That is very impressive. Also obviously the previous poster hasn't been paying attention to GW2 ( Which who ever said it has phasing must be reffering to its dungeons and/or personal story because the majority of the world is persistant) TOR is ending up more and more like wow every day, it completely destroyed my hopes of something different when they decided to keep the holy trinity, I may put a few months into this game but I really don't know if its going to be worth the fee, though I do thouroughly enjoy the Star Wars setting.
Edit: Haha from Firefall "Dynamic Mission Orders" seems like they're taking the GW2 route.
I am getting dissapointed. Yes it is Starwars, an epic storyline.Yes the graphics look good. But its the same old group roles(tank healer offtank etc and its the same old combo hotbar system.
I still think Guildwars2 is going to be a massive thorn in swtor side. One is b2p and the other is buy then p2p, from the info and videos i have seen gw2 wins hands down.
GW2 is everything about awesome graphics, thats all, but tbh is more like awesome animations, i saw the presentation of Hoth and tattoine, the art style of SWTOR environments are just amazing, beautiful, is a masterpiece, and the worlds are insanely huge from any point of view, we wont find nothing like that in GW2, we dont even have mounts just the same "click on the map to travel", The people of TOR are talking about a pvp system who could change the game world forever, we know nothing about the pvp or even the multiplayer gameplay from GW2, just "public quests" and a dynamic world like Rift, both games have story, but again we are talking about bioware, arenanet is not even a competition talking about story, cmon guys dont get ut hopes too high with gw2, they dont even have a crafting system, after all is just a b2p mmo for a reason, it looks great, but you wont find the content and the features of a game like TOR. So far TOR looks way better than GW2 in everything but graphics (animations), is my personal Point of view? No, is a fact, all you need to do is a objetive comparison and you'll see, easy like that.

GW2 has a Crafting-System, Market Place/Auctionhouse(EQ2), PvP(WvWvW, Structured PvP, etc.). GW2 isn't a graphic heavy game.
My money is on SWTOR as well. I really like the graphics, animations and public events of GW2 but it ends there. There are a few killer design decisions that made me very sad about GW2.
- Open world but instant travel everywhere
- Everyone on the server is your budy in the open world: only npc agro range to worry about, no pvp servers.
- All pvp is consensual and "in a can".
- Crafting system nothing new
- WvWvW will most probably be very zergy, just like all other massive battlegrounds / RVR I've ever played.
- No factions but pitching servers against eachother means Asura killing Asura, Charr killing Charr, etc. Kind of silly from a lore perspective.
Next to that, pitching servers against eachother will most likely result in some servers with large, specialist WvWvW guilds always roflstomping other servers, making them much more interesting to play on for pvp minded folks (and those who want to profit from pve related bonusses this ensures). There will probably be a list of 'good and bad servers' before you know it.
All in all I think GW2 has been developed with more of a younger audience in mind and they make too much sacrifices to realism, freedom and the ensuing, random 'player made content' in favor of avoiding "player tension" and "player conflict" and to promote instant gratification.
It's like they didn't really want an open, realistic and free world afterall. Looks to be way too restrictive for the likes of me. V_V
I still think Guildwars2 is going to be a massive thorn in swtor side. One is b2p and the other is buy then p2p, from the info and videos i have seen gw2 wins hands down.
Star wars has a massive following that will not even consider trading in a good sci-fi setting for a fantasy one. Also GW2 is highly instanced and is unlike a traditional MMO. I will buy it for sure, but it will not be my go to game. I am not knocking it at all. I actually think it looks amazing. Plus Bioware is making SWTOR so it will propably be well worth the $15 a month.
Good to hear that the demo was in such good shape. Hopefully we get a release date soon. I can't wait.
I just want to point out that youre wrong. GW2 is not highly instanced, and in fact wili not be like the old GW, and will now be more like a traditional MMO. I think you are confusing the old with the new. Alot of info about the game can be found here. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/view/forums/thread/287180/Everything-We-Know-about-GW2.html You say your plans are to buy GW2. I suggest you read more up on it
it will have extensive phasing... which are really just instances...
Instances that every single person on that server will be in at the same time... (added elipsis to accentuate the obvious simple truth of my point, to increase dramatic effect, and to just be generally condescending to the above poster who failed to see this simple truth.)
I ain't playin' no game that thinks a rail shooter is the epitomie of "space combat" in Star Wars. Not even if the ground part is a sci fi WoW with cutscenes.
Interesting. Let me just say, until now, I've been very optimistic about SWTOR. Now, I'm very VERY leary.
Is the game simply grind up, start alt, buy DLC? Where/what is the end game? What is the economy? Auction houses?
Yup I have the same questions. But that also counts for Guild Wars 2....
In the end both are themepark MMO's focused on the majority.
You'll have a lot to do in both GW2 and SWTOR at end game.
As BioWare has stated, they will never force you to reroll to continue playing.
Story does not end at max level, neither do your crew skills, nor your world interaction, or gear grind.
You have story, to gain alignment, or change alignment, and how factions will perceive you in the world and what will be available to you throughout your journey.
You have world arcs, some of which will change the world around you, with multiple routes, and you could even experience different endings.
You have vast exploration where you will be rewarded by items, special mobs, etc.
You have special recipes that can only be found and be very rare in the world, thereby making only the most dedicated crafters have the most sought after gear and increases price and value of certain items in the economy.
You have tons of other crew skills, many of which will need to be used in tandem with other crafters to make some of the top tier armor in the game.
You have open world PvP areas, and the possibility of contested areas or planets, gear through PvP, you have ship customization, warzones, heroics, companion customization and missions related to those. Of course you also have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of other characters stories and experiences that you can play as too and I'm sure theres a slew of other things you'll be able to do at end-game that hasn't been released yet, but the options are out there. Pazaak? Pod Racing? (cantinas have been confirmed, but what else can you do in them?). Underworld arenas maybe? (they had those in KOTOR)
From what we know, the end game is pretty vast in its options, how it plays is another story. BioWare also had a "special" end game planned, that they haven't released information on yet.
Interesting. Let me just say, until now, I've been very optimistic about SWTOR. Now, I'm very VERY leary.
Is the game simply grind up, start alt, buy DLC? Where/what is the end game? What is the economy? Auction houses?

They have said what end game will contain numerous times.
Yeah...talk is cheap though. A month before DCUO's release they were taling about secret identities too.
I'd like to actually SEE some of this in action.
@maskedweasel - I hope you're right mate! THAT would keep me playing. I'm just afraid too much is being made of the "stories" and too little of, what I feel an MMO is about, longevity.
From what I can see of the gameplay, the fluidity and intensity of the action here is definitely a plus. Even if this game starts slow at the start, it appears that the progression of combat becomes more intense as you become stronger, and that's what I think SHOULD be going on here. Instead of the classic "pull mob A, run into top-left corner to avoid mob C, pull mob B, etc" that we've come to see in our recent MMO's, this appears to say "We're going to pretty much toss enemies at you, try to survive." Depending on what role you play, such as a supporter, you may see a variation in this action, but when has that ever been different in any other RPG (yes, even going way back to good old D&D)?
Yes, some mechanics do appear to have been borrowed from predecessors, but why on earth does EVERY aspect of a game need to be new to be great? Did Leonardo DaVinci need to start painting with his toenails because brushes were sooo unoriginal? Hell no, he used the methods that WORKED and made something brilliant with it. I feel that, if Bioware keeps its head on straight and just follows through, it can achieve the same. An MMO does NOT have to be a "WOW-KILLER" or a "GW-KILLER" to be a modern achievement.
You know the great thing about all of this? Whether your cup of tea is TOR or GW2, we're going to be seeing 2+ grade A MMO's coming out in the next year or so compared to the stint of failboats and the crap-and-a-half f2p bastard brands that have spawned in last better half of a decade. What we really should be praying for is other companies turning their eyes to MMO's like these two and saying "Well balls...we need to set ourselves to a higher standard."
I just hate the fact that in the video, everyone was a clicker and they made it through the instance just fine....I mean, what does that say for the difficulty of the game? I really hope that there will be difficulty settings even at these levels, because from what I've seen we're just going to blow through these dungeons like you can in WoW....=/
Did it ever occur to you that BW would WoWify, err I mean Dumb down, the flashpoint? It's a level 32 instance, people got virtually no time to learn the characters before being thrown into it. If BW wouldn't have WoW'd the flashpoint down, many most likely wouldn't have finished. The entire point was to show the game to people so they could experience the game first hand and see how BW has changed the game over time. How well do you think you can play any game if you were suddenly thrown into a level 32 character and told to go kill without any time to learn what your skills were for, oh and by the way, your timed? It only takes a little grey matter exercise to come to the conclussion that the game was WoW'd down for the sake of those lucky enough to get to try it out.
Am I the only one soooo pissed they did not give release date or beta date at Pax East?
Nope. I would've loved a release date, along with about 3/4s or of the peeps on their website, but oh well, what can we do.... but wait.... even longer errrrr.
The combat will be fine under ONE condition. You have to be able to run around and move while using your 'instant' abilities. Very much like WoW. If you have to stop, to cast an instant ability, then this game will be taking a HUGE step back from WoW, and will ultimately fail very quickly. That is all.
My money is on SWTOR as well. I really like the graphics, animations and public events of GW2 but it ends there. There are a few killer design decisions that made me very sad about GW2.

Personally, I like what GW2 is doing with PvP. Having a huge persistant zone with outposts, installations and resources is much more fun than the warzones planned in TOR, which are basically WoW's battlegrounds. Also, ANet will rotate the servers based on their performance in WvWvW. So the servers that do well, will be matched up against other servers that do well.
As far as open, realistic and free world goes, I'd rather have a changing game world but without open PvP than a static one but filled with voiceovers and cut scenes.
I get sick of hearing about GW2 being a thorn in SWTOR's side. The truth is that GW2 is a 1 time buy game that has no subscription. If its anything like GW1 then it'll grab up a bunch of people that are curious about MMOs but don't want to commit to a sub. Also GW2 is a pure MMORPG while SWTOR is a SDMMORPG (SD = Story driven) which is unique and new. I think differnt people are already sloted to buy those games and regardless of one coming out with the other they will both do well with their respective audiences.
I still think Guildwars2 is going to be a massive thorn in swtor side. One is b2p and the other is buy then p2p, from the info and videos i have seen gw2 wins hands down.
Except that SWTOR has something GW2 doesnt have, blasters and lightsabers, I'm personally getting extremely tired of all the generic classes and mechanics in D&D styled mmo's.
But meh, gonna play both since gw2 is free, but I just can't see myself getting into another traditional "mage, priest, hunter" etc setting again, I'd like to shoot some laser and force throw stuff for a change and then go into space combat.
