My point is that a solo player doesn't have to expend energy looking for group or sitting around not being able to do any content.

I get your point and it's not wrong, the game is a game that does require groups and that those groups can either be pre-made or created instantly.

I think where the confusion lies is in what is normally considered "group/solo" content and how that content is approached.

So "sure" the game is mostly group content that any solo player can immediately join without any inconvenience.

I think when players ask "is this game soloable" what they are asking is whether or not they can proceed throught the game at their pace or if there area areas where not only must they be approached in a group but that they will have to go looking for those groups which may never happen.

As we know, in Rift (at least for the moment) those areas have plenty of people and the groups are made automatically.

I will say that it's not really a "group" like a traditional game that has "groups". I say that because my experience is that some interactivity is required in those grouping games. One "can" join a rift group and never say one word to your group mates.

I'll even go one step further. I would say joining a rift or invasion group is just semantics as what you are really doing is adopting the same goals as the people in the area and just doing your part. One wouldn't need to join a group at all in order to do rifts or invasions. Being in a group does help players see who is around them and what they are about.

So, a solo player can easily make their way through this game where groups will automatically happen.

So sure, they aren't "solo" anymore. I don't think that really is the issue here nor is it what the op wants to know. He wants to know if he needs to be shouting LFG or if he can do his own thing within the context of the game world's rules.

    How is it for solo-ability?

This is important to me because as it is right now, I play at odd hours and for inderminate periods of time.

I'm an "on-call-respond-right-now" kind of guy who frequently has to grab keys and shuffle out the door. In my experience, that is an unpopular play style in guild environments and even in casual groups.. "what do you mean you have to go? now? you're leaving?"

So.. I tend to play the lone wolf kinda play.

Is this kind of play viable in rift?

I am playing it now, i have a lvl21 cleric and i am using a shaman/druid soul build for leveling, most things are soloable with some exceptions.  Group quests are not very soloable unless you are quite a way over the level recommended for the quest, and even then i tend to find them hard, possibly because i don't have the damage of a mage, ranger, warrior.  Dungeons are not soloable either.  Rifts, yes the lower ones are soloable but the Rfits at or around the level you are probably won't be.

You can solo the game to 50 just by doing the questing and some warfronts (pvp), but you may run out of quests before hitting 50, i know a guildie of mine is 49 and has run out of quests to lvl so is having to do dungeons, warfronts as he doesn't fancy pure grinding.

    Hope this helps.

    ^ THIS... FINALLY!

I love you Sovrath. Someone finally discovered what I am trying to say...

The only thing is, and that is what I think you guys keep forgetting is that he plays ODD hours... has in, almost none is there compared to the other hours. That means he won't find many players around to close rifts or do the invasions and that magical button that says "Join Public Group", since there are none around. We are used to the fact that invasions and rifts (during regular playtime) close by "themselves" (actually, they don't, they seem like it but in fact, there are sooo many players at our times that it seems that they pop and go and you didn't do nothing or harm).

Now, picture in your minds that, has you know RIFT, many rifts and invasions happen in a few times (lot's of spawns sometimes at the same time) and almost none is there to do them, like we are used to in regular times. See? Do you think your a super-hero and can defeat every rift and invasion at those hours?

    - They scale for your level and quantity of people -

Sure... they do... they do, still, they want things to be challenging and they will want the people (even few) to gather around and do those. Now I ask: Are few people willing for that in the odd hours?

I don't want the OP to waste money and say "The guys here told me something and now it ain't" It's money people. You can't just waste 50 euros/bucks, play and say "I didn't like it.". I am sure if I commed here, asked something and you all said positive info, I entered and saw it wasn't that beautiful like most of you CLAIMED to be, I would be very very pissed that I lost 50 bucks/euros, betting on your words.

A example is when I went to the LFGame forum and posted: "What game haves this, this and that?", everyone said EVE and Darkfall mostly. FORNATELLY, both had trials... but I quited EVE after 1 hour and Darkfall only lasted 10 minutes, yes, 10 minutes! Still, everyone declared to be flowers and sunshine, until I got there and saw nothing about what people claimed there was. I felt tricked, but wasn't really angry because I didn't lost money, only time. This game doesn't have a trial, yet.

All I say is, be carefull about what you say and don't claim rainbows, when there simply aren't.

Im in the 30s now with my main (first) warrior class char... ive had to group for maybe 4 quests so far, and a few major rifts.. but all in all been soloing for the extreme majority, which is mainly what i do.

Some may say "that means you have grouped so its not solo-friendly" but those groupings for me speed up the levelling but were totally avoidable if i ONLY wanted to do solo...

So my thoughts are ... its soloable .. but throw in a few public groups or whatever IF they are thrown into your face to mix it up a little... but if you only want to solo .. you should have no real issues getting to max.  And i arent some elite player or anything.. i screw up a bit and miss some things.. im here to have fun and if i have to do certain things to never die or max my damage every second of every gameplay session.. im going to start feeling like i am working a job.. im here to have fun.. same reason i read these forums.

    Good Hunting.

The game requires more grouping than even WoW.

Has the name tells you, the game is about RIFTS and INVASIONS. They take quest hubs. Without a group, most of them aren't soloable. If you can't take invasions, you can't do quests in that area for quite some time (hours). BUT, you don't need to ask for a group, you can always find people that want to take over those invasions too so, unless you play REALLY late, like 4-6am, you will find someone or quite a few people in all levels. Besides that, you will need groups to take out dungeons and raids, like WoW.

With that said, I hope I helped your decision. I like rift very much but if you have odd hours and can't group, then this ain't for you.

I agree with this, I am now in my low 20's playing a full heal cleric and can hold my own for the most part until I get jumped by a third mob. Two at a time, my level, is doable, but the mobs seem more aggressive then they did in WoW. It's getting harder to solo, the further I get.

    Thank you!

    lol...

You sir win the "Tap Dance Out Of What I Ment to say" award.

Seriously just stop.  Your first post was fairly clear this was not a "solo-friendly" game.  Now your back peddling by saying and insinuating if one (player) is not careful or can't find a pug for dungeons (which I and many others have not had a problem finding) then the game is not soloable, which is false.

So either stick to your incorrect hypotheses about soloability or eat crow and state a fact that one can solo the gameto level, however difficult it might be.  Which most, (of course not all) would rather have in a game.  Sometime hard work if much more rewardable.

So yeah...  Thank you kind of...

And you win the award "I seriously bashed a member of MMORPG.org without knowing what the hell is going on"

Read the hole topic again and then come back, I never took back my arguments but yes reasonable that "grouping" may be interpretade diferently to each one of us, which I end up agreeing... YES the game requires group, but maybe for another it doesn't, why? Becaue we need to figure out a way to define what is, indeed, grouping.

    - For me, pushing that magical button that says "Join Puglic Group" is grouping. Even when you enter and go out of the group without a word. You killed the mobs together? Then it is grouping.

    - You had a player killing the same mob has you did, then it is grouping, even without invitations.

    - Joining a queue for Warfronts, even without asking "LFG", is, for me, considered grouping. (even though this part ain't necessary to level, but just stating my point)

    - A few quests require grouping. Example: The Saga of the Endless (Defiant) at level 20. And those are major quests I am sure no one will want to abandon them, unless they don't want VERY, VERY VERY GOOD REWARDS (even the experience is quite rewarding). Yes, these really require to "LFG" in channels unless you see someone near the area and haves the same objective. Still, it is grouping. Tell what you want but there is no way you can solo this quest, unless you leveled really high and decided to finally do a quest that won't be "rewardable" compared to your own high level quests.

    - Has Zsavooz said, and that is why I said "thank you", it gets harder to solo... until it is impossible. You won't definitly buy a game that you can hold on your own (MOST OF THE TIMES) to 30, just when things get REALLY ugly and you do need grouping, and it is quite encouraged.... unless you have a "godlike" soul tree that wish to share among us because I am sure most of the players can't, so stop beying a elitist and call others weak when most of us really can't solo the whole game.

Am I weak when I say the game requires grouping while some of you claim that the hole game is solo-able?

I guess not... Zsavooz agreed with me. I would name more people that in this topic agreed with me, but I'm too lazy to go back and say every name here... and I do not wish to put other people on the spot. I don't need others to defend my opinions.

So, when you say "Ace of Spade 90 is wrong", your saying Zsavooz and company are wrong.

Again, I encourage to read the whole topic instead of giving rewards, like your trying to judge the person and not the comments.

Oh and I'm sure the game is very solo-able, if you kill randoms mobs all the way to max-level, just like any/most MMO out there. <- sarcasm

Some posters in this thread are an embarrassment.

Mage DPS sucks? REALLY?? I mean - ya sure - at level 6 through 12 it might suck.

Go ask the 50 Mages who are pewpewing their way to victory and 2-3 shotting most classes, and they'll laugh at you and tell you to learn2play.

ALL the callings are good - and they all CAN do decent DPS. Obviously a cleric won't out DPS a Warrior or Mage - but that only makes sense.

As for solo play - RIFT has a lot of grouping but its very easy to group/ungroup with the way public quests are setup.

In short - listen to Aces and the other posters who have a clue(you know who you are) :)
