31 servers currently up....all with tremendous ques.
Rift invasions all over the place and not one server hiccup....I of course play on Shatterbone and that is the only one I can speak for....no lag 35+ fps everything turned up even in the middle of a rift invasion with 30-40 people all fighting....(I don't have a great system either....dual core 3.2 amd.....PCIE 1GB HD 4800 series ati vid card..nothing special). Not one server crash at all. Had to log out to go get my son...and now the que is 3hr and I am 701 in line LOL.
I think they underestimated the load. My prediction all 49 server up BEFORE launch....
Umm, I thought they had around 47 in beta? So they have less than they had before?
Yeah they said they would have 29 servers available for headstart then 20 more for launch day for a total of 49...well we are about 7hrs into headstart they have 31 US servers (thats doesn't include the EU server count) with ques. in the 1000's so we will see how it plays out.
And this here is why despite buying Rift for sure it won't be at launch When I get word from my guild that the queue on our server is gone and the starter area isn't shoulder to shoulder I'll activate my key Meantime... back to alpha :O
...then please understand that this is normal. Loooooong queues are NORMAL.
Naw, if what people are saying is true and they have 10 hour queues, that's not normal. The only game I have ever seen that was Aion and people went crazy on the forums about it.
I don't know how bad Rift is because I don't play it, but most queues of launches are 1 hour or less, or none.

WoW had insane queues on launch as well. Its only a few servers like that on RIFT and those are servers that were targeted by a large number of guilds from other games. They have been adding new servers since they started this morning.
Cheers!

Hah im one of those people forced into buying this game after launch or around launch due to me spending my paycheck so quickly this week lol.. So i guess this works out better so not EVERYONE is days ahead of me when i get a chance to log :P
jk that sucks that Trions having a tough time, but usually they take care of these things quickly as they did during the beta.. I remember several betas when people had long ques and some where you couldnt even log in, and within a day (usually hours) Trion found someway to fix it.. I have faith things will be ok until March 1st, when Trion might experience even more players, but after that should be ok..
AION had these troubles at launch.. I know lots of people said they couldnt get into a server for weeks but they are exaggerateing.. I was able to get into my server with perfect connection within the 2nd day.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
The game is live for sure, but I can't imagine the bulk of players are pre-orders. March 1st will be another round of server pounding. And yes queues have been very very long. Where Rift and Aion differ is NC Soft said... no new server for you =P and Trion said... 10 more... 2 more... 2 more... Read somewhere they are up to 50 now.
2.5k people in line PER SERVER is unheard of Triton got totally caught with their pants down and anyone trying to justify it is so bias.
Most big mmos release have a little to no queue

Just remember that queues don't mean full servers, it means full zones. There is only 1 zone per side for each level range and when you reach middle levels they even share the one zone. I bet most of these servers aren't even at half capacity so come actual release day the queues won't be as big a deal.

I'd be willing to bet most of the people that plan on playing on day one just pre ordered and got into the "head start" (aka, the real launch).
What you're describing very much sounds like the launch day of Aion, and perhaps even WOW, but not all games launch this way, I recall LOTRO and Lineage 2 going fairly smoothly with few queues.

I was logged in at 5:59 GMt and have only now just stopped because they brought the server down. There was a zone invasion and 50-60 or so of us were getting creamed by this giant iron golem. Lots of fun.
I get folks are hurt over the long waits and not getting on. you would have thought that the pace of technology would have moved forward. Budets moved backwards as folks expectations ran forwards. Never an easy combination. While sucky for some I do thing that this is fairly typical of a MMO opening (not launch, opening). I didn't even get to play Aion for 24 hours so I consider myself a winner this time around. Headstarts are not for the impatient. I'm sure things will stabalize as the game moves along. Most MMO have rolling population numbers that ebb and flow throughout the day. Only at opening will you have such an amount of players logging in concurrently. Just give it time.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

Hence the headstart and staggering server launches. In other news marathons also have one starting area =O On launch day its a bum rush for spawns and nodes... a month later you'll be glad you aren't alone until you rejoin the other starter area toons in zone x.
My personal favourite whine on the offical forums is people asking for server moves to lower pop servers... on day 1... as level 6 toons /facepalm.

Not that i've followed rift much or plan to play it, but I listened to a podcast where trion devs stated that headstart is in essence, the 'LAUNCH DAY'.
Pretty much the same deal as when Aion's head start launched.

That's not true there are only a few servers with queues that long. Most queues are under 600; still lengthy but nowhere near 2,500.
The biggest queues are on the servers chosen by groups of large guilds to be their Rift home.
in 2-3 weeks this will all level out. I hope there are 15-20 minute queues to play during prime time for a long time.
Just remember that queues don't mean full servers, it means full zones. There is only 1 zone per side for each level range and when you reach middle levels they even share the one zone.
