My son is going to try Rift, only because I decided to play. HIs 6 RL friends who play WOW with him have no intention of trying it and several had never heard of it until I talked to them about it. (18-19 yr olds)
I have a RL friend in WOW who's has several family members playing with him, (40-55 yr olds) same story, no one planning on trying Rift.
Rift appeals to disaffected WOW players (of which there are many I realize) but I don't think the term "most WOW players' really applies in any situation.
Unless of course you know only 2 people in WOW maybe?

Most of my WoW playing friends don't care that Rift exists.
In my experiance its mainly younger players that don't really care if it exists or newer players that hav'nt done most of the content in WoW . Old timers ( both in terms of age and time played in WoW ) generally speaking are intreagued enough at least that theres something else half decent out there . Which is proberbly why RIFT started with over a million players and depending on its longevity that could only rise given the likes of gw2 etc could be over a year away . It seams to have come out at the right time .
Well you can argue this way or that way. You might also that, that mostly older players don't really care if Rift exists. After all, they are more experienced and less likely to fall victim to a hype where no hype is justified. They know what they want, and can even through the hype identify games that might not deliver what they really want.
I am sitting here with an open mouth, when I am looking at all those servers. Whatever the situation will be in 2-3 months, but for now this is very impressive for a No-IP game and Noname team (I don´t mean the devs, only the name).
And this is "only" Rift. There still is GW2 and TOR somewhere in the future... just wow.

Well I saw 2 servers with high load, 6 serves with low load the rest were at medium.
Give it a few weeks for the new to wear off then we can start making statements that are not hyperbole.

Rift might be a wow clone, it certainly wasnt the game for me when I played beta BUT
IT is a very polished and well produced MMO and for that reason alone I wish them all the success in the world. Maybe now other MMO developers (Funcom, Square, Crypticshit I mean you) will understand that a good launch is the KEY Element to an mmos success and that a good launch doesnt come down to marketing that you can buy, it comes from producing a game to a high standard and not releasing a buggy unfinished mess.

Look at the EU-servers which are at the bottom - only 2 are low. LotRo released with 8-10 EU servers, WAR I can´t remember anymore. Both were big names. Please no discussion about "look, what happened to them now".
