Played through it several times as all the classes right now, it's pretty good imo.

Combat really improved a lot action-wise, I started playing out as a rogue and while it takes some getting used to after only just finishing up some DLC of Origins, it's a big leap forward.

The rogue really plays like a rogue now and you have tremendous potential for movement and control in this class combined with heavy damage dealing. Archery is much improved and both a great deal of fun and is powerful right now.

The other classes also feel distinct and powerful in their own way.

People who are claiming this is a hack&slash aren't paying attention, there's definitely a lot of potential for strategy and combo's in the ability trees and while this demo was locked at normal difficulty (and pretty easy), I definitely expect to be forced on strategy at hard and nightmare levels (as the devs stated this was their intention).

Negative points are the environment of Lothering, which was very bland and monotone. In contrast, the little bit of Kirkwall that I saw did look nice.

Another negative is that Hawke's facial expressions don't really seem to be up there with the rest of the characters.

Also, some emotional moments at the start of the game weren't as emotional as they should have been imo.

Heh, I like what they are doing here with the demo.  Nice PR move to drum up some interest, especially amongst item collector type folks :)  Really like the complete the demo get a weapon for the full game.... almost as cool as the old apogee and 3dRealms demos that were the first couple levels of the game so you just continued on when you bought it :)

This thread is in the General Gaming section so why does it matter if it's a mmorpg or not (which obviously it isn't).

I finished the demo yesterday after some serious technical issues with V-sync crashings...  All I can really say is that I hope this demo is a very very early build of the game.  Character run animations are just crap (don’t even get me started on the female Hawk’s run…) and combat is just downright epileptic.  The darkspawn run so fast and so animated they look like they are straight out of some Japanese anime game...

I pre-ordered the game for $25.00 some time ago so I guess it won’t be a complete loss.  Here’s to hoping the full game is less of a spaz-fest.

Yes, though I tried to avoid spoilers ;)

Dear tap dancin' christ on toast... what did they do to the Dark Spawn? They look terrible. Not really liking this having a voice thing either. Animations are a bit better, especially with the mages I think. I think all in all, I'll wait for the price to drop before buying this one, doesn't feel like a sequel to DA:O to me. Then again, I personally feel Bioware hasn't done anything particularly amazing since Baldurs Gate 2 SoA/ToB.

People dont seem to know what a demo is.

There is no way the segment of gameplay was designed specfically for the demo and the real game will have an actual lead upto what was going on.

How many bioware games have you guys played? When have they EVER done a half assed story? Where youd ont know what is going on, and you dont care about any of the characters?

Bioware failing at telling  a story is like Nike failing to make a good goddamned pair of sneakers. You people need to use some common sense and start picking out what aspects of the demo where designed specifically for the demo and which werent.

Obviously the lack of character customization, inventory options and story were just for the demo, how do i know this? Well it says it in big red letters at the bottom of the screen when you play the demo...

Overall, I was pleased, by the demo. I figure it'll look better when we're able to use DX 11 anyway.

My only huge gripe was, as mentioned before, the new look for the darkspawn. I think the new look is kinda silly and lacks the dark, evil, demonesque look that the DA:O darkspawn captured so well.

Eh, I'm still glad I pre-ordered. I get the feeling this demo was an early stage of the development for some reason, so I'm not worried.

Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, EVE, LotRO, AoC, RoM, FoM, CoX, PotBS, GW, SWG, VG, PS, and others.

    I had a great time.

The combat was one of the worst things about DAO in the sense that, when you told your warrior/rogue to use an ability, they stumbled a moment before moving forward.  On your mage, they would turn or move slightly before casting.  When moving your melee into...melee, they hobbled along taking damage.  They had no rush.  You moved slower in combat to close to melee then normal.  Also, your rogue, when trying to get behind, shuffled along to move, even slower then trying to close to melee range.

In DA2, your melee actually close the gap quickly.  They don't hunch over and slow down, still taking normal damage.  They run/jump/rush in.  The combat is a bajilion times better, for sure.

Many fights have waves.  So rather then just throw 10 mobs at you at once, they throw 7 mobs at you, with another wave of 7 after 3 or 4 have been defeated.  Bosses had bigger bars and certain mobs did too.  Stats other then strength/will for your warrior matter. Crit from dex, crit damage from cunning.  Meaning, just putting all your points into one or two stats won't work as good as spread it out a bit.

The ability trees are different.  I wouldn't say amazing or bad.

Characters faces are showing more emotion.  But certain textures are pretty low resolution.  I'm hoping that it's just the demos case, and not like the first one that took a mod to become high res.  I did notice that much of the DX11 stuff was turned off.

    My biggest dislikes.

Textures, for sure.  I didn't feel all that emotionally attached to the family at the start.  My lines for JUST that point seemed very, lol who cares!  A few other tech issues, mostly related to the dx11 stuff.

I am glad though that people that do not enjoy this type of game can label me and anyone else who might like it certain bad names :P.  I think it was pretty well established a while ago what type of game this was going to be.  It wasn't going to be a "sandbox rpg".  It was going to be a more actiony DA2.

I played through DA twice and really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to DA2 and still am, but the demo was the wrong combination of elements for me. The new combat is certainly a surprise and I'm not sure I really like it yet.

Graphics are definitely very nice on DX 11 and the interface has potential, but I don't feel it's possible to tell without having access to it in the way you would use it in the release. i.e. too many parts of it are disabled.

Still, I do love Bioware and I'll be surprised if they mess the DA IP up.

Yeah you can't really judge much from this demo...jsut some of the combat,a taste of tyhe skill/levelling system and the storytelling.....everything else is completely locked out.

Gonna have to wait for a few reviews before I lay down any cash or wait for a sale.

I didn't know this, but are they for real coming out with a movie!?!

Seemed decent enough, the only thing that is keeping me puzzled is why DX9 and DX11 are options but not DX10.

I was thinking to download this game after I saw this thread. Anyone got an idea or review of the demo if the game is good or not. I wanted to be sure. I don't want to waste time to download it because my net is slow.

    is the demo good?

never played any dragon age before. I would like to give the series a shot.

is this game standalone or do i need to play dragon age 1 in order for me to understand the storyline?

I know myself I wasnt really looking so hard into picking this game up. Not that I didnt like DA:O I just didnt really care much about this game. After playing the demo on PS3 I will for sure be grabbing this one. I thought the graphics were really good and the combat imo is improved 10 fold. Its much faster paced and still holds the must react to survive aspects that I like. You must keep your eyes open, if you just let your mage get hammered by 2 or 3 mobs your whole group is in trouble. Small baddies must be taken care of quickly when fighting boss mobs.

I also really liked the amount of tree choices when it came to skills. Lots of different playstyles suited imo. Im interested to see the character apperance stuff and inventory stuff when the real game comes out. I feel like the game has much much more goods in store for me when I pick it up. I was also a big fan of the cutscenes especially at the end of the demo.

All in all this demo has for sure secured DA2 as my next PS3 title.

They dont targeting the older generation they just want new generation who plays console games.

DA2 looks asian animi console looking fast pace kick ass super ADHD spaztic combat hack and slash fighting game, this game has nothing to do anymore with eather baldurs gate series or even DAO.

Try playing DA:O on the console.

Sure the plot/story/setting/writing was absolute qualitiy but the actual gameplay mechanics was a piece of poo poo.

The PC version was a lot better (yes I bought for the Xbox360 and the PC) though.

They sided towards the console this time around which makes sense.

Sales numbers for console vs PC on DA:O is so one-sided, i'm surprised BW is even putting it out on the PC.

Thanks for the information guys I'll look into it and download it. I want to see the gameplay because im a fan of this game and I like the graphics and storyline.

I played the demo  and didn't really like it that much. I want more an RPG, not a console button-mash fest.

I thought it was going to be like Drakensang, well more like an RPG.

  • ItilosItilos Member CommonPosts: 39

One thing I particularly like about DA 2 is the new combat-dodge mechanic.

My entire party ended up dying on the ogre except me, and I was able to dodge all his attacks, and even made him hit the darkspawn a few times, which I thought was a nice change.

I remember the ogre's unavoidable charge in DA:O that was always annoying.

Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, EVE, LotRO, AoC, RoM, FoM, CoX, PotBS, GW, SWG, VG, PS, and others.

I really do have enjoyed Dragon Age: O and Awakening, in fact, for me the reply values continues as I still play them. I held my pre-order due to what I had been reading. I played the Demo and its all good but damn, it feels like a PS3 game. I do not play other platforms but my freinds do, you know the kung-fu ones. When I played the demo it looked just like that, the animations and all. At least in the demo it felt more....guided to me.

The good side is that the cut-scenes are excellent. The females walk/talk/move extremlly...real. Not that I noticed...because I am married, only that they are the best I have seen in a game. In the demo all the females look rather...well developed topside. Not to mention well shaped.

I am just going to wait until my partner buys it so I can see more but as it stands for me, I will wait. Thats a lot of cash.
