Star Wars Galaxies: New Multi-Person Vehicles!

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

LucasArts has just announced that they have added multi-person vehicles to Star Wars Galaxies.  They are also reporting an increase in players since "The Total Experience" released yesterday.  Below we have their official release along with some screen shots of the new vehicles!

“Ever since the XP-38 came out, they just aren’t in demand,” lamented Luke Skywalker after selling his landspeeder in A New Hope. With the addition of multi-passenger vehicles to Star Wars Galaxies, we’ll have to see if that statement holds true. The new capability of carrying a passenger enhances existing vehicles like Luke’s X-34, the X-31, the Flash speeder and the AV-21. But now that the XP-38 has come out, will its sleek two-seater capabilities indeed prove more popular? Or perhaps the similar AB-1 will do the same. Meanwhile, entire bands of adventurers can traverse their favorite planets with up to five others in their very own brand new V-35 landspeeder, just like the one on the Lars homestead.

Beyond the excitement of multi-passenger vehicles, the Star Wars Galaxies team is thrilled to get a lot of new members thanks to the release of Star Wars Galaxies: The Total Experience on May 26. For only $29.95, fans can immerse themselves in all three Star Wars Galaxies releases, including An Empire Divided, Jump to Lightspeed, and the recently released Episode III Rage of the Wookiees. What better use for your new vehicle than to show a brand new player the ways of the Star Wars galaxy?

OMG! Now AO and plenty other MMORPGs should follow suit! If SWG can do it, so should the others, and even TMO! We've seen chase scenes in the Matrix movies so we'd love to drive in the TMO game.

This is nice but can it drive though the broken CU ,  poor customer service and SOE's abuse of authority - no I don't think so.

Of course there is an upswing in buying the total experience, the question is how many are buying it simply to get the barc speeder, and not really "new" people coming in.

What i would like to see is in 6 months how this game is going 2 months? year?
im sure a few newbies are gonna show thanks to the movie. but as alot of us said.

    Then what will happen?
Customer service will still be shabby at best.
The devs still will ignore their playerbase.
Bugs will still be put out without any real testing.
If those improve? Then the game overall will improve.

    Not til then.

This is still a repeat of when the game first came out. Servers are down for a day or more.
Massive bugs that shouldnt have come close to making it in game.
Not know what will be changed at a blink or if we will be told about it.
Anyone playing this game from the start will notice this pattern.

Really how can you miss the engine effects? lol Tell me about that Quality Control again.

Thats something that you can see and should of been fixed easily.
Thats what worries me on the more serious bugs.

Still a severe lack of Quality going into this game.

    very cool.

between this, the CU and the JTL expansion....it's kinda making me want to play again.

I figure another 6 months for SOE to get the bugs worked out of the CU and it will be a solid game.

Sounds like a cool idea but I still can't get over how much the CU has been a pain for me, I probably won't go back.

Sure, multiple passengers is cool. Something everyone can agree with, but it is insignificant compared to the mess the Combat Fubar has made of this game.

The CU is what I hope will be a failed attempt by SOE to rake in more cash. They screwed the veteran players figuring that they have the only game in town for MMORPG Star Wars fans.

The primary issue I have with the hatchet job of an "upgrade" is that everything is now level based. It is my belief that SOE only wanted to support one game type, which means we now have a level based clone of Everquest. Its cheaper and easier for them that way, but it makes the experience feel like a game instead of an environment.

But the DEVs had a deadline... They had to release the "new & (cough) improved" version in time to make more money from the teenagers that are jazzed by watching the movie. They needed a new boxed set to fill the store shelves. Away went the special damage types and with it the skill based system, the crafting complexity, and many of the crafted items that had been referred to as "uber."

Not to mention the functionality of the Entertainers. All that is left for them is a glorified chat room with pretty avatars.

I would love for Lucasarts to yank the license from them or at least exert enough pressure so that SOE is forced to give us back the world we had, even if the community is gone forever.

And I hope whoever at SOE pushed this CU through chokes on his/her greed.

I support telling everyone in the MEDIA what SOE has done.

I had a nice chat with the folks behind SWG at E3 this year and will be writing a brief little update based on the conversation next week. They had some interesting and surprising comments about the CU.

Pre CU, the game was compleatly broken. Post CU Combat is on a fair playing field.

I left becouse of the broken combat system. I came back becouse of the 100's of new stuff they have added and the blance that the CU has brought to the game.

If you dislike the CU, Im sorry. But it was needed in that game 100%, im sorry you can no longer be "uber",adapt.

Funny I went to a gamestore to buy EQII and he suggested that I should also pick up star wars and do the station access thing because he is loving it. I asked him, what he thought about the CU.

He liked what SOE has done....lol.

So really, I don't believe it is all that bad.

Anybody who can stand there and support the CU by stating that those vets who left just failed to adapt, or didn't like change and found it all so foreign (true), or were no longer uber (not terribly relevant... they became uber once, they'd do so again in short order ..if it was worth it) - all those supporters boggle the mind. If you continue to enjoy the game, great, ... go right ahead.

The post-CU game remains broken for Jedi (!!), Entertainers, Musicians, Dancers, Doctors, Bio-Engineers, Chefs, Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths (to a somewhat lesser extent, I guess), and in general, anyone who played the game for that broader community. I was Jedi, that's all I did, and that game was broken right out from under me. Yes, the previous combat systems had its problems, but please do not whine about "realism" and how you'd like the game dumbed down or nerfed so that one or two uber players (who've spent the time and effort and cash to figure it out) can defeat a Krayt. If you don't think something's fun, don't do it - but don't whine about someone else who enjoys it and how their enjoyment infringes on your own. Bull$h1t.

Those of you who support the CU support the whole tragedy of thousands of players, veteran and non, who've quit because the game's no longer playable or fun for us. If it's fun for you, fine - but don't pretend it wasn't broken for many. If they suddenly broke Rifleman, I'd be really pissed on behalf of all the riflemen out there... even though I hadn't been one for months.

I guess what we're all getting at here with our criticisms of the CU is that it's like Pol Pot's killing fields... he and his Khmer Rouge used to say that the country was so infested with bourgoisie and capitalism and impure thoughts that they just had to wipe it clean by killing thousands of people, that it was rough but that it had to be done. I'm not comparing the morality of murder with the CU, don't get me wrong... but the same basic logic is in use. And if you didn't get sent to a re-education camp, at least don't pretend that the rest of us didn't.

Man, these vehicles look so damn cool though... you gotta hand it to the SWG devs, they may not have pulled anything off gracefully but they sure have made their fair share of revolutionary steps for the MMO genre.

I fall under the "not enough for a resub" category, but I give credit where credit is due and I've gotta hand it to them for playing the multi-person vehicles card.

  • shaeshae Member Posts: 2,509

If SOE/SWG had a developement team half as talented as it's PR department, SWG would be the best MMO of all time.

Personally, the only word that comes to mind is... Sad.

Well of course not everyone is gonna complain.

Some people like dumb down versions of games.

why do you think god mode on games is so popular? Most people like there games simply an easy to walk thru.

Personally i like the xp gain at your own level idea.

the flashy crap eq looking icons tombs voodoo dolls and things like that i detest.

Also those "and i belive i mentioned it before on here." those no thought into trees on kash. the forced into a pathway play.

Things like that bug me. i Can understand instances of dungeons as the greedy lowlife types will always never think that someone else might like to play the area as well.

But the front end of that planet should be wide open.

Idea's i have aplenty to fix and make the game fun on all levels.

But time i do not have to beat them about the head an shoulders to implement.

All their tricks to make it more "enjoyable" i have worked around now. so to me its the same game again.

Only dumbed down for the kiddies.

Plus made simplier on them so they can mass fix all the games at once.

Heaven forbide people actually have to wait and work at these games...

how long has the CU been out? a month and a half or so? soe should of never had those bugs even at live let alone till recently when they were told about them early in beta and at test center SOE imo is the worst at listening to there customers

The CU has been designed for the group player not the soloest as a master bounty hunter i shouldnt have to group to get any kind of xp while doing a BH mission.

as a newbe its not bad till you start to advance,I didnt give it a chance you ask? yes I did i was waiting for the CU with open arms to get slaped in the face i even played on TC to get a feel for it and what i played on TC is not what i played on live

The multipasenger rides are just a suger coated bribe to get the mass of accounts from keep droping and to bring in more nieve children that dont know what the game was like befor the CU even with the broken combat system and i agree that it was massivly broken with pistoler never working but two specials since launch, a level based game does not work with a skill based game that SWG is. And no one has mentiond the fact that all 100% craft based players need a full army just to protect them while gathering there resorces enertainers alike. unless they have fixed the leveling system since i have been playing,i have cancled one acount and havent played in two weeks or more

i admit when i first started playing swg it was my first ever mmog and i had friends that showed me the ropes, but for me figureing out wow was alot quicker then swg.

For the soloing maybe i do fall in the catagory of not wanting to relearn and stuck in the old ways but i can still incap by a mob of gray creatures when i should beable to kill them with out a fight, i loged on last night after reading this post becuase of the multiplayer land speeders and i noticed they have tweaked the level system some, however bh missions imo are still broke im level 60 picked up a bh mission cant remember what he mission level said but when i found the mark he was a level 54 and grey witch resulted in 2 pistol xp and 1244 of bh xp thanks to the double xp week that they are handing out again witch to me means the game is still broke when it shouldnt be by this time and is useless for me

I have enough left over affection for the game to see that it's still around and that the devs are still working on improving it - but not enough affection for it to actually resubscribe to it.

I enjoyed playing the game that was for 2 years, and didn't enjoy the game that it had become 2 months ago. I can think of a few things I liked about the changes, and plenty that I didn't. In my case (and this goes for everyone else I know who left the game), the cons far outweighed the pros so I did what many, many others did and walked away.

The game still holds the same fascination though as watching a car wreck - you know you shouldn't watch it but you can't help yourself.

Still, at the end of the day I play online games for the relaxation and the enjoyment, and SWG2 provided me with neither of these things.

It's not to say that this is the case for all, but its definitely the case for me.
