I've just spent the last 15 minutes in the Beta event for Rift - first time I've been in.
You'd think that in the genesis of a new game as hyped as this one, players would be discussing game mechanics or the graphics style or game performance....but no. For those entire 15 minutes, they argued in chat about....you guessed it....how bad Wow was; how good Wow was; how WoW compared to Rift.......you get the idea.
For the love of all that's holy, will this never end.....
Nope sorry. It NEVER ends. just the other night i logged into vanguard and someone metioned how they just started the game and had just quit WoW. the next hour the chat was filled with people dissing wow, discussing wow etc.
it NEVER ends. WoW chat should just be banned from all other games. So flipping tired of hearing about wow and hearing the same tired old discussions over and over.
I don't know if I would be able to stop laughing if they added WoW and Warcraft to the word filter.
Considering that Trion released a commercial saying 'We're not in Azeroth anymore', I expected this. It's Open Beta. ANYONE can sign up and play for free right now. It makes sense that those who have an axe to grind would be motivated enough to do exactly that.
The main reason i left WoW, was its terrible community, I just could not stand 90% of ppl I met with dungeon finder, and every time i red somthing in trade/general I got sick of all the crap...and then i entered Rift beta...all that idiots were now here, taliking all that crap from WoW trade channel in Rifts channels... and guess what...everything was about wow....examples:
how rift is better/worse then wow
what class is like warlock????
can I make a shadow priest?????
is there a hunter with pet???
how can i be like pala in wow?
Is mage here op like in wow??? and so on...
and yes there was a guy named worldofwarcraft...
btw i find this game to look more like warhammer and not like wow
I think that issue doesnt have to do with specifically the wow community. I have learnt that the "terrible" community you speak of, is everywhere in every mmorpg. The issue has more to do with the players that play online games in general. And if you like everything about Wow except its community as you claim, and you're switching games just because of that, i'd advise you to seek a different solution. There are gonna be annoying 12 year old-mentality dips!@#$s in every single mmo, you have to learn to deal with it, changing the game title will not help you.

Most of them are WoW refugees floating around due to cata being hard for some guild,in my server so many guild disbanded and other dramas and not being able to progress, they all are shifting for easy game like tank n spank raid bosses which is all you get in rift raids.
Because any content before the max level in WoW isn't exactly what you described.
One more similarity between those 2 games added to my book.
If you think Rift is all zerg spamfest, you know nothing of Rift.
I know a lot about rift to not buy it in the first place.I 've reached level 23,couldn't bother forcing myself to keep playing wow combined with war with the adition of a different story.Good for you if you liked it though, but its not right to missinform people just because you preordered the game.

The main problem here is alot of fans of Rift don't want people giving Rift bad reveiws cause they think it is Gold. I though, do want to see what people feel about certain games and how they handle. That is the point of this site. We can come and see the good and the bad of whats out there. Alot including myself may not be getting this game because it handles exaclty like WoW theme park and Rifts are just like Warhammers public quests. I know I do have trouble with this game being that way and I played in every beta so far and been to 30.
If noone tells how they feel them people who want info will not know what to expect. If I am advising someone what the game is like I would use the above description. Sorry there are some that don't like Rift being described like that. My answer is don't take every post personally and go have fun with Rift if that how you feel. Funny thing is even the option screen is exactly like WoW's. Now this can be a good or a bad thing for people. For me it made it easy for me to set up make hotkeys and such. To some they lose respect for Rift because they feel its such a ripoff.

This. ^
Everyone seems to have forgotten that Rift practically "challenged" WoW with their trailer.
In my book, if Rift talks about WoW, then Rift should be able to take the blows of WoW (Or in this case, WoW' community.)

dont count on it -- just a few months back, the same chat was in 2 other MMOS I play off and on -- trust me, it wont end after launch.

Reaching level 23 tells you almost nothing about the game, besides experiencing elementary rifts and the first few starter dungeons. You didn't like it, great. But don't tout your opinions as facts and "missinform" others about it, too.
In general I usually just leave the level 1-10 chat channel as this poster described. Once you get to level 10, people are finally "normal"........in an abnormal way
Good advice which will be followed - but it's the mentality that gets me. What is it with these people? Blizzard must be laughing their socks off when they read stuff like this.
I wouldnt be surprised if some of them were actually blizzard employees -- of course not all of them, or not even most -- but prolly a few.

While I'm sure Blizzard is paying attention to RIFT, they have a lot more productive things to do (and maintain their top titles) besides trololol Level 1-10 Chat.

Oh well i guess then that you can prove endgame is different than the raid/dungeon/battleground farming every game out there has?Cause if the gameplay feels the same and the endgame too, then you dont have to actually reach higher levels to realise if you like the game or not.It will apeal to the new players in mmos, but it wont be much of a success to the older players.
Its basically the same in any open beta, I've seen it so many times before. the chat goes crazy with comparasing and rude chat, but not everyone will be around when the game launches. So you can be sure it won't be as bad then.

This I agree with. You shouldn t have to reach a certain level to find enjoyment, in any game. I had alot more fun in WAR at early levels then Rift by a long shot. You can make a decision on a game in less then 23 levels, because if it bores you to not want to log in before that, then the game won t appeal to you at all. I remember hearing, wait till after tutrial area the game really opens up. Then it was 20+ the game gets way better, now it s higher? It isn t going to change much after that except maybe a few new things. As I said if the game isn t grabbing you by level 23 then it won t.

Go back to your trashy game then.
This.
The UI is almost identical as well.
Only thing this game really has going for it is rifts and the soul system. Other than those two, the rest of the game gets a big, huge MEH from me.
Someday, but we may all be dead by then.

No,not while WoW is top dog.
