Yep...happened to me in reply to a post that someone else made - just mentioned my dis-satisfaction with Cataclysm and said I had canceled my Wow account and went over to Rift. This was my original post:
Cataclysm was the last straw for me.
Here's a multi-million dollar company releasing an expansion calling it content when it's mostly just a re-do of the old stuff with some sprinkles of re-packaged BG's and the same ol same ole Raid for gear blah blah blah.
After trying Rift http://www.riftgame.com/en/ since launch day last week I quickly cancelled my Wow account. This game is not just a Wow clone like I've heard so many people say but rather a blend of many MMo's just done much better.
Graphics and atmosphere of the game are stunning...the Rifts are basically open world raid content that can happen anytime, anywhere and can be joined by anyone just be clicking on "Join Public Group".
Pure fun and smooth as silk gameplay with so much potential. Servers atm are all med to high with some actually full and the public Rift/Raids are sometimes 60+ with NO LAG...NONE. No bugs etc etc.
Blizzard will have to earn my money in the future because right now they're just plain fat and lazy.
You think maybe that last line pissed them off?
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Comments
It was the website that pushed them over the edge.
I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for the link, you wouldn't have gotten banned.
Yup that was it.
My theme song.
That entire post sounds like you are trying to convince other people to start playing rift. I'm sure that alone was enough but the link to there site just made it look even more like you were trying to get people to switch games.
Blizzard's running scared now.
I suppose you're right - they probably have a search for anything RIFT because man I got banned like 5 mins after I posted it.
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Yeah, the link to the Rift website in your post is what justified the ban. Your post kinda came across as an advertisement for Rift also, so you can't blame Blizzard for the ban, that was all on you.
Cata did seem like a lazy release, I will say that much about it. Polished, all the little things right, but all-in-all it seems they spent more time in meetings than playing it. Maybe they were seeking some sort of technical perfection that intersected with opinion polls...
Let's blame Kotick.
Gotta agree with the other people.
Linking to Rift's website did it. And in my opinion was in poor taste. Defeats the point you were trying to make irrelevant and makes you seem fanboyish.
You get no sympathy from me, I think you deserved it.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
A do-gooder or a rabbid mod most likely reported you. You know how that is...
I think he's mostly proud of it, doesn't seem like a cry for HALP.
Or they might have a program that does keyword searches on the forums for website links and automatically flags those posts as either "spam" or brings them to the mods attention.
It's more likely some jackhole whined fast. I doubt Blizzard cares that much about their forums, usually the cry babies and the heavy handed mods take care of things of that nature faster than HAL could.
I could go try and link something harmless and see though.
From your face!!!! Ouch!!!! That one burned you so bad it burned me!!
YES IM BEING SARCASTIC BEFORE YOU WARN ME.
You think Blizzard cares? They're already working on a new MMO and they plan to milk WoW dry. They ban because of a lot of reasons. The link and the fact his entire post went way off topic.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/ Do you see an Off-Topic section?
Edit: Oh and don't bother with calling me a WoW fanboy. I am currently playing Rift. If you don't believe me message Aerir on the Keenblade shard.
I've canceled my account also. No i'm not a supporter of Blizzard, if you were wondering.
It just seemed a little obvious why you were banned if you really were that is.
Believe half of what you see and nothing that you read on an internet forum.
Screenshot or it's not true. lol.
I don't see this as WoW being scared of Rift. If you provide a link to a competing MMO, I think any game will ban you from the forum. Maybe you didn't mean to but that post of yours totally came off like you're only goal was to Troll and not bring anything of quality to the discussion at hand. If I was a Mod, I would have banned you too and this is coming from someone who has only played WoW during it's free trial (1 week) and that was over 5 years ago.
First off, if you're playing and enjoying Rift, what reason did you have to visit the WoW forums?
When I find a game I like to play, I don't visit the game's competitor forums...
It's rather brainless to say Blizzard has created a bot to monitor for the name and/or link of a competing game. No programmer would invest that much time in something like that. Besides, most forums have pretty robust search tools. You could probably search for the word "Rift" and easily find anything with the word "rift."
Someone saw your post and thought "holy shit, this post has absolutely nothing to do with this forum" and then reported it. Because you know your post had absolutely nothing to do with the WoW forums... you do realize that, right? That's why you got banned.
There's also most likely legal issues with advertising a product (without the product owner's consent) on a direct competitor's private forums... something to do with authorized public representatives.
edit - Food for thought, I got a temporary ban from a gaming website for posting a link to a different gaming website. You need consent from both parties before posting anything that could possibly be conceived as an advertisement, regardless of your intentions.
this made me lol
You know I've got no horse in either race, neither of these are games for me. The OP's post was not the best to make on a Blizzard forum, that being said none of it warents a ban, delete or edit the post don't ban the poster. Unless of course this is a repeat offense.
^^ This ^^
Do you know for certain?
Maybe Blizzard's just like some of the rest of us here and are tired of posts about this 2nd-rate WoW knockoff cluttering up the forums.
hehe...
I guess it sux to be a WoW player at this time...
OP could have been somewhat more diplomatic and not linked straight to the website.
What do you think Coca cola company would say if you post something similar saying why you changed to Pepsi and linked to www.pepsi.com?
Sorry OP, but it sounds like a trollpost to me (on the Wow forum, not here).
