is to specialize in hunting or taming(when living in the woods away from tribes) and trade your high quality goods to tribes.
I can't wait to jump into this game. I made the purchase yesterday and I'm downloading the client as we speak. Everything I hear about this game appeals to me...a real virtual world where you can do your own thing rather being led down a path. I know its going to be rough around the edges, but that doesn't matter...I'm gonna love this game I know it. See you there!

OK guys I need to know honestly is this game worth the money? Im old school SWG player will this game appeal to me?
Honestly I can't answer your question. What I can say is that game looks stable and devs team seams to do a good job. It needs some tweaks, but nothing gamebreaking. I don't know how gameplay will look like after launch, it's totaly player driven so we'll have to see how it evolves. Most of the features were coded already, poorly though, and needs reworking so I hope new features will be added frequently.
Combat is twitch-based, but bugged so it's more like spamfest right now, it shloud be fixed soon and has potential to be realy fun.
If you think about it you get 2 months free 2x15$ and 2 weeks headstart 7,5$ so it leaves 2,5$ for the game, or am I wrong?
So if you have spare 40$ it's worth a try, no promisses though.
I just hope it won't turn out to be gankfest, Jooky doesn't want that from what I know so I hope he'll keep it balanced.
Great topic, thank you, OP. Made me consider this game as well as many other people who read it. This game has very high chances of becoming some kind of UO with normal graphics. A game that'll make you want to roam around and explore the world once again...
I've got a couple of basic questions to people in beta, though.
1. How cute the game world is, actually? I've seen some youtube hd videos and they aren't very promising at best. I know that videos can differ from gameplay quite a lot so would love to hear players impressons. Is the world cute and interesting enough to make you want to explore or is it dead and blunt?
2. How open is PvP in the game? I am a strong supporter of full open sandboxes and open PvP but the game forums and mechanics make me worried that it might attract a very big number of potential griefers who will pretty much only play the game to ruin it for everybody else.
3. Is there any story at all and how open are RP possibilities? Are there any RP tribes or a RP community? RP server (I do think there is only one server, though)?
4. Where is the game server located? I'm guessing somewhere in US? If yes, how important is low ping in the game? How much will European players suffer playing it with higher ping, considering game mechanics.
5. Haven't found any long videos explaining / showing fishing mechanics. How is fishing in the game? A big fan of fishing in pretty much any mmo I'm playing.
Thanks in advance

No fishing tutorial but if you choose fishing as one of your starter trades you will get a fishing rod and extra skill points so you can start straight away. If not you can always get a rod built and start from there, fishing is a stand by water and click skill affair, that is how it appeared to me so maybe more involved than that.
I found it quite relaxing and I can imagine at release with more mobs and players on the look out for an easy kill you will need to stay alert.
Here is a set of tutorial videos made by a community member, pretty awesome they are too...

1. Can't really answer. My fps is low on high settings. World is based on Lake Tahoe region (satelite and geological data).
So different regions look somewhat alike, I like exploring though Sometimes I find a lake with multiple waterfalls or small cave. I like exploring in the night when you can barely see. You go through the woods and wonder if that thing that moved is a shadow or a bear.
2. PvP is open with safe zones in tribe areas. Jooky doesn't want it to be based on PVP, and griefnig can be reported. I hope he'll be able to balance the game.
3. The story is simple World as we know it has ended, gods and mytihcal creatures come to life along with some magic, rest of the story is up to players, we'll get multiple gods to pray to, creatures like Big Foot based on local mythology.
RP might be fun and there are some RP tribes, There will be no global chat and trading will be local( I think) at tribal totem. Quests are local as well. So no spaming chat with trade and recruitment. Local chat will be limited to probably one zone or smaller, theres also tribal chat and in future group chat and guild chat.
4. server is in Chicago. I'm from europe and ping is aorund 150.
5. Fishing is simple. You need a rod and some water, then you sit by the water and cast your rod until you catch something, in the future we should get simple traps for animals and maybe fishing nets as well.
wow, thank you for all the info and responses on this.
I may have to look into this by the sounds of it. Also I would never want to master every skill, I think that is the surest way to ruin crafting and a game is if you can be the Pro at every single thing(looks at FE). Interdepency is key for any player economy to work and be interesting. Even if I play some wild woman from up in the mountains I naturally assume I would be good only at a few things and then have to find a couple trusted trading partners or some areas that I could raid and escape with other goods I may need :P
So the game is wiped clean on March 1st and starts then?
How many characters can you make, I hope not more than one or two?
So there is taming and you can have animal companions? What about horses as mounts or is that not in yet?
I was out getting some fish to eat near my tribal hideout and seen a neighbor cut down a tree and make some small logs. He grabbed one and started heading home with it (long ways off too). So I snuck in and grabbed one and took it off behind a tree a short distance off. Then I went back and grabbed another, then another, then another. By the time he got back for the 2nd hunk of wood there were only 3 left out of 18 in his stack. The rest were all hidden in the tall grass. I waited for him to look around while I hid, then he left. I spent the next hour carrying all my new logs back to my camp and set them up next to my fire. Ate my fish and chuckled at my good fortune. Fun fun.
My god thats classic. If I was 90% sold on the game(and I was), now im 110% sold.

The game is wiped clean on 14th of February, the headstart for preorderers starts then.
You have 1 character per account.
Taming will be in by launch or very soon after that, tamed animals can be mounted as well (if they are big enough I guess, it would be funny to ride a chicken lol).

This is so untrue, thanks for registering to MMORPG to make this one post. So you are calling me a liar? Nice try at slander :P
Do not listen to this person. I have spent the past week living on completely on my own. Has it been tad harder having to make everything myself? Sure, but it is doable. The devs aren't suddenly going to change this in the next week.
I to have lived entirely on my own for the past few days, up in the mountains I have made my paradise. I built armor out of grass, and even made a big teepee for the cold lonely nights. Earlier as I was walking along, I noticed someone fishing, his back turned to me I thought to myself "I would love to be able to eat fish instead of the seeds and plants I have been foraging." I decided that I was going to take his pole. I equipped my knife, and killed him. I quickly grabbed his fishing pole and sprinted off as fast as I could. When I got home, I had a feast.

In no way am I saying this game is perfect, but its been a damn long time since I have had this much fun. There are problems, and ill be here till the end.

From what I read the combat has some problems, so it won't be as much combat-orientated as SWG.

Heh, buy it for me as well, best friend! XD
