The discount available varies on the number of valid friends you have on your attached Facebook account. A valid friend is a Facebook friend who does not already play Mortal Online themselves. Discounts begin with 5 friends at 0.25 EUR and climb up to a 1.25 EUR per month discount for 750 friends.

Better than nothing, although I had expected a bigger discount... one worth mentioning.

I derive my strength from passion. Do you feel that? That is what seperates you and I, Jedi!

Mediocre discount aside, how many people have 750 friends?

  • NeoptolemusNeoptolemus Member Posts: 242

I'm assuming the joke discount is because they're broke and can't afford to offer anything more substantial.

  • peteski123peteski123 Member UncommonPosts: 447

Heh, I would not take the time to get such a small return. silly idea I could earn more doing something else than the time is takes to do that

1.25 EURO?!?! That's less than $2... What kind of discount is THAT?

750 friends?!.....who the hell even has that many FB friends?

Well apparently only 19 people like Starvault, and 544 people like Mortal Online, so I guess the game itself doesn't have 750 friends.

Well I will ignore the silly attempts to take this off topic and focus on the actual thread.  I found this great link to an MMO News article on the Starvault Facebook campaign:

"Well, Star Vault has unveiled the Facebook connect feature and the discount is, to say the least, negligible"

That guy sounds unprofessional and possibly bias'd against the game.

lol good lord.  I don't know if I would want to friend 750 people to play the game free.

  • RuellisRuellis Member Posts: 48

1.25 euro discount is 10 percent, for 750 sign-up is really not much. But most people who like MO will probably help Star Vault marketing on Facebook, even with this little discount, just as some other people try very hard to find out reasons why MO is a bad game without being paid by anyone.

  • HerculesSASHerculesSAS Member Posts: 1,272

Wow, this is really not good news if it's coming down to this.

    Ah well.

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

Haha this is hilarious! So, they give us some discount. And now ppl bi*ch about not getting enough? You guys don't even play the game, so the discount is clearly not for you anyway!

It is a nice inovative "marketing move" and I like it! 10% is pretty good imo for the monthly sub! I don't see any other game have it (with that I do not mean other game campaigns etc)!?

Way to think outside the box Star Vault! image

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

And btw, I can probabely find 100+ with more than 750 friends in 10 minutes. Just look for the 14-20 years old =P I can't really see how it is Star Vault's fault that you do not have that many friends on FB!

  • channel84channel84 Member UncommonPosts: 585

I rather starvault offer in game items reward system.

The current monetary offer is making it's player feel unappreciated by the under value reward.

Is starvault that naive to think that people will move their azz for a measily euro1.25 discount?

    1. The Facebook Syndrome

I’m sure some of you have dabbled in Zynga’s games or some of the others. In each Facebook game there’s a trend that involves the player “inviting” his or her friends to try the game out or to help them find a home for some lost animal, gather enough supplies for a new shelter, or something along those lines. Basically these games force you to advertise for them by constantly begging your friends for help in some way or another. Now imagine that our MMOs start to do the same thing. Some game, quality though it may be gains revenue through ads or some sort of purchasable content. In order to then obtain revenue, it needs a high number of players signed up for its game. Next thing you know, all of your friends that have your e-mail address or your Facebook account are spamming you to help them collect the 1,000 rat tails needed to offer the Priestess of Nothingville and make their way to level 10. At which point they’ll need your assistant to harness, shoe, and de-louse a horse to use for their mount. Do you see what I’m getting at? I know it’s a long shot, but it could happen. Let’s be thankful it hasn’t.

I honestly couldnt make this stuff up.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

I feel bad for the suckers out there who fall for this.  You're basically being paid a negligible amount for free advertising to people who you obviously have something incommon with.  THUS, you are giving them practically FREE advertising amongst your friends/family (most of whom are PROBABLY in MO's target demographic).  Do what giant advertising companies do for thousands of dollars... for a pittance.  No thanks.  Moving on.

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

Yes, and how is that not a good idea?

I still love the inovative thinking done by Star Vault! And it is not that you go hunt down 750 to friend up with. You get discount even though you have less friends. So what is all the buzz about?

It is a discount for the players who want to take advantage of it, no one is forcing you!

Newsflash: this "innovative" thinking is used by every single facebook game with different varriations, and is the reason many hates them (the spam). Not to mention many others games "like us on FB and unlock stuff".

Doesn't seem to be changing much to SV's stock...Still at a 0,38 SEK all time low.

This project was completely unrealistic from the start and you're delusional if you think they have a chance of turning this thing into something to make profit from.

  • HipsterHipster Member Posts: 69

Raff, allow me to help you out....

SV bringing out a program to lower peoples sub price for advertising for them:

    1) Didnt even take effect yet. They just announced it.

    2) New subscribers will be realized during the quarter that new income/sales happen.

    3) The end of the quarter results are announced and then stock prices will react to the financials SV puts out.

So... SV has a long time before you can attribute any movement, if any at all, in the stock price to the above facebook campaign.

And another thing... I realize your a hater but you have to also know this: Most of the subscribers, and Starvault know where the game is and know where it needs to go if its going to survive. They also know that finally SV is working on some content after finally fixing their network solution. In addition, Im not sure why people have to hate on indie game developers who are taking a chance so there arent ONLY WORLD OF WARCRAFTS and RIFTS out there. Why are you hating?

  • raff01raff01 Member Posts: 453

Yet again the WOW, dichotomy, there are plenty of MMO, MO failing doesn't mean WoW and RIFT are our only options.

Creating something new and different doesn't mean you have to handle things like SV does. So far to me, MO is just a poor man's version of DarkFall, just inferior graphics, design, world, PvE and features.

MO so far stil looks like a medieval online deathmatch, not a sandbox game as I comprehend it.

Yes it does seem that they have taken a few steps in the right direction but its so small and shallow and mostly too late.

They have wasted months on trying to make or fix stuff that wasn't useful. This time should have been spent designing the game better.
