The first major update to Rift since its launch last week will take place today. Scott Hartsman stopped by the official forums to give users a peek at what's in store when they log in post-update. Some of the things to expect from the update include improvements to XP gains from Rift, Invasion and Foothold raids; better item stack management; the ability to view more quests in the tracker; and more.
On top of ongoing new content and large feature development, many of which you’ll be hearing about on our site and others, there are some other, smaller improvements we’re working toward – I wanted to call these out specifically since they’re pretty frequently commented on.
Mages. Yes, we’re both listening to you and paying attention to the post-launch gameplay data on our servers. While a well-played mage does do extremely well, and mages are very well represented in the overall number of active characters, there are issues with competitiveness in some low and mid level ranges and certain combinations of souls, due largely to mages’ overall fragility and cast times.
Mail Spam. Chat spam protection has been going really well on the whole, which, predictably, pushed spammers into mail. We’ll be putting more protection in place there soon.
Event Contribution. This system is being reworked to be more in line with the idea of events being massively social occurrences, and the focus on abilities themselves will be going away entirely.
Anti-Hacker Protection. As a very high priority, we’re working on new and interesting ways to help you make sure your account is protected from password phishing and keyloggers. In the short time since head start, we’ve already banned a couple thousand spammers, hackers, farmers, and thieves. We’ll continue improving our detection and ability to take action on them well into the future.
Dismount and Exposed. Expect some changes here as well.

I'm having a blast playing Rift. It's like WoW...for grown ups. They are already adding content since the launch was so smooth and they don't have to worry about fixing much. Good stuff! rock on !
Nice! The future of Rift is looking bright indeed. Since they don't have to spend the first 6 months of release getting the game into a playable state like most other MMOs, they can focus on tweaks and content.

You mean a level 2 creature won't knock my level 20 toon off his mount with one hit now? Thank you.
LOL! Isn't THAT the truth!?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I still look frumpy...

Its incredibly amusing that its been called a content update while all it really is is bug and exploit fixes just like in every other game. Yes, its good to see the problems are being dealt with, but lets not blow it out of proportion.
WOOT mount system fixes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that had to be one fo the most annoying thing about this game.
This is good news. Here is a developer that listens to it's playerbase and acts accordingly. This fact and their ability to turn out a finished polished product is going to insure that Rift stays a viable and interesting game on the market.
YOu have to give Trion the thumbs up for listen to and working with their community.
I'm under the impression that they are releasing another 10man raid. I have a question about that, is the first 10man raid so easy that people are blowing through it in a day or two?
Part of what made WoW so popular is that there was dungeon crawling in raids where some people wouldn't see the end of it for weeks. Are they releasing the next 10man because people already blew through the first one?
They added 10 man raid rifts.
Raid rifts are new content.
New content in an update makes said update a content update.
Logic is fun.

Yet, I dont read anything about addressing it other than have a nie day? Did I miss something?
Holy boatload of patch-notes! I'm installing the patch now and I'm reading through all the updates. My favorite is the fact that xp is returning to beta levels for RIFT's and invasions! Woot.
<---- was wondering the same thing
Bah, i've seen people say that but it's not true, any lower level creature it takes a good 3 or 4 hits to be knocked off. Tho i think being knocked off at all by anything but your level or higher is the way it should be.
Nah I've been knocked off in one hit by a low level mob a few times.
The way I read that is, they are acknowledging your concerns and even though it didn't make it into this update, they have found validity to your claims and are working on fixing it.
It didn't need a fix, people just don't understand how it works.
Beginner mounts are skittish, they scare and dismount you easier when taking damage. Level 40 mounts are sturdier, and you are not dismounted as easily, and Level 50 mounts are steadfast and you are rarely, if ever, dismounted at all.
Didnt log in for about 4 days came back and all my gold and items were gone. Havent had any kind of phishing or keylogger all my other game accounts are safe. I bet they need to work on their protection we will see how rift address my situation if they dont chose to lend a helping hand I will be moving on.
But wait I thought this game was baby jesus with no bugs
I kid I kid. Still, no one answered me. Was the starting 10man content painfully easy which is why they need to release the next 10man?
The new 10 man is what, 5 bosses? Are these more like 10 man instances or are they really raids? (Oh how I hope I don't have to explain the difference between the two). Do you go in and complete it in an hour or two without knowing the place inside out and knowing all the strategies?
I'm curious because my gf might be forcing me ot play this and that's pretty game breaking for me (mainly because I already don't find the game much to jump up and down over).
Also when, if ever, do the Rifts start requiring some actual skill other than zerg rushing? I played beta till about 20 and every rift/event/bs thing I did was just tagging and tank spank. There would be a knock back here and a dot there, but it was mindless zergfest for the most part.
There wasn't any 10-man content at launch, jesus. They JUST ADDED IT IN THIS PATCH. Also, it's 10 man raid rifts. Just read the patch notes instead of spending the time typing posts, maybe?
You played to lvl 20, and things were simple and easy. What MMO have you played that was released within the last few years that HASN'T been this way? EQ was even easy pre-30 (or 35, can't remember when the first really bad hell level is.)
Hey, how about before you get defensive and get your panties in a wad, you could just answer the questions or ignore the thread.
I'm talking about people that are playing the game telling me that the Rifts are mainly zerg fests and simple tank and spanks.
In an attempt to try to get another opinion (assuming that he could just be biased as an original wowhead) I come here and I get ALTERNATING CAPS for it?
Come on guy, there's liking a game, and there's being a douche over a game...
I actually haven't sub'd to Rift, but I am keeping a close eye on it. Played therough the betas, wasn't very interesting. It's just annoying to see someone asking questions they could easily answer on their own, and then wondering why nobody responded.
You said that you (there, no capslock . . .happy? It's just another form of emphasis) played to 20, not that you heard such from other people. Having played the beta up to 42, I can safely say that the rift events do infact get slightly more complex as one levels through the different zones. Also, they become quite a bit more difficult when it's not launch (or beta, as the case may be) rush with a million players around you.
I still don't know if I want to subscribe. I felt tired of the game at the end of B7- not sure if it was because I knew the character I was playing would be deleted, and thus felt no real connection/sense of value, or if the game really is just that uninteresting. If they're banking on endgame content being the only interesting content in this game, I'll definitely not buy it. Still waiting for more people to hit 50 and blog/post reviews. Raiding and grinding the same dungeons over and over really isn't as interesting as going from area to area as with leveling.
User rating actually went up from 8.4 prior to launch to a staggering 8.7 currently. Not a small feat if you ask me, seeing as how most MMO didn't fail to disappoint.
I played Rift in beta, and I believe it is a very solid game experience — best I've seen since WoW, and you can actually compare the two. I did not sub yet because I believe the box price tag is a bit high (I'm less and less inclined to buy a full-priced box if the game requires a sub, this is not related to this specific game). But I forecast it's only a matter of time before I actually jump into Rift.
