Honestly, Rift would do better not to mimick everything WoW does.
I.e., No automated LFD, actually adding player housing, no arenas, no phasing, etc, etc.
Working to be more of a clone of WoW is a surefire way to fail. If people want to play a WoW-like game, they'll play WoW. A lot of the people playing Rift are playing it because they're tired of WoW. As such, making Rift more like WoW will just push away the players who wanted to get away from WoW, and the players who are begging for WoW-esque gameplay will ADD their way back to WoW regardless if Trion makes Rift more like WoW or not.
we'll see after SW:Tor comes out. It might not "kill" any other games but you can bet your sweet moobs that its gonna cause an effect in the mmo community like no other & every other mmo & even some non-mmo games will be affected by it.
Originally posted by Jamkull it may have as much PVE content but it lacks terrably when it comes to PVP content than that of WAR or even WoW at launch. as in the battlegrounds etc.

Aside from Arenas, Rift PvP is comparable to WoW PvP right now. Arenas are a small portion of WoW's audience and I could definitely live without them. There is talk of adding RvR, which would be a better addition than Arenas (imo).
I'm only just now getting into Scarlet Gorge, but there is plenty of PvP, especially on a PvP server. As long as Trion can avoid end game PvP that necessitates buying levels, I would say that Rift's PvP will easily be comparable to Warhammer's.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I think numbers don't matter. Has long you like it and you have a few people that like it to, you got yourself a party. I'm with you when you say "there will be major MMO's comming up and they will clear Rift eventually has well". Well, of course, nothing is eternal, not even WoW with all his glory... not even with dozen of cataclysms in a year (one each month, changing the scenario). The world they created was original, great lore, great everything... but nowadays, it is just used and abused... I mean:
- Mr T'Mohawks
- More race/class combos
- Even more races
- Odd alliances
- The killing of almost ALL major villians in their game in the hands of players.
- etc.
Lore is overrated, it is true... but like a huge dough, the more you spread, the more thinner it gets until it breaks into pieces, and so it is their world. In the beggining, people admired for beying a huge dough that could end on a huge bread. Now, people see they aren't even using the dough to make pizza instead... because it is too thin and falling appart.
I'm not bashing wow... I like their lore... or liked, now it is simply too streetched that almost everything is possible.
_________
When you played warcraft 3 and learned their lore, could you even GUESS the Blood Elves would join a faction after all that has happened?
- YEARS PASS AND WE NEED TO EVOLVE THE STORY -
True... true... but there are things you CAN'T simply pass or "evolve", like destroying a old monument to build a fast food restaurant... you just can't or would make any sence.
________
When you played "vanilla" wow, would you guess that the worgens in guilneas would join the alliance? I mean, why would the humans of Stormwind EVER let the Guilnean enter their city? And don't come with the "night elf" part because those guys weren't even supost to be on the Alliance if you think about it.
- NOW YOUR BASHING THE NIGHT ELVES FOR BEYING IN THE ALLIANCE? THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN THE ALLIANCE -
Long before wow was born, there was warcraft 3. They showed the elves didn't like the orcs because they cutted their secret and ancient forest. Okay... why would they join the humans if they clearly cut wood too and have little respect for nature like an orc?
_______
More I could say about the things Blizzard just skipped and "evolved" to PLEASE the large number of MMO players with their dough (lore). When I learned more about the lore... the more I saw the holes and flaws on it. Don't even tell me how it was to RP with their "super streetched" lore. Their universe became more of a "sustain the players with funny situations" then actually make things have sence with the lore they have.
If you think about it... there shouldn't be a alliance or horde has you know... there should be (picking the playable races we have at the moment into factions):
Alliance: Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes (They always have been friends since warcraft 2)
Horde: Orcs, Trolls, Taurens, Goblins (If you played warcraft 3, you would know)
3rd faction: Forsaken, Blood Elves. (Because the Silvermoon Blood Elves wanted to fight the scourge... and who better than the enemy of my enemy to be my friend like the forsaken... and only them after the bad experience they had with the alliance and why would they join 'savages' like the Horde?)
4th faction: Night Elves, Drainei and Worgen (Drainei crashed in the Azuremyst Islands... that would be Night Elven territory, therefore they would start by having a straight relationship and the Guilnean because they got cursed and the night elven been very interested in their health since then... and you know guilnean don't like any other human empire).
I think they can't streatch more in that universe... they can't if they want their dignity in that title. They could just end it up like guild wars, that stopped making expansions and streetching their lore for quite a few years to make a sequel (that they are still developing with the name of Guild Wars 2)... At least guild wars stopped streetching the universe they had in mind long time ago instead of cutting and putting clue until you reached the point that Mr T is trowing mohawk grenades because of a stupid contract they had for publicity.
Again, I am not defending other games againts wow... I liked wow playstyle and everything for quite a few years, but Blizzard excuses to "continue" to release new features in that universe is WAYYYYYYY off. They had a great universe but all this mombo-jumbo of making the game "modern" ruined the game for me.
And to prove that I'm not ONLY againts wow... let me say something about Guild Wars 2. Alright, the "revolutionary" questing system AIN'T that revolutionary... only a "baby" step away from things that already existed in other kind of games, out of MMO's.
"In our games, you don't need a person to tell you and defend this or that, you will look around and you will use your common sence to help the village and they will be eternally gratefull and will reward you"
When I play a game from 2004, like... I don't know... one of those spider-man games. I go around the city with my spider sences and sutenly I hear a person screaming. I GET near, I don't need a quest, I just get near and the person tells me what is happening. If you want (but you will anyway because you will earn with that), you will help the person. She will point out for that car beying stolen. You start following the car and take out the theft. You tie the criminals up and you earn reputation. There... see? You didn't need a quest, you simply heard a person screaming and the person pointed out, without giving you quest, but rather pointing the problem and you saw it, using your common sences (not spider sences) to make the math and help the person. I can say other games like that or close to that ideia... like... assassins creed. "could you spare me a coin?" You didn't need a exclamation point... if you want, you just give some money and off you go. Simple. You did something without needing it.
What guild wars 2 did was grabbing such systems already existing and transport that to a MMO environment, upgrade it a bit to make it more "common sence oriented" and there ya go... a revolutionary "questing" system.

About RIFT, and that is indeed the main topic here, it is obvious Trion wanted to make a game to stand againts wow... I think the slogan gave tooooo much information. I guess, whatever they do in the future, they will always aim for that audience and will do everything to get to the mountain, even if making more "hint-hint-wink-wink" slogans in their publicity or making patches every week. My forecast (and I say this, even though I like rift) is that it will stay until a new MMO comes out. It's true. It was a game with a big hype, made by people who liked wow but wanted something diferent... and the Rift system looked like it... and let me say you it does... but still it is not enough.
Note that, again I say this, I like rift, but I know it won't last long... unless Trion makes a major patch with flashy new things and twists, like... I don't know... making the Rifts make even a BIGGER impact in the world. I know I know... people already don't like the fact they have to stop their "precious" quests to kick some invasions but wouldn't it be more significant if those rifts REALLY made a impact, like, destroy wild life/mob/NPC camps for a few DAYS and during those days, you would see them beying rebuild by them or looking at small packs of wild life going back to the place? "DAYS?! How will I end my quests then?!" The game shouldn't be all about doing those exclamation points... OR they should open quests to help them rebuild the quest hub or keeping invading forces to mess with their "rebuilding" during that time, make gear for the troops that lost everything in the last invasion depending of your professions. Find people that "disapeared" during the attack. Scout for rest of forces in the area. The choices are many. Of course, for that, the rifts/Invasions NEED to be more rare... or they could just make it "hours" instead of "days" to rebuild.
I see a universe where unicorns fly... and my mother-in-law is in a grave at last. |BEST UNIVERSE EVA AWARD|
