if I want an "eastern" game instead then I'll play that.
I missed the part where all games need to be made for spoiled american children?
Exactly what point are you making? I missed the part where you said something that made sense?
Isn't his point obvious? Play a game for what it is, don't go to an Asian made game and complain 'it's too Asian'. I'm curious to try Drakensang now just because it's a German game as a whole, not an 'Americanization' or 'Asianization' crap.
Look at that second picture, that "man" tiny chest big hips a Freddie Mercury mustache, The Koreans dont know how to make masculine characters. its not a part of the culture you couldnt pay me to play an Eastern developed game.
Food for thought, and a favourite quote, for anyone thinking that they should add more skills: "An engineer knows he has achieved perfection, not when there is nothing left to take away" ~ unknown.
I'm quite happy with the new MMOs leaning more towards having less skills but more dynamic combat. And I'm also in the camp of people who definitely didn't leave Aion for the Eastern feel, I really hope they don't overdo the 'Westernisation'.
And for those who would complain that it feels 'too Asian', don't buy an apple and complain that it doesn't taste like a banana.
Food for thought, and a favourite quote, for anyone thinking that they should add more skills: "An engineer knows he has achieved perfection, not when there is nothing left to take away" ~ unknown.
oh I completely agree. This is true in art and music and writing.
As a friend of mine who is also a composer likes to tell me, "It's easy to hide your mistakes and lack of technique in a lot of counterpoint or a lot of textures. Try doing that when you pare it down to only a few notes at a time".
More is not always better. I would much prefer only a few skills and then the choice of how and where to use them.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
My problem is I love the artwork, but most Eastern inspired games hit a grind fest at about level 20 and you end up having to grind exp twice as long as usual when compaired to other MMO's made in the west.
I dont mind grinding but when getting from 20 to 21 takes as long as it does for you to get from 1 to 20 now that just gets a bit silly.
"I have yet to have anyone answer this question: how can you watch your back in a pvp environment if you are forced to face your current npc target?"
Situational awareness maybe?
AoC doesn't have action combat, neither does EarthRise really
SoE cancled the agency not because of the combat, since PlanetSide:NeXT will have similar combat, but for other reasons, probably mainly missing target dates and didn't want the agency to draw subs away from Planetside (similar to Vanguard and EQ2)
Darkfall has action combat and that aspect of the game is one of its strongest points.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
I will never purchase another flashy korean game without waiting several months after release. I watched videos on youtube on this game and it looked like it would get EXTREMELY boring after a while. The graphics are your typical Eastern MMO affair. I'm surprised that so many people seem interested in this after the hampster wheel grindfest that is Aion burned many a player. If you don't take something away from the game besides a worn out mouse button or keyboard keys, then it really isn't worth wasting time over. All I've heard about this game is "pretty graphics" and "smash a few buttons to attack, smash some to dodge, circle the monster". Story? Dynamic quests? Something new? Where is the creativity?

Maybe, but the verision you play will be 6-9 months behind Korea and your input will have no bearing on further changes.
Exactly the same as US, with the excpetion to "your input will have no bearing on" - unfortunately player input is taken into account, and many of the things western players suggested are already implemented in Korean client.
The only drawback to that is some systems that were perfect in Korean closed beta were broken by listening to players suggestions
Originally posted by Ekadd We have got first TERA beta test, any idea about release date for Europe?
Nothing official yet. As far as i know we can expect autumn/winter.
Also I have got some questions about TERA.-Its PvP based game like Aion or PvE? Theres instanced PvP zones, open PvP world and there will be PvE servers too?
Yes. There will be PvP and PvE servers both in NA and EU. There will be open PvP on PvP servers but not on PvE. There are also Instanced PvP, that are avaliable on both types of servers.
If you get change to play weekend beta test, can you give info about your system and how game performance looks like? Those are first questions comes to my mind...
i7-920@ 3,2GHZ 6GB RAM GF GTX480 1440x900
at first i had some problems with my fps, but once i got that sourted up, i was in 50-80fps range with everything maxed.
macBookPro core2duo 2,6Ghz 4MB RAM gf 9600M 1440x900 Bootcamp running Windows XP
I had no fraps on it installed, but it was playable with shadows brought down a bit.
If you want to see how will Tera run on your setup - get any new game on Unreal 3 engine - i reccomend Bulletstorm as it is really fun game. Well, Tera will run a bit more smoothly than that

I don't care for being a second class customer, maybe this won't be the case, but it was with the old console makers from Japan *shrugs* it may not be a problem, but I immediately get my "spidey sense" ringing at this.
There is one draw back on the combat though.I found that while playing the Warrior, the combat became a bit repetitious. Now, this was all at low level, so you don’t have a long list of skills to start. However, as I was killing monsters to finish up my quests, it seemed to move quickly, yet I was doing the same moves over and over. The system was much improved however vs. typical MMO combat which just keeps you on a target the whole time. At least with TERA you can dodge, move and distract your foes. It made for a better fight overall, but I did feel limited in my options. Again, I must stress that it was low level. Aside from that the action combat graphics really are amazing.
I'm very interested, as Iove the fact TERA markets COMBAT as the de facto feature of this MMO. Yes!
But watching the vids, the early levels combat although actiony does repeat a lot of moves. I like a more sandboxy randomness to action combat, so I hope this translates?

i don't understand why people need 20 abilites they don't use. remember when we played games where you had just run and jump? =
i hope this game does well. been hoping a MMO would make a game with entertaining combat, not another one where we stand there and exchange blows while spamming abilites, 3 that you acutally use out of your 30... i just want to have fun in a MMO again. was burnt out way before aion.

More money, more booze, more men (or women for you)... can't ever have enough of what's good! =P
I want more costumes and gear pieces, more options to design my character, more classes and races, more areas to explore, more levels to attain, more replay options and of course more cool powers to chose from. No I am serious. I wan't many abilites, I want 4 quick bars FULL of cool and different stuff. First, it allows me to experience new skills ever so often instead of doing the same four or five for months. I make a fire light, then a fire ball, then a fire cone and then I rain meteors of fire on an area and THEN I call volcanos of fires! Whats not to love? No, I am dead serious: I want a vast variety of powers. First, it allows me to experience different play-throughs with different powersets. Second, I can alter several strategies as the situation arises. Third I learn new powers often so my gameplay is always new. Fourth and finally, the alternative is player skill based and not character skill based and I don't want MY OWN skills to decide the battle but rather that of my character!
No. More is more is win! Down with modesty! XD

How did the last major "action MMO" with the exciting new combat system work out? Lets see...I think SOE mentioned they were laying off several hundred employees-just a few months after their biggest release in almost a decade.
As for the other "action MMO"'s with innovative new combat systems-lets see there was AOC-i think theyre holding steady at 3 servers now. There is Darkfall! LIVE TARGETING and dodging! There was Tabula Rasa-use the enviornment as a partner in your battles!
Twitch combat, jumping around, circle strafing, hopping all over the place-I get it-I play FPS's too and enjoy the occasional console game-but to think folks will spend 100's and 100's of hours in that type of combat-I just dont think is realisitic. Wrong genre.
yeah AOC is probably holding on just 3 servers.... right...
So what, ppl are all invalids and cant jump? Why would guy with GUN jump instead of guy with sword? Will his bullets strike harder,or warriors sword?
Maybe just because you fail with ur reflexes that doesnt mean that every1 else is like you,and no1 is asking you to play the game.
You are talking nonesense, state the right facts or dont post at all,its more realisitc to jump and move around in fantasy games then FPS.
