I hope nobody is naive enough to honestly think Rift scares Blizzard in any way. WoW is just a cash cow at this point, even if they lose a huge chunk of the player base it wouldn't really bother them because their focus is on the SC2 expansions, Diablo 3 and their new MMO title. I'm sure the other big titles coming out worry them a lot more than Rift in the direct competition market in the first place.
I'm not the biggest fan of Blizzard anymore but essentially you advertised another game on thier forums by providing a link . So while I think a perminant ban is heavy handed I can understand why it was done . If you were to do the same in the RIFT forums about WoW I think the outcome would be similar .
On the topic of whether RIFT scares Blizzard I think the word scare might be a little too strong . There would be some concern that it could effect thier buisness but that would be normal in any company .
Whats most likly being discussed is how they can take RIFTS ideas and incorporate them into WoW as they have done with other games . Expect something similar to the rifts and invasions in WoW soon .
RIFT for me offers what WoW once did but does'nt anymore . Blizzard lost the plot somewhere along the way .
Blizzard will have to earn my money in the future because right now they're just plain fat and lazy.
You think maybe that last line pissed them off?
Actually, You are correct. YOu used the word "Blizzard". I pulled the following off the Forums code of conduct.
" these cover more specific examples of common errors that will lead to thread deletions or posting privileges being revoked."
Using the words "Blizzard," "Blue," or any community team members' names in a thread topic is frowned upon.
Everyone would like Blizzard to read and acknowledge his or her post, and we understand that; however, use of such words in the subject line does not help that come to pass. Please make your thread title relevant to the post subject. Threads violating this guideline are subject to deletion.
Posting links on their forums will get you banned. This is how I got banned from the WoW forums in 2007/8, not sure. It has nothing to do with the fact that you're hating on WoW.
Although my account isn't banned anymore since they switched to the new forums. So I am a happy panda now with a completely functional account
All yeah, your post is childish. Very childish. Why can't people realise that no one cares that you are leaving. Don't want to be mean but your post was a bait for flaming/trolling + links. So you deserve the ban hammer!
You seem to care. You seem to care a lot. Anger noted.
Linking to Rift's website did it. And in my opinion was in poor taste. Defeats the point you were trying to make irrelevant and makes you seem fanboyish.
You get no sympathy from me, I think you deserved it.
WoW fan?
I don't think he was looking for sympathy.... nor do I really think he cares about getting banned. I think the point was to show how he went out with a bang... and for that I give him credit!
It's business. If I owned a coffee shop, I wouldn't want people coming in and handing out flyers for the shop down the street. So it does make sense to ban people for doing it.
lol don't know why some fanboys are flattered. This happens every time there's a game release. Happened with Champions, WAR, Aion etc. Pretty much those posts just lead to endless bickering back and forth (much like here!). Posting a link to the website and practically throwing out a sales pitch didn't really help your cause.
Imo, the best part about your post is how you bash WoW for the same ol bg's and the same ol raid for gear bit, but what exactly do you think the endgame of Rift holds for you? I think you might be in for a rude awakening.
I didn't see anything there that would deserve a ban
Seriously though what did oyu think would happen?
When Rift launched I decided I would get into the head start so I bought the game the day before release. I canceled my WoW account that Thursday night. I'm tired and bored with WoW but I don't care to tell them in any other way except by cancelling my account. I did say ion the reason area why though.
Yep...happened to me in reply to a post that someone else made - just mentioned my dis-satisfaction with Cataclysm and said I had canceled my Wow account and went over to Rift. This was my original post:
Cataclysm was the last straw for me.
Here's a multi-million dollar company releasing an expansion calling it content when it's mostly just a re-do of the old stuff with some sprinkles of re-packaged BG's and the same ol same ole Raid for gear blah blah blah.
After trying Rift http://www.riftgame.com/en/ since launch day last week I quickly cancelled my Wow account. This game is not just a Wow clone like I've heard so many people say but rather a blend of many MMo's just done much better.
Graphics and atmosphere of the game are stunning...the Rifts are basically open world raid content that can happen anytime, anywhere and can be joined by anyone just be clicking on "Join Public Group".
Pure fun and smooth as silk gameplay with so much potential. Servers atm are all med to high with some actually full and the public Rift/Raids are sometimes 60+ with NO LAG...NONE. No bugs etc etc.
Blizzard will have to earn my money in the future because right now they're just plain fat and lazy.
You think maybe that last line pissed them off?
Who cares since you canceled your subscription. This is immature...just let it be. I do not think actually that some1 care for you.
Rift are now closing/locking threads about people cancelling their accounts...
Thats because they never had any account to begin with to cancel:)
Which is odd, because you can only post on the forums if you got a subscription. : )

Your signature takes away any doubt that your response is merely one fanboy backing up another. As far as going out with a bang, the post was deleted and the OP was banned, and his $15 put a subatomic-sized dent in Blizzard's $140 million in monhtly revenue. That's not going out with a bang, that's the doorman not even noticing you on the way out.
I see GW2 taking over the NA market. With their business model and experience, it just seems the most likely. When ToR and GW2 come out Rift is going to have a tough time retaining subs. I find it hard to believe that Trion isnt fully aware of this. My guess is its a cash grab, they'll work hard on Rift until winter then take the money they've made and focus on their next game. Its pretty smart and think Trion have a bright future ahead but I think it's silly to get into Rift thinking it will be a lasting experience.
OP you seem to spend a lot of time in forums trying to convince people Rift is superior to Wow, you might want to get paid for that if you aren't already. Also, do you want to paste what i wrote above, add links to GW2 and ToR and post it on the Rift forums for me?
tahts not running scared.... if ur gonna persuade ppl to leave a game and join another game... dont post that in the first mentioned game.... or u know u can be banned (or at least warned, depending on the content of ur message) and the message of the OP here is very clear that he was risking to get banned

if he didnt care about getting banned, why would he bother to post that on mmorpg.com forums? to scare wow players with the excuse that they can get banned by talking about rift on their forums. therefore, they need to stop playing wow to avoid a ban?, or maybe to warn players from other games not to touch wow cos u can get banned for talking about rift there...... he would have posted this original post on WoW forums and not here... or maybe just nowhere... it clearly shows he cared about the ban he got
Absolutely you will get banned if you advertise for a competing game and insert a link to that game's website, encouraging other readers to visit it. You're entitled to express your disatisfaction with WoW under free speech. You're even entitled to express your satisfaction with other games. But your post came off as an all-out anti-WoW, pro-Rift advertisement.

He posted here because he thought it would make Blizzard look bad ("look at this low blow Blizzard threw at me!"), similar to his post on the WoW forums. He's currently pro-Rift/anti-WoW, and it's all an effort to get others to join his cause. There's not much conversion to be done here, however, as these forums are dominated by anti-WoW MMO players
His story has nothing to do with resentment at getting banned or instilling fear in other players who may be inclined to talk about Rift. It has everything to do with painting Blizzard as the bad guy and Trion as the good guy. Except numerous objective viewpoints on this thread have already admitted that Bizzard wasn't at fault at all, and both companies remain good guys as far as this story goes.

O my. Is that pool of radiance? I loved that series... but I was playing pc rpgs long before it .

Personally, being banned from that sh*thole site wouldn't bother me in the slightest... look at it this way, you have been liberated!

Why is OP surprised ? You are using their resources to get ppl to stop playing their game and play another, thats completly unethical.
Including a link is advertising, not surprised action was taken against you.
