Be careful what you say. That’s the lesson BioWare forum user Arno has learned in the last 24 hours,
after comment : "“Have you sold your souls to the EA devil?”
on the BioWare forums has led to his EA account being locked, such that he cannot play his purchased copy of Dragon Age 2 !
Now we are not talking about MMO here. No. Its normal single player he purchased and played on his private computer.
Something like this never happened before. Some companies banned users from their MMO for posting ill comments on public forums. But even that was rare and shunned.
But to ban person from single player game he purchased in total ?!
What will they do to their MMO users ?

I hope he sues them and wins.
If I ever get banned from a MMORPG- for ANY reason, I immediately get my $15 back. If that is through them, my bank, or paypal-- it doesn't really matter. They can't charge me $15 for a service and then take away my service. (Don't bother replying with "Yes they can!" as I already know. But no, no they can't.)
If I got banned from a SINGLEPLAYER game for ANY reason, I'd probably end up suing them in small claims court (not to mention also pirating their game while the lawsuit is occurring, hahahahha...)
If I was really off the wall (or on a real vendetta for justice) and the courts failed me, I'd just put on a mask and mug the CEO for exactly $15. If he only had 20's in his wallet, I'd make sure to give him an untouched $5 bill in a plastic baggy.
I'm sorry, but you simply cannot sell someone a product and then say "Just kidding! *YOINK!*" It just doesn't work that way.
If being a developer means being quiet, mature, well-spoken, and disconnected from the community, then by all means do me a favor and believe I'm not one.
Answer to the question: Yes, apparently they have.

Boy, I remember when EA was cool. Now they behave like a big oil company, I wish there was someway to knock that crown of their heads, shame on them, how disappointing
Wow, that's just... wow. What an unbelievable pile of BS that is. EA is really stretching what can be put into a EULA, IMO. But you know what, I'm fine with that . The more restrictive companies make those things, the closer we get to someone finally challenging them in court.
I do NOT recognize their right to lock me out of a single player game just because I made a silly comment on the forums. I'm sorry, but I don't see any sensible court in any nation maintaining the legality of such an action.
THIS.
Good luck Bioware fanboys.
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
BTW , Eula's are not legally binding.
There was court ruling few years ago in USA , deciding that.
They are more of - policy guideline - but not contract
That's pretty much my view on it. People seem to forget that EULAs have to be reasonable to be enforceable and every time a company takes an action that most people would deem unreasonable, their legal position goes into the crapper.
There was no such general ruling. US courts have accepted EULAs as binding depending on how reasonable its terms are.
err..
all that guy said was "ea devils"
i mean really.. ea can be my name..
go google ea.. so many ea came up..
never use the games fourms. problam solved!. i never do and hence i never have issues.
A troll gets punished. I hope to see more of this in the future.

Ha ha ha! So true, and also the reason why many a fan-forum has more users than the developer's forums ;-)
Wish more companies would do this.

wow... no more ea games for me if this is true.
the banning is bad enough, but if it really prevents one from playing the game, which im not sure it does, that woiuld be the last straw for me....
i still can't believe what blizzard pulled with starcraft 2...
just wow

Amazing and terrible thing that he got banned but lol@the talk of lawsuits.
People actually need to start reading EULAs as well. They're setting the terms of their service, they can put anything they want into it so long as those terms don't cause you to break a law or facilitate that a ct. Seriously... if they wanted to, they could say "User will maintain the most up to date software. These include latest versions of operating system, antivirus and browsers." and if you click yes, you're agreeing to do it. They've a right to enforce what you've agreed to.
It's why I love some of the more casual companies like Google. ToS agreements that aren't novel length and don't deliberately confusing and beneficially ambiguous text.

Nah, just a low tolerance for childish behavior. I don't blame them.

Guess your not going to be playing too many games since EA had it's hands in a lot of pies.

Dunno about the US, but Dutch (and I guess generally al of Europe) law has a lot of stuff that companies drop in their EULA marked as illegal. No matter what a EULA tells me, I always press OKAY and go on. If I really have to, I can get my right at court.
...and then they say the USA is the country of dreams where everything is possible...
Psst the Dutch. What have they given us other than clogs.

A forumban I understand, still a bit extreme for that single statement but ok, stuff happens.
Banning you from your own singleplayer games that you bought and thus you own, that's totally over the edge and insane. I hope people manage to put the heat enough on EA for this, as this is unacceptable.
Amusingly enough, I can foresee the predictable reaction happening in this thread of BW/TOR haters to conveniently use this opportunity to trashtalk SWTOR again
The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I have always thought a required internet connection for a single player game was just completely ridiculous.
Donuts, windmills & dikes..? :-D
Ok since I am fat I respect the donuts. Long live the Dutch!

First thing, not in response to the above qoute. The guy actually insulted the moderators and was offensive to them. So the ban from the forums was warranted in this case in all honesty, it was an act that would get you banned from most forums. However being banned from playing the game is bullshit.
Second, in response to the post above, the information we have is the guy cannot register the game to play it. Therefore he has not agreed to an EULA for Dragon Age 2, and therefore cannot be bound by it. In most cases where the is no real legal precedent, especially in a civil suit (at least here in the UK) it comes down to what is "reasonable." I think most people here would agree that a forum ban was reasonable, being banned from using software you paid for is not.
