This game isnt going to be released, btw

This game is disastrous, mainly because this game is doomed to stay in
dev. By the time it's released, it will be overshadowed, out-of-date and
forgotten. I have anticipated this game since I joined this site. Now
its time to just let go.

Agreed, As much as I would totally be all over this game if it was released, with the competition the way it is and the amount of money it will cost to develop it to a mass audience for commercial success I just dont see happening. In spite of that I hope the publishers prove me 100% wrong!

    Let me elaborate further.
This game was up-to-date about a year ago, maybe 2. I remember thinking it was a fresh idea and great graphics etc. However, its been in dev for forever, and we hardly get any info. By the time it is released, it will be out-of-date.

I have to disagree... Look at EQ2... took 5 years to develop... 5 years!!!!!   I am SO excited for POTBS

who gives a rats ass if the graphics arent orgasmic when it comes out.As long as its fun and something differents form the others Ill try it.

Sweet graphics matters not. I think a large part of the MMO community would agree that fun and gameplay > all. Look at how many people still play dated games like EQ, SWG, AO, etc. By comparison to today's games, their graphics are horrible. I think a lot of us are at the point where we'd rather have a fun game that runs well than one with great graphics that runs ok. The main reason I left EQ2 is because the game didn't run well on my rather beefy machine, and although the graphics were great, the game just wasn't fun. I find myself going back to simpler but more fun games like AoE2, Puzzle Pirates, JK2, and EVE. I would probably go back even farther to play E&B and Jumpgate, if one hadn't been shut down and the other have only about 100 players left.

So, if they rush it to market they suck because it is full of bugs. If they take their time and get it right they are "outdated." As near as I can tell from the screen shots and their site this will be great game. They are self-funded so I hope they can survive to release.

Thats the problem with people, they simply have no patience...They got pretty good devs working on this game, and by far, the game looks great.  Most games that rush for release dont last long anyways, so personally i dont care how long it takes for this game to be released, aslong as it runs smoothly bug free and i am fine. According to the videos recorded at E3, PotBS looked amazing.

yup, who cares. idk about graphics its all gameplay. besides fancy graphics cant hide shitty gameplay.

The original poster is talking out his ass. If he bothered to check the latest 'updated' website and official forums he would see just how far this game has come and just how close they are to beta. He probably doesn't even realize that mmorpg.com gave that game Best of Show for graphics at E3. It has, in my opinion, the best graphics I've seen in any mmorpg to date. And yet you say they'll be out-dated??? Where exactly do you get this stuff?

As a community we need to offer more support for titles like PoBS and other indie developers that are trying to offer something as bit different from the tried and tested corporate clone-fest. Other games such as AtitD and Roma Victor are also notably independent and trying to innovate where the corporates are just printing money and laughing all the way to the bank.

Graphics aren't everything, whereas gameplay is - stick with this title it takes a long time to build a virtual world and the graphics I've seen for this title are fine.

I look forward to this title - whenever it's released.

There are few games pushing the boundaries. In fact, most of them are a step back.

Given that, I don't understand how POTBS can be 'out of date'.

I really hope that they release the game. I'd like to try it just once as it looks like a neat game to try.

  • darmokdarmok Member Posts: 5

I'm also glad that they are taking the time develop the game properly. The market is already full of mmorpg's that were rushed to the public and it shows. Graphics mean nothing if the bugs, lack of content, and poor balancing destroy the gameplay.

While they have not given out as much information as I would like about the game, the devs have revealed a lot about the game design and story in the official site's dev diaries and the forums. THey really have put a LOT of time into getting all of the details right to ensure that the game is accurate, balanced, and fun. Of course, as always, time will tell; and hopefully when this game hits the market it will be as much fun as I am hoping for it to be. I mean, come on, its a PIRATE game...who can resist that!

In response to the original post, because I am way too tired to read everything after being up all night. Plenty of games stay in development for much longer than this game has been. Look at Roma Victor announced in what 2001, has it been canceled? Same goes for Dark and Light and a slew of other MMORPG's that were in development for 5 years or more that are now on the shelf. The only difference is they do not have a big name financial backing like sony, so they are by all means doomed to fail right? Heck no, what that means is they can hire who they want to actually get the job done, they can have a much greater say on when the game actually gets released, and eventually they will pay of all their investors and be able to market the game as they see fit. Give them time to get it done, do you want another Anarchy Online release or SWG ? Since the initial concept of the game they have added avatars, something not scheduled until a later expansion, it's not just going to be ship to ship conbat anymore. Plus from what I have read the mission system being developed is somewhat original for those who dont want to be bad ol pirates. So I will keep waiting for release like a true mmorpg fan.

  • gargantroogargantroo Member Posts: 1,477

WoW was in development for 6 years. That means the concept of the game started in 1999. But we didnt hear anything. The point I'm trying to make is that this game couldve been in development for alot longer than it was announced. I've been waiting FOREVER for POTBS to come out and then I just gave up because we hardly got any information on it's release.

It definitely won't break my heart to never see this game released. There are far more games out there that are worth playing than this one. I say let it die.
