whoah, WTF... was looking up stuff on YouTube and ran across this...
The hilarious part is I didn't know there was a real song for this, but my girls watch Noggin and they basically ripped this off and redid with more of a children's theme.
It could really suceed if they find a way to tell these stories through more interesting means rather than wall of text kill quests then this could really be something that I would go for.
Combine interesting storytelling with some of the game mechanics that they have proposed like action based combat and a skill system and I think you might just have a winner.
Looks great, I'm excited to play this one but I didn't know EA was a co-producer. Now I'm semi-worried. Only because besides enjoying sims a little I when I think of EA I think of the mismanagement of Warhammer online.
thank you for ruining my day with a nothing but text trailer.... thumbs down....
It might be a text trailer, but the insight provided into locations and what we might encounter is way more than any video trailer could offer in the same peroid of time.
For so long they have just mentioned about pulling from myths and legends, but now they actually gave us clues as to which ones.
Yep, that's what I was thinking too.
These textquotes are among the myths, urban legends and conspiracy theories that we can expect to see make their appearance ingame in some form or another.
The line up of text lines flashing by in the video, as someone on the official forums was so kind to post:
This Is How Our End Begins
Now
Powerful forces are on the move
And dark conspiracies converge
As a hidden world is finally revealed
We are in the Fourth Age
Powerful Cabals Rule the World
They Have Kept Us in the Dark
Signals Disrupt our Thoughts
The Host were Here Before Us
They are still here
There is a City on the Moon
Eleven days are missing
The Earth is hollow
The Wagtail has arrived
There are Portals in Time and Space
The Bees are Returning
The Eight watch over us
Solomon's Key unleashes Hell
The Tower of Babel never fell
The Old Gods are awakening
Atlantis rises
The Ark of the Covenant is an Engine
Stonehenge is a Beacon
The Fountain of Youth is Poisoned
Immortal Beings walk the Earth
The planets are aligning
The End of Days are here
Everyone must choose a side
The Dark Places are Crawling
The Filth will Corrupt us all
The Morning Light burns
Demons march against us
The Dreamers whisper
A Blight befalls the Garden of Eden
We have dug too deep
Lillith's Children are unchained
Pandora's Box is opening up
There is a secret world
Everything Is True
Dark Days Are Coming
To be honest it just looks like a mish-mash of borrowed 'cliches' by a company that is scratching for ideas to me.

Or is it a competition? :-D
Oh...oh! I've got one!

.... meh...no... that actually sounds like DOC (a Cornered Rat Software Developer)
How about "The Grey Aliens probed my butt."?... nah...Independence Day... damn.
Would someone please direct some writers with talent to Fun Com?
I understand that TSW will be a different kind of experience than the typical MMO, and I appreciate what Funcom seems to be trying to do here, but these trailers don't give much insight into how the game will actually play, so it's difficult to get excited.
3 tsw articles in one week, its the secret funcon fud&marketing machine we know from AoC. theyd better show more gameplay videos instead of shiny trailers.
To be honest it just looks like a mish-mash of borrowed 'cliches' by a company that is scratching for ideas to me. And most of them have already been mentioned, hinted or connected together in ARG. Every story since the world started has been a mishmash of "cliches". your point being?
"Some Secrets Should remain forever buried"?... "What lies hidden must be found" - TCoS Orr, its a nod to lovecraftian type of phylosophy that humans are safe as long as they are ignorant and that certain things human mind could not comprehend.

You have no idea how silly you just made yourself look. Dreamfall The Longest Journey and the Broken Sword series are considered to be the best most recent adventure games and were enjoyed by the majority of those who played them.
I suggest you try out The Longest Journey, you wont be dissappointed
I wonder if there will be some arg elements mixed in with the game but to be played outside of the actual game itself?
There are. They already showed a few Investigation missions where you need to look stuff up and figure things out with help of google and internet to solve it and progress. This applies to all the Investigation missions, all kinds of puzzles, mysteries and secrets that'll take you time to crack, even with help of online out-of-game resources.
Next to that, the ARG's will continue, they'll also have monthly large ARG's, where you need a full guild and maybe more to work them out or progress in them. 'ARG raids' is the term they used.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

They already confirmed that.
A LOT of ingame quests work similar to arg in that you have to find out stuff outside of the game, look up info, etc.
Heck the whole game is planned in "Stages" ala ARG, in that players as community will need to figure some stuff out inside the game using outside the game sources before major things happen in the game.
Not to mention that ARG will continue after games laugh and tie into the game directly

I liked the score and I thought they did a good job by speeding up the new text. Being interested in the story it was telling I put a lot of effort intokeeping up with it and the faster I read the more I got into it and wanted to see what was next. I was definitely more excited about the game after I got done watching than before so I guess it worked on me. Infact it might be my favorite trailer for TSW thus far.
I kinda think the people who are complaining about the flash cards of text are the kind of people who don't like to read for enjoyment even if only the occasional book. I probably only read one book a year but I enjoy it when I do.
This can easily become the best MMO ever made, or at least one of the best.
Haven't we heard people saying the exact same thing with every MMO release for the past 6 years? How many of them became 'the best MMO ever made'? It is way too early to be applying this level of hype.
thank you for ruining my day with a nothing but text trailer.... thumbs down....
I will write some more words, more text so that your day will be even more ruined. Look at that, here I go, continuing to ruin your day, oh my gawd, someone stop me, his day is going straight to hell here! Consider your day ruined. Or.... just a thought. Stop seing the glass, not as half full or half empy, but as broken. Being a negative little ba...rd will give you a heart attack at 13.

That is the idea. They establish context. The whole thing is enveloped in mistery, but the story has a strong background. Something major is coming up, get prepared! The less they show, the more it hooks you. Massive, dangerous, scary, not for kids. They did an awesome job. You're not in Azeroth anymore... or Telara... or any junk like that. Let's hope they deliver.

You know, I am quite prepared to look 'silly' in your eyes at this point.
I have made myself look 'silly' in the eyes of many people over the past few years prior to the release of several MMOs.
PotBS? Champions Online? WAR? STO? just to name a few.
You can check my post history for what I said about those games prior to release.
In the case of TSW I am seeing not much substance. It started well.
Edit: The Kingsmouth teaser! Yes - that showed promise.
But then there were all the teaser trailers that don't show a lot - but probably instanced boss fights.
This teaser shows that maybe they have a good reseach department who have dug up a lot of old myths, superstitions, bogeymen. Great. But can they turn that into a game? More importantly can they turn that into a game that has more substance to it than just 'select weapon, load up, move out, boss fight!'?
I would like to say 'yes' but I am a realist. You can hang all your hopes on one guy (Ragnar Tornquist) if you like - but what I am seeing does not suggest any devine intervention here.

I know what you mean, I was wondering the same, I think it's hard.
Take for example Left4Dead, or Amnesia, in my eyes great horror games. But try to copy that same atmosphere of abandonment, suspense and horror in an MMORPG where hordes of other players are bunnyhopping all around and going guncrazy, a lot of that suspense and atmosphere will get lost (on 2nd thought, such a thing as the haunted house in the game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines could maybe get created in a horror MMORPG in an instance or such: great scene and memories).
At least they're trying with the ARG's over the past years, Investigation missions, ARG's and ARG raids ingame. I think that with the theme and setting, the choice of their monster mobs and the larger emphasis on secrets and puzzle/mystery quests, that they have a good start. As for the rest, we'll have to see.

Please Funcom don't mess thiss one up!
Trailer is good , if they can deliver 75% of what they promise , I am hooked.
3 factions , free system character design , modern day world .
Just let see if they can put away the nerf hammer .
