You know about the quake that hit Japan right ? And it's kinda hard to keep production running what with the power rotation. Sony got hit hard.
If you had bothered to read SOE announcement, you would notised that it closes its Denver, Seattle and Tucson studios. Some thing you just can't blame on the eartquake and the tsunami.
John Smedley is an idiot. A pure, unadulterated moron of epic preportions. Everything that man touches turns to feces before the eyes of millions of horrofied gamers. Planetside Next will never see the light of day. They have proven since they bought and ruined Everquest that SOE truly means

Sony lost quite a bit of money in the earthquake/tsunami. It takes money to keep offices open and people working. In a global economy, what happens in Japan does indeed affect business here. Especially a Japanese business, even if its major offices are located here
What a shame. It would have been interesting to do a mmo on a genre that hadn't been done yet. Hopefully another studio realizes the potential and picks it up.

They are one operating entity. Yes..the Tsunami/earthquake happened in Japan..not the US...but they are hardly going to rub salt in the wound and close up their native offices...fucking their own country in the arse even deeper. It makes sense that they would close foreign offices and consolidate locally to keep their own citizens working. Something a US corporation would likely never attempt.
Sad to see it go but i figured it was vaporware for a long time.. Such a good premise too, hopefully someone later on actually makes a spy/espianoge MMO.. I'd be all over it.
You and about ten others, this would have been a niche game anyway.
Bad discisions and mismanagement costs job losses,SOE is full of both so are a few other so called AAA companys. My opinion ' we have already seen layoffs in mmo and game companys, the pie doesnt have slices for bad companys to take a piece of. Just like in my work (Engineer) if i was no good at my job or i made mistakes then myself and my team would suffer.'
This just has'nt happened there would have been team meetings everyweek with updates on the game and overall progression of the work, in the end someone had had enough of the bullshit, like i said stinks of mismanagement.

this is something i hadnt considered. it makes a lot of sense. sony has to be bleeding money the last 2 weeks, and it looks like there isnt going to be an end to that for them in japan for at LEAST a few years. they havent even started clearing rubble out there, let alone repairing infrustructure.
they are still searching for bodies mostly =/ i listened to a piece on npr about it yesterday. its really sad.
any leighway smed might have had to keep development running likely went away when the quake hit. as long as that game had been in development, i would have pulled the plug too when i looked at the projections for losses over the next 3 years they have to face.
i really feel for everyone out there. i kind of wish i had the money to fly out and volunteer to help dig through rubble and help people rebuild their lives.

I wonder if code will be adopted for Planetside Next? There truely wasn't a whole lot of coverage of this game and it fit a similar niche to Planetside Next. My 2 cents would say that the sinking ship sunk, regardless of anything else, to make way for the new monster in the works.
I agree with Sony's decision. I thought the concept of The Agency was good, but the implementation was very corny. It should have been about plot, but it came across as a naff shoot-em-up.
At least the devs have been released to apply for new jobs before a disaster was released.
when I first heard about The Agency I was thrilled at the prospect, but as time progressed while I watched the development I was contimually losing more and more interest in the game. I think it would have been a failure with the direction that SOE seemed to be taking it. Maybe some other company can pick up on the property and make the changes so that it could be a worthwhile game to play. Maybe, but I doubt it.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
Everyone but Sony corporate seems to understand that SOE was driven into the ground by horrible management. I've been saying for a few years now that if Sony wanted to remain a player in the space, they should do a top down purge of management at the division, rename it and bring in people with true vision.
Even if SOE ended up with a promising title, they would find a way to kill it.
Sony had the resources to be successful in the market, but I don't think they ever understood the market they were trying to succeed in. Thier choice in upper management and the fact that disasterous leadership was allowed to fail so completely at every turn and still keep their jobs proved that.
Maybe one day devs will stop trying to combine call of duty and world of warcraft. Or hoepfully. these devs will all quit so newer and better game devs can start making some games instead of garbage.
John Smedley is an idiot. A pure, unadulterated moron of epic preportions. Everything that man touches turns to feces before the eyes of millions of horrofied gamers. Planetside Next will never see the light of day. They have proven since they bought and ruined Everquest that SOE truly means

Um...you do realize that Smedly didn't buy and ruin Everquest, right? Smedly was one of the creators of EQ, and SOE bought it from HIM.

Um, you do realize that Smed didn't buy EQ right? Smed was a co-creator of EQ and SOE bought it from them... Smed wasn't even head of SOE at the time that EQ was bought, and wasn't for quite a few years after.
Honestly I say good, means they put more ppl and money into EQ3 which is where the focus should be anyway. The only game SOE should be worried about other then EQ3 is a new SWG come on Sony plzzzzzzz!
I love the idea of this game. A spy MMO would be a dream. I know SOE would never be able to pull it off the right way though. So this is good news.
Hopefully one day we'll see a GOOD development team create a spy themed MMO. I think it'd be awesome. I don't understand devs these days. There's so much unexplored ground when it comes to MMOs. Yet none choose to go there and they stick with the fantasy realm. LAME. Where is the western cowboy games? Where is the spy games? Where are the good pirate games? (POTBS sucked. Someone could do better). The only game I see coming in the future with new ground being explored is The Secret World. Now that game looks awesome!
The agency never caught my attention and I was never interested. Well below the radar for me since I saw the very first screenshots released.
Desite my distrust of $OE, I am however interested in Planetside 2, seeing as planetside is still one of my favorite MMO's ever, even with the eventual failing of it's playerbase due to $OE's mad rhetoric. How they cannot see that their own business model is self destructive is beyond me.

Surprise surprise...............
Why they even thought that it was a good idea to make such MMO?
Wanna make money SoE? Fantasy for the win...............remember you got a super IP parked somewhere in the basement of Austin Studios? (EQ)
Stop with all this crap no one wants to play (Free Realms, DCU, The Agency)

Boy the MMO market is churning out garbage, and now some of them are so low budget they cant even lanuch them
"Cut cost so low, that we cant even lauch it, then waste money"

SOE makes me sad.
Good riddance! The fewer games that awful company SOE produces the better. The best would be for them to leave the industry all together!

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

Wow I've gone off track.
I hope SOE dies. Soon.

It's beyond all of us. SOE are not humans. They are malfunctioned money robots.
